Trump wants to be Putin when he "grows up". (Not happening...)

I cannot believe how many posters do not want better relations with Russia. You all sound like old Republicans from years ago!

I cannot believe how many posters do not want better relations with Russia. ... I am reserving judgement until we are able to assess the cost/benefits of a "better" relationship.

Well, it certainly is in our interest to find common ground. None of us want to see Russia invading eastern Europe and the start of WWIII. Remember just a few years ago we were worried about China and what could happen there. Now it seems to be Europe and Russiawe have to worry about

I cannot believe how many posters do not want better relations with Russia. You all sound like old Republicans from years ago! And I can't believe how many in the current republican party are willing to throw their ideology and their country under the bus to follow their Leader's affinity for a brutal and thuggish warlord. And I cannot believe how President Obama, Hillary Clinton, and John Kerry have allowed Putin to run rough shod the last six years without facing him down. You get what you reap. Now Trump has to straighten the mess out.

We'll see about Trump VB. My suspicion at this point is that he will ignore Russia's transgressions, and try to find ways that EOM and others can exploit energy opportunities with Russia. I am not a fan of any of us playing world police, btw. I would have been happier had Obama really disengaged (other than with Daesh- a real threat in a shit storm that we started), but he was a disappointment to me in that respect. President Obama looked like he was caught flat footed when Putin went into Syria and started bombing. Seems he "froze" and Putin caught him pondering "what to do" and emboldened Putin even more.

IMO President Obama mis-handled Syria the whole way. His red line warning comes to mind. But again, other than Daesh, I don't believe our interests or business belong there. If Russia wants to get bloody there, so what? Isn't that is what the Donald said, more or less? Other than when he said he would turn Daesh into a parking lot of scorched sand, more or less?

I am really going to try and fulfill my promise I made last night for not going "negative" the next couple of days, so forgive me if I do not answer and get drawn down the black hole. I will try to carry on simple none flagrant conversations the next two days, but there simply are not enough Unicorn and daisy threads for me to stay occupied, so I have to kindly respond to posts the next two days December 26th will be here soon enough! (I will say, I do not believe Trump will scorch any country on his term. I did use the in my response)

It is hard enough without any encouragement!

Trump plays checkers. Putin is a chess master. Please remember decades ago when our Chess champion, Bobby Fischer (sp?) beat their Chess champion. It was not supposed to happen.

Yes, and if you go back (I don't expect you to- you can take my word for it) I wrote at the time that I agreed with the Donald on that- Let the Russians have at it! Regarding what Trump said about Daesh- it was juvenile and uninformed, like much of his foreign policy rhetoric. Yes, we the civilized world must oppose Daesh. Nuclear fire bursts over the Arabian desert however are not what is called for..... I agree, but do you remember after 9-11? There were a lot of people that felt it should become a glass covered desert

I remember being grateful (and proud) that Bush did not resort to that. I remember feeling that he might be an OK president after all. I have no confidence in a PE who is a loose canon.

'Don't doubt me. EVER' continues to call for the glassification of the Middle East. Never uses a smily when he posts his position.

... I have no confidence in a PE who is a loose canon. His behavior certainly leads one to perceive him as that. Someone suggested there was a method to his madness. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

I had to do some internal soul searching to not feel that way myself at the time. i believe that well enough, based on some of your posts, just in the time I have been here.

i believe that well enough, based on some of your posts, just in the time I have been here. I don't think it is shameful to have vengeful thoughts when something terrible has occurred. I think it is important to try to control and channel that. that's easier to say when you live in a culture that celebrates vengeance as some kind of holy virtue. we are perfect fodder for radical Islam.
