Jaguar - 30/9/2017 - $1,760 - ( NEW GOAL - $7,000 ) = I'm focused now on getting to at least $1,000 in my Moving Fund Account as a Christmas gift to myself. I'm very focused on getting there. Well my savings towards the Moving Fund, is losing $200. I brought my first down winter coat in 17 years. I hit a 40% off sale at Land's End.

The roommate situation is, pretty much, done. The recap. I'm trying to get back to my normal self. I received my first paycheck from the tutoring gig and a refund from the initial payment of my dental insurance. Just waiting for the deposit to clear before I decide what to do with the extra $50. My hours are back on at WHBM so I'll be working at the mall every Sunday. Paid for my next flight to Florida (next month) and will clear the CC use on the 1st. I use the CC to pay for big-ticket items, transfer the cash rewards to my Vehicle Savings, and pay off the CC each chance I get. It's like free money, now that I'm not accruing monthly interest.

I’ve got one more big money suck on this house. The landscaping but then I’m done for several months. I want if possible to put a stackable washer and dryer in my kitchen. I have a blank wall and I’d add a pantry at the same time. Then the washer and dryer are out of my garage. I need the cabinet fronts refaced. I looked at a stackable at Lowe’s it’s aroubd a grand. But I’d need to run water,a drain, and a vent. I’m not sure it’s doable. That’s got to be next year regardless because I need to recover from this years incredible spend on this house. My handyman still has some stuff to do but between having to put in a new fence and repair my car, both of which were unexpected, ouch. Him I can cash flow thankfully because he doesn’t charge an arm and a leg. But I won’t be saving any money for the next few months I’m afraid. 🙁

Hey forwardwego - just remember - there is no fault for going backward. Kinda like a 2 step dance. 2 steps forward and 1 step back but it still comes right in the end. Hugs to you and yours.

megaptera C'mon in, the water's fine. There are 11 weeks left of 2017. How about a 2017 mini goal to get you warmed up for 2018?? forwardwego Thanks for the shoutout! I'd love to start saving yesterday, but unfortunately stuff keeps coming up. DS2 and DD just started orthodontic treatment that we're paying monthly payments towards (interest-free). The car recently needed a thousand bucks worth of work. Lawn mower is doomed. Etc. Still continuing to max out retirement, and I'm determined to set up additional goals in the new year, even if it's only for a little amount each month.

Tobinikui: $17,460.25 on 10/23/2017 (Goal: $23,210.00)
My head is in a bit of a better place this week, than it was with my last post. Life has definitely thrown us some challenges over the last couple of years, but we are working through them. We made the conscious decision to put both kids in daycare/preschool. DS goes 3 days a week, DD goes once a week right now, but it will bump up to 2 days a week in November. That is a huge financial undertaking, but it will be worth it in the long run.
Our bills will go up, for sure, but conversely, it is making me that much more aware of our expenses. Thanks to 3 paychecks in November, I might just be able to pay back the money I switched around! I have a plan to beef up our emergency fund too. I may still not reach the goal amount by the end of the year, but we'll be a lot closer than we are now!
Even if it's 0.25 % of a step forward, that's still progress. Ha!

shanendoah: 10/25/2017 $860 (Goal: $960)
That $400 starting in November might not go to savings. We have some last legal fees that have to be paid in cash, instead of me being able to put them on a 0% credit card. So legal fees instead of savings, but hey, at least I won't be increasing our debt.

It's been 17 years since I built, but I remember more like 4K for the furnace.

Hi Savers,
It's the end of the month again!
Smilies will be done this Friday night, November 3. That gives everyone a few extra days to post their updates.
Happy Halloween!

Slow, but steady upward movement. I had to hit my house maintenance fund again, and will probably need to do it again this month due to a leaking shower... that's what it's there for, though, so I'm just rolling with it. Small vacations got topped up because I am going on a trip this weekend to the Smokies! I will likely raid it again in December for a quick weekend getaway, too. I did finally hear about my performance review, and it'll go into effect Jan. 1, so I am trying to take my time and plan where I'd like my money to go. I think that I want to start contributing more to my retirement accounts, but I need to see exactly how much more I want to contribute.

This year has been a Financial Hunger Games. I had some hiccups, I spent: $1000 washing machine, $850 Bricks pointed, $1,000 deductible for fender bender, and now I have to replace my garage door $850.00 Thank Goodness for my Repairs/Renovation fund.

October was ROUGH. I overspent by $600 (kids activities I wasn't expecting) and am starting out November behind. Next year I am limiting these savings goals to actual savings and not sinking funds I'm constantly spending because it's throwing my numbers way off! With only one more month left, I'm not going to make all these goals. Getting a little worried about Christmas. Fund | 2017 Goal

Baby steps, right? I only advanced a little this month, as I decided to make my numbers reflect what I actually have in the bank, as compared to what I had saved at one point, but then used for some other purpose. Ha. I over estimate what we need in the Tax fund by a good amount, so even if I don't hit the goal, we'll still have enough to pay our bill when it comes. I had planned on paying back what I used out of the Christmas fund, but now I am thinking that maybe we'll just dial things back a bit. We are maneuvering through all sorts of things as a family right now, so we have plenty of reason to pull back a bit. (Not to mention, cash does NOT equal a gift in my book.) I have come up with a plan to get our ER fund back up to $5k, which is kindof the bare minimum in ny book. It will take until early March, but at least I have a plan! I am going to actually write out a list of all the people we plan on giving gifts to, and assigning dollar amounts to stay within budget this year. DH always blows through the dollar limit I tell him for me every year - thus year, I may just give him cash to spend on me for gifts, rather than a limit on the credit card that he'll never stick to! We need to be better about our budget - both creating one, and sticking to it. Upping the daycare for the kids will keep us pretty pinched, unfortunately. I know what I/we need to do. We just need to make it happen now!

Snapdragon 11/01/17 --- $ 9014.27 / $ 10,000 -- update
Car/House $ 1972.84 / $1500 Savings $ 3756.40 / $4000 Travel $ 3285.03 / $4500 New Totals $ 9014.27 / $10,000 My totals did not go up much this month. I needed to pay for having my car fixed ($500 deductible and $162 rental) so not much moved. Slow progress all around. I got the bill from the State of OR on mom's medical and they are asking for $$$$ - Her estate is really low so I am letting the lawyer deal with it.

Whew. All I can say for 2017 is Thank GOD for the emergency fund. I posted about accidentally backing my SUV into my sister's SUV a month or so ago. $1500+ in damages. We had to pay $500 for the deductible, so out of the E.F. it came. I would much rather pay that $500 then the $2200 it ended up costing when all was said and done (plus my sister's $1000 worth of damage). H should receive his end of the year bonus in the next month or so, so I am crossing everything that it's a REALLY good one (It was $6000 before taxes last year). We need to beef that fund back up ASAP.

This has been such a wild year that I didn't stick with goals, and try to keep up with all of you. There used to be another man who posted on here too but I have forgotten his nick. Between Harvey, surgeries, illness, and such, I have saved some but nowhere near what I wanted. A new year is coming, and we shall try again. Woot Woot

He still posts from time to time.

It wasn't TheHaitian. I think it might have been the Swordguy.

Got back from my trip to the Midwest trip last night. Hadn't taken my laptop with me so the only movement that my money saw was the automated payment of my bills. Today, back home, was a different story. I transferred money into my Roth and opened two new savings accounts at USAA for my other savings goals. My current savings account is a holding bucket for money that belongs to my mom and it was getting difficult to remember how much in the account was allocated to my two LTC insurance savings goals. So, now, I have a savings account for LTC and another for a new-to-me vehicle and the original account will get no deposits from here on out. My Jeep needs a few repairs so I'll use the credit card to pay for that (and net the points for $$ spent) and then pay it off in full. I used the CC on my trip just to have that extra financial protection as I made my way to and from Iowa. I went $300 over my budgeted $500 but I'm okay with that. I'll still be able to pay off the CC in full. In summary, my goal amounts are such: Roth 2017 $1000 (of $5500) LTC 2018 $1000 (of $2800) Larger EF $5000 (goal is complete! ) Vehicle $100 (of $20,000) Total $7100 (out of $33,300) I've a few things to pay for in these last couple months of 2017 so I think I'll hold off on contributing anything further to the Roth for this year. I'll just start fresh, in January for the 2018 Roth. But, here's where I stand (now that it's more than in July ) Roth 2017 $1000 (18% of $5500) LTC 2018 $2800 (100%) Larger EF $5002 (100%) Vehicle $225 (1% of $20,000) Total $9005 (out of $33,300 so 27%)
