One billion out of 30 billion is small potatoes, but I bet it hurt just the same

I'm fairly certain that the election results hurt a lot more than the $1 billion loss. Isn't that amount just a side/vanity bet for him?

It's all on paper anyway. Not a real loss unless you trade it in.

It's all on paper anyway. Not a real loss unless you trade it in. Evidently George was trading. The article said he pulled out of some of his losing trades he had set up. The fund did make five percent profitability for the year even with the loss From the article: Last year, Mr. Soros returned to trading at Soros Fund Management LLC, which manages about $30 billion for Mr. Soros and his family. Mr. Soros was lured back by the opportunities to profit from what he saw as coming economic troubles. Mr. Soros was cautious about the market going into November and became more bearish immediately after Mr. Trump’s election, according to people close to the matter. The stance proved a mistake—the stock market has rallied on expectations that Mr. Trump’s policies will boost corporate earnings and the overall economy. As a result, some of Mr. Soros’ trading positions incurred losses approaching $1 billion, the people say. Mr. Soros adjusted his positions and exited many of his bearish bets late last year, avoiding further losses, the people added.

I don't manage anyone elses money like he does. I also don't react to market changes. I usually stay the course. I've done well but have been shown I could have done better. Got more then we need so I'm not concerned. Not bad investing for an retired Electrical Engineer with no financial training. 3-2-1 sorry to disappoint you.

I wish I had actual money in the markets and not my "fantasy play fund" that I keep on a spreadsheet...
This would have been another good time to be "real money" trading.
