I am figuring up all our tax, registration, and insurance payments for personal and business. We moved more items into the LLC so had to change the insurance.
Personal registrations
2 boats, 2 trailers motorhome small trailer Lincoln truck 2006 Cadillac 2013
$793.40
Insurance for all vehicles above $1258 Personal Liability 362 $1,000,000 on top of other House Ins 825 includes house
Total for all $3,238.40 for the year due in March, April, and May
I don't think I can get it lower and we have good coverages.
Then for business
Insurance for 5 houses, 1 mobile $1759.00 Includes mine subsidence and general liability of $2,000,000
Registration of vehicles $473.69 Some higher because I transferred them to business this year
Insurance for vehicles $648, but think it will be $948, have a letter but not positive yet.
Includes truck Int 7000 98 Dodge Ram 2500 box trailer for tools Big Tex 16 ft tandem trailer
So right now $2,880.69 likely plus $300
Due March and May
So $6,119.09 owed over 3 months
Property taxes at our house on $300,000 is $2000 On all the rentals here $2,500, 2 will raise next year.
So about $11,000 for everything up here.
I think I have everything low as I can get it, does not include Texas but we have a realtor and that house will be on the market in the next 2 weeks, nothing due there till October and December would be $5700, but plan on it being gone. We hope to get a min of $100k from it, of course, hope for more, but to be seen. We are selling as is.
Property taxes on another lot in Texas about $600, hopefully it will be sold too.
I am getting a handle on expenses finally. 2 more houses here to get on the rental market, hubby making very good progress on his mom's house so I would say another month or so. He is even hiring someone to clean for make ready so I don't have to, finally! That will bump up revenue about $700 a month. The other one will rent for about $600 when it is done.
And we are getting a tax refund, looks like I did not owe estimated last year so good there, have to pay this year though.

Yesterday was a CSD due to counseling and copay. This morning, I've skipped Starbucks to make up for the fact that I have plans to go to Starbucks tomorrow morning.

I'm curious about your Starbucks trips. There's a lot of them. Do you like them that much or is it just convenient, as in on your way and you're in a hurry?

The weekend pretty much went according to plan. On Friday, we hit CostCo. On Saturday, I had coffee with a friend ($10), went and saw 7 open houses (free), went to the movies (gift card, free popcorn, total cost <$4), and then new roommie E took us out to dinner (free). So a CSD, but spent less than $15. On Sunday I had my writers' group meeting and got breakfast there. I also did some quick grocery shopping (we were out of bread) and got gas. So all controlled/planned. However, if I am going to meet my goal of 9 NSDs this month, I am going to have to find a way to have 3 NSDs each week over the next two weeks. Time to look at the plan.

The plan for this week Monday: SB Only. I will be attending a happy hour for a faculty candidate this afternoon, but everything there should be covered by the department. Tuesday: NSD Wednesday: SB Only Thursday: NSD Friday: SB, maybe grocery shopping. Saturday: movie with Pop Tart, probably grocery shopping Sunday: As long as grocery shopping has already gotten done, NSD.

zibazinski - I live in Seattle. Starbucks is a way of life The big thing is that they are hugely convenient. There's a Starbucks on campus between my bus stop and my office. They also make really good places to meet people. It's pretty much guaranteed there will be one near where you want to be; everyone knows what they want, and the quality is consistent. I had been going to SB every morning, getting my chai and a fruit bar or some other kind of snack. I've cut myself down to 2-3 days a week, and only the chai (at least on work days). In the winter, that kick of caffeine really matters. Now that it is light out when I get to work in the morning (7am), I think that starting next month, I am going to try and cut down to a grande from a venti (16oz instead of 20oz). And at 16oz, I can probably bring my own mug (there really aren't any reusable containers for HOT 20oz drinks) and get the cost down a little bit more.

April Update: 15 NSDs and 2 CSD
I know that today will be a spend day as I am meeting for lunch and some shopping. Think that most of this week may end up that way as well. I have a few days off so I have time to do things that I normally don't have time for.

NSD yesterday! But also some changes to the plan. Our washing machine died over the weekend. C and roomie E are taking roomie D's truck up to the Re-Store today to look at a washer there. So it's possible we'll have that when I get home tonight. I'll call it a controlled spend because having a working washer is a need, and we have savings to cover this. Also, looks like I'm going to add a second movie to Saturday, and go see Beauty and the Beast with BFF and her wife.

CSD yesterday. I had SB in the morning, and C spent a little over $90 (once tax was included) on buying a new to us washer. And I was able to do laundry last night, so that's a win. Today is likely to end up a spend. We sign the papers for our re-fi at 11a, so the possibility of C and I going out to lunch afterwards is pretty high. Otherwise, I'll be grabbing lunch on campus today, which would put today at a CSD. I've decided I am going to aim for tomorrow to be an NSD. I am volunteering for an event on campus tomorrow, so they will feed me pizza for lunch. If I skip Starbucks in the morning and put grocery shopping off until Saturday, I can get an NSD. So I'm going to try. We'll see how I feel about no SB tomorrow morning.

Yesterday just became a spend day. In addition to getting lunch with C after the escrow appointment, I bought fish oil for the dogs (via amazon), ordered new checks (via CostCo), and got myself ice cream on campus. The fish oil and the checks are actually needs (and we're really low on the fish oil, so waiting until "grocery day" tomorrow to order it didn't seem like the best plan). The ice cream was just cause I wanted it, but since I'm not getting lunch on campus this week, it at least came out of my on campus spending money. Aiming for today to be a No Spend. I got to campus early, before the Starbucks opened. I'm volunteering for a big event on campus today, and they'll be giving me pizza for lunch. This evening, I'm going to be helping BFF's wife write a cover letter.

April Update: 17 NSDs and 3 CSD
This week has been one with more spend days than no spend days. Got quite a few things that I needed and a few things to update the wardrobe. I return to my normal schedule tomorrow so I think that my spending pattern will also return to normal.

Skipped Starbucks on Friday morning and managed to make it a No Spend Day. Saturday went pretty much as planned - movie with Pop Tart, grocery shopping (got lots of free items, thanks to the Safeway Monopoly game - items we wouldn't otherwise get, but free means why not), then movie with BFFs. We did go out to dinner before the evening movie, and that would have made Saturday a spend, but roomie E paid for dinner. Oh, and also, saved $10 on the movie tickets on Saturday, also thanks the the Safeway Monopoly game. Sunday I only left the house to take a short walk. No Spending at all. And this morning, the Starbucks on campus was having problems with their register, so they weren't open, and I did not get a Starbucks.

The plan for this week Monday: NSD Tuesday: NSD? We have court in the afternoon, which is stressful, so there might be a spend here, but goal will be No Spend. Wednesday: Starbucks, Farewell lunch for peer who is retiring after 37 years Thursday: Starbucks, counseling Friday: CostCo, grocery shopping Saturday: NSD - Saturdays are hard days to get an NSD for me, but if we get CostCo and grocery shopping done on Friday, than it should be possible. Sunday: Starbucks, lunch(?) - pre-conference workshop at a professional conference from 9-12. But the conference is here in town, so no per diem for me.

As I suspected might happen, yesterday ended up a spend day. We had court in the afternoon, and hadn't made any real dinner plans, so we ended up getting Papa Murphys for dinner. It was, at least, $10 Tuesday, but a spend none the less. This does mean that I'm not reaching my goal of 9 No Spend days this month.

I am just trying to reduce impulse spending, that is one of my worst habits so working on that. I don't really go someplace everyday as we are retired, so that and buying things off the computer are my vices.

Like MPL, I love YNAB. No spend days have never worked for me.....as long as I'm under the budgeted amount for each category during the month I'm a happy camper.
In the month of April the budgeted amount for fuel was $100 and I spent $60. Food budget was set @ $200 and I spent $148. Eating out budget was $100 and I spent $ 86. Some categories had no spending posted in them and buying some new clothes was way over. However, since overall I was under totals for the month, I still managed to transfer $500 to savings.

Thursday was a controlled spend with counseling and getting myself lunch. Friday we got CostCo shopping done, but today ended up as a spend, as we had a few other errands to run and decided to go out to lunch. Tomorrow my convention starts. That does mean I haven't really thought about a plan for spending for next week. Breakfast and lunch will be covered. At least one night, I will probably go out to dinner as networking with other people at the conference. But I haven't thought much beyond that. I probably won't really be around again until Wednesday afternoon.

Final April Numbers Sunday I got a Starbucks. I also ran to the store for last minute onion and bacon to make the last minute starch requested by our Sunday family dinner hostess. But since grocery shopping is allowed on weekends, it's a Controlled Spend.
I did not meet my No Spend Goal for April. I'm bummed, but also, goals shouldn't necessarily be easy to attain, so I am okay with it. Late March and April were very difficult on the home front, so I'm just gonna roll. And see what I can figure out for May.

Blonde Granny - I think one of the main points of this thread is that different things work for different people. Back in earlier days when it was a more active thread, there were people who only counted "spends" once they went over that monthly budget. For many people, No Spend Days aren't a good metric. And on some level, they aren't even the best metric for me, as I know, that I will often just decide to squeeze a whole bunch of planned/needed shopping into one day (instead of spreading it out) in order to increase chances of a No Spend Day. Or if a day has already ended up being a spend, then hey, it matters less if I make another unplanned purchase... BUT, I also know that one of my weaknesses is the vending machine. And No Spend Days are actually the best method I have come up with for combating the vending machine/random snack food purchasing tendencies I have, so I track them. The important thing is, though, that we all do what works for us, and do our best in supporting others in doing what works for them.

May Thoughts and Goals I am leaving my Spend and No Spend goals the same for May as they were for April. The big thing this means is that I need to really PLAN my spending for May and stick to it, as that spend day goal is 5 or less, and the first 3 days of May were all spend days (*headdesk*). I did not reach my goal of 9 No Spend days in April, so I am going to try again for May. May is messy because of Mothers' Day, I'm taking some vacation time, and there's the holiday right at the end. But, if I am mindful, and really do my planning, I think I can make this happen.
As a housekeeping note, I've switched my weeks from Sun-Sat to Mon-Sun, since that's how my planning has been being done.

Starbucks: 0 (goal <10)
The plan for this week Monday: NSD fail - I was sick and ended up buying hand sanitizer and extra cough drops on the way to the conference Tuesday: NSD fail - by mid-afternoon, I desperately needed a coke. Conference wasn't providing soda. I did leave the conference hotel and walk over to the drug store, therefore only paying $2.30 for my coke instead of $4.50 in the hotel gift shop. So that's a win. Wednesday: NSD fail - when E moved in, he took the room that had been my office for working at home. In order to get the one other room I could use as an office set up, I needed to get a good chair that a dog could fit in with me. I was sick this weekend, so we didn't even look. On Wednesday, we found two sectional pieces for $20 at a local thrift store and got those. Thursday: NSD Friday: Starbucks Saturday: Grocery shopping, movie with Pop Tart Sunday: NSD General Weekend: Guardians of the Galaxy 2 comes out this weekend. It is very likely that there will be an additional movie outing with friends to go see that. So I am planning for it, I just don't know what day.

Got my NSD yesterday. I think today will be a Starbucks only day, but weekend plans are changing up a bit. I did start my new plan of getting a grande (instead of a venti) Starbucks today. However, I cannot think of it as a money saving change, as it saves all of $0.30, so $3 this month, if I pay for Starbucks 10 times. But it's more about making small changes that are good for me in general.

May Update: 6 NSDs and 1 CSD Trying to get as much done as possible. Will have to get gas and a few perishable items this week but I don't foresee much else this coming week.

One week in, and I've already used all the 'spend days' I allotted myself this month. This is likely not going to be a "good" month. It's going to be a stressful month. I am still going to try, but really, I've managed to spend outside the plan 5 of the last 7 days. Not the best start to the month. Friday was a SB only day. At least I got that. Saturday had gone completely according to plan, until about 7:30p, when I decided I wanted dessert, but not ice cream, which is what we had in the house. C went out and bought brownie mix and marshmallows. (The resulting brownies lasted less than 24 hours.) Sunday, I went back to the store for a few more garden items - namely tomato cages, one planter, and one bag potting soil. I came home with tomato cages, 3 planters, 3 bags of potting soil, an orange mint plant, 3 strawberry plants, and a water wand. But at least we had gorgeous weather, and working in my yard and on my container planting was nice.
I did get my grande (instead of venti) SB this morning.

It is nice when the week starts off as planned. Yesterday the only spending was on Starbucks. Of course, I went home about half way through my day with a migraine and then just collapsed in bed, so that kind of prevents spending. Today is planned, and currently on track, to be an NSD.
