I got 4 months of credit and debit card receipts sorted the other night. I also filled up a trash bag with assorted crap. My space is starting to look better finally.

Ready for this portion of tomorrow. Staff Welcome Back breakfast starts tomorrow morning at 7:45. The wildfires are becoming stressful. The largest wildfire in the nation is just 50 miles south of us. I'm sad for those who live there. Another one started yesterday about 40 miles east of us.

SO close to being done with my goal of 260 burp rags for charity! Pretty sure I've finished all the fabric I have on hand and there are 58 in the bag to deliver tomorrow.
I did get some good coupons at the store yesterday so I might go buy the last 4 yards of fabric I'll need to finish up.
In other news, I started working on packing and have 2 boxes full of books done. It's slow going because I'm writing down all the titles before I tape up the box since I am TERRIBLE about buying multiple copies of books since losing my list earlier this year.
Hoping to get 2 more boxes done before the weekend is done and make space to start moving boxes into the attic crawl space. I've decided if I can get up there and store at least 100 boxes then it'll feel like I'm making progress on moving even if I haven't found a new home yet.

dee27 I think Chloe is teaching again this year. Knee Deep in Water Chloe you've done an AMAZING job on all those gifts! Laundry is all done, off to bed. Again, HUGE difference between this rental and having to bring our own sheets and towels, especially since there were 7 of us this trip including Baby. The house was lovely ... having an outhouse, not so much. We all had to admit, nobody checked the listing to make sure the toilet was actually IN the house! None of us will EVER make that mistake again lol. I'm looking forward to visiting my ensuite bathroom tonight, just a few steps from our bedroom!

Chloe, do you have a job as a principal this year? Nope. I didn't apply anywhere nor did I accept the recall to my former position.

I've had DD/SIL's dog for the last 3 days while they were at the hospital and then adjusting with baby at home. I gladly returned her tonight. While I love the pup it is so difficult to have her for several days when I have a cat that is terrified for dogs. I end up keeping the cat locked in my bedroom during the day with food/water etc in the bathroom. Then at night I bring the dog in with me and let the cat have the rest of the house. We have so much smoke in our area this evening. I think we are drawing from the fires in central OR rather than the fires down by Knee Deep in Water Chloe. The sun was absolutely blood red when I was driving home this evening.

Finished the vanity for the guest room. That one was easy unlike mine. It has a broken mirror so I emailed the company. Hopefully they'll just send another while I send this one back. Mine isn't right but it's good enough I'm going to tackle putting up the full length mirrors next. One for my room and one for the guest room. It's raining so I hope my handyman will come since he can't paint! Also organized my travel makeup and toiletries.

As someone who grew up with grandparents, aunts and uncles all having only outhouses, I share your pain. Family dinners at my maternal grandparents were something else. Probably 60 people, all using a 2 seater. At Christmas, it would be snowing.

We just talked with ODS, Houston area is a mess. He said all of the airports and schools are closed; many major/secondary roads are closed, too. He lives outside of Houston and the road to the grocery store is open, but roads outside of that area are flooded. Grocery stores have limited food products since there was a run to stock up before Harvey hit.
He is still sick and restricted from going into work, but with the condition of the roads, he could not drive to work. His staff has been sheltered in the medical facility since Harvey stranded them there. They are praying that the rain will stop and that there will be sunny days to dry up the area.

Hoping it stops raining soon in Houston.
I remember snowstorms in Colorado when the grocery supply trucks couldn't get in to restock. After the year I lived in the mountains and got stranded more than once by snowstorms, I kept lots of food around in winter.

I hope your son stays safe Dee.
Yesterday I filled the fridge and went to visit A. We both have crazy busy schedules this year so I'm not going to see much of her once school starts.
The second drain/excavation company is coming any minute. It's the company A used, and the company our insurance company recommends. (We have the same bank/insurance company.)
DH ran out of ink at work so he wasn't able to mail the papers to insurance yesterday. I'll mail them today.
I have to take my car back in this morning. I hate being without a car. I'm getting my hair cut and colored, happily that's literally around the corner. DH worked all night so hopefully he'll be home today which means he can take me to pick up the car later (on the motorcycle).
ETA: The contractor who came today told us not to send the letter to insurance yet ... he offered to email us some key phrases within 24h to increase the chances of being covered. Turns out we had already met at A's house, so when he walked in, he said, oh it's you! We both really liked him. Waiting impatiently for his estimate (for end of next week).

dee27 -- Wishing the best for your loved ones. debthaven -- Promising info about the contractor's suggestions about key terms to use. Knee Deep in Water Chloe -- Hope your first week back is going well. I have not left the house this week. We have been having heavy rains all week and the phone alerts have been going off all morning indicating flash flooding in the area. It was not unexpected as we are still getting the outer feeder bands from Harvey. Expecting up to 8 inches by tomorrow. Doing indoor chores that I can get done. All errands are out until weather clears as I an not taking chances being on the roads. Wishing all a good day.

Sharon , congratulations! debthaven , I am so glad the insurance company is reconsidering. Stories like that give me hope about my career choice. I took an unplanned, mental health day off yesterday and got a lot done around the house. I wrapped up the 7 loads of laundry I did over the weekend, washed a ton of dishes, cleaned the cast iron skillet, tossed the grease container after I realized it has a pinhole in the bottom of it and was leaking all over the stove, wiped down that mess, made a new chicken Alfredo recipe in the Crock Pot, baked low carb chocolate zucchini muffins, made chocolate covered bacon for after supper, lugged my suitcase up the stairs, tossed the duffel bag with a torn pocket I've had since middle school (I thought I tossed it a few years ago?), swept the main floor, unpacked the rest of my jewelry, and took a short nap. My grandma's kidneys are failing so my dad, sis and I are traveling to see her one last time later on this week. I am sad, and feel helpless. When I feel this way, I tend to focus on things I can control.

Yesterday I got 60 more burp rags dropped off which brings me close to my goal (and I'm waiting to find out how many babies are expected before making more).
It's ridiculously hot here all week so I'm trying to take it slow, not get overheated and relax because when it's 110* I don't want to do anything!
My revised goal by Friday is to make the house presentable for company, even if no one is coming over. You know, deal with the laundry and empty the trash and the shitepile of papers...

55e later, the car is finally really repaired. I'm 100% sure they messed up with the 365e of work that was done on Fri and Mon. They didn't admit it but they didn't charge me for labor today. (Not saying they are dishonest, I think they just got it wrong, because the 365e of work they did before we left for the beach did NOTHING to solve the problem). The car is eight years old. We always plan to make it to 10 years but somehow we never manage. Hoping it will hold up for another couple of years. I'm sure the fact that we only have one car doesn't help.

Thank you so much, ladies. I am thankful we get to see her now, instead of after. Added because it's relevant to this thread: I am glad I didn't "declutter" the letters she wrote to me years ago. I'm going to bring them with me to read them to her.

Grandma's are important. Give your grandma hugs and kisses, Iggy.
I watched my niece and nephews do that with my mom. My niece made sure the great grandchildren did the same before their dad took them home the night she passed. Watching the great grandchildren doing that, knowing it was the last time, had us all in tears when they were out the door.

Youngest was 5 and really didn't understand. She was full of questions all through the funeral and burial. I cannot imagine. "They" decided to have an open casket for my grandpa when he passed a few years ago. It was my first, and last, I'll ever attend. The image of him laying there will be forever etched in my mind. The worst part was seeing my cousin's children upset and crying. Why put young people through that I'll never know. On a positive note, my grandma is very Catholic, so she's not worried about leaving this earth whatsoever.
