Premarin is a hormone cream to replace the effects of a loss of estrogen in menopausal women. It can produce serious side effects. www.premarin.com/Do not use estrogens with or without progestins to prevent heart disease, heart attacks, strokes or dementia (decline in brain function). Using estrogen-alone may increase your chances of getting strokes or blood clots. Using estrogens with progestins may increase your chances of getting heart attacks, strokes, breast cancer, or blood clots. Using estrogens, with or without progestins, may increase your chance of getting dementia, based on a study of women 65 years of age or older. In that case the saloon seems to be my pre-ordained makeover place. Anyone want to join me?

I am not judging what others do or don't and all these studies are a toss up. They just had a new one debunking a lot of that. So far I have none of it and have taken it for 25 years or more I think. But I'm not recommending it for others.

Do it one piece at a time - new hair from a salon, new makeup routine through a professional, and clothes by asking for help at decent stores (the White House Black Market and Ann Taylor near me both have super helpful associates).
Finding each piece of your new look one at a time will help you own it better, and you can work into it. It also helps to have different input from different people. You will get ideas that you can think about and work with. The wardrobe is the hardest. If yours is bad, it may take years to get it all replaced and for you to find a look that works for you.

Yeah, i'm not sure where you'd go for a full-service makeover. Makeup - book a makeover appointment at sephora. Hair - go to the nicest salon you can find and just tell them to have at it. Clothes - nordstrom has free personal shoppers. Are you still plus sized? If so I highly recommend Gwynnie Bee. You sign up and get X number of clothes at a time with unlimited trade ins. I get 3 items at home at a time and get new clothes at least once a week for $75/month. For the price of one dress i get probably 6+ outfits. It's been great both to try new things and also refine what i think looks good on me. If you really love something you buy it for a discount, otherwise just wear as much as you want and return. I'm in the smallest size now and if I lose any more weight i won't be able to use the service any more which will make me sad. I think Le Tote has a similar service. I've signed up and looked at their items before, but never followed through and started the subscription service. I think you get 3 clothing items and 2 accessories items at a time, and you can keep them as long as you want, send them back and get new items as frequently as you want, or send back what you don't want and buy what you want to keep at a discounted rate. I just started Le Tote. I've been on WW since last fall and suddenly realized as I pulled out my "go to" work wardrobe for the three days I'm in the office that my favorites are too big. I have other pieces that I can use to make do, but I really need something more flattering. I'm focusing on non-dressy clothes right now because I don't know what will look good the next time I have to wear something dressy. I went to a wedding recently and the matron of honor wore an amazing dress from Rent the Runway: renttherunway.com That woman (matron of honor) lives in a big city and needs a more impressive/up-to-the-minute wardrobe than I do. Le Tote seems good for me. I also notice that having two accessory pieces with each shipment forces me to "up my game" and add a little pizazz to my look. I already have an arsenal of neutral color purses that I'm comfortable with, so it's primarily jewelry I'm looking for in the accessories. I switch out the purses every month or two and don't bother changing them out to match the outfit of the day.

Since I started that thread I found a good hairdresser. She has been cutting my hair in a way that compliments my hair texture. She takes directions from me but also does her own spin. For instance, I said I didn't want long hair anymore and we discussed a bob. She did a bob but added layers that go well with my curly hair. As for hair color, my hair is black, so in order to change color I would have to bleach. Of course my hairdresser won't bleach, it would be a disaster. I have two white hairs. The hairdresser said once I get more white hairs, we'll do highlights for a while and then full color once most of my hair is white.
It looks like I'll have black hair for a long time. I'm mid forties and my two white hairs have been there forever, but that's it. The rest of my hair is stubbornly black. On one hand, I love it because I save time and money I would have to invest on hair color. On the other hand, black hair doesn't look good as we get older and I would really like something lighter at this point, like a light ash brown. For make up I watched a ton of youtube videos and I am able to do it. I am sure it doesn't look like a professional but it looks good. I learned to highlight and contour, how to apply the makeup, what eye shadow colors look good on me, etc. I can tell people notice the difference. I feel more confident when I take the time to do my makeup.
Clothes are a work in progress. I am able to find nice clothes at Burlington. You have to take your time and dig deep because they have a lot of crap but also good pieces at a reasonable price. The problem is that I haven't found a style yet, and also my weight fluctuates. That doesn't help. I also need to learn to accessorize.

I am sooooo jealous. I also have black hair. Or had black hair. I'm now fully salt and pepper, but I'm resisting and color regularly. I want my black hair back.

I have black hair with some white mixed in. I'm not going to dye it anymore. I'm just going to let it go salt and pepper as I get older. I didn't want to be in my 80s on day with jet black bair which is obviously fake, nor do I want to have white roots a mile long when I finally did decide to stop coloring it. Why not just wear the grey, I've earned it. Plus, I'm going to rock it.

I think white or gray hair makes a person look older. I will totally color it when the time comes. Jet black hair looks horrible in older people, so I would pick something like a light brown.

My skin is way too dark to wear light colored hair.

Oh, ok. Maybe a medium brown would work. A good hair colorist can help you determine the best color. But if you prefer to keep it natural, it's fine as long as you feel comfortable. I wouldn't be happy or comfortable with white or gray hair. I am not looking forward to the expense and the time to keep colored hair looking great though.

Well, I’m due for my color in a few days. My hair naturally now is awful looking. No way would I “rock it!” Props to those that do.

I'm at least 2/3-3/4 grey and won't be quitting colouring it any time soon. I have a few friends in my age group (I'm 44) who vow to keep their grey hairs and show pictures of them 'rocking it". That's all well and good if you can count the number of grey hairs on your head. I do wonder how many of them will stop accepting the aging process once the grey starts coming in thick and fast!

I’m mostly white now with red mixed in. I have quite a bit if red at the crown with white all around my hairline and on the front and sides. I think it makes me look older, but since I’m allergic to all hair dyes I’ll just keep going whiter and whiter. At 71 I guess it should be expected, but I really don’t like it.

My natural hair is a very dark brown....from what I can remember! I have been light brown, dark brown with highlights and low lights, auburn, caramel and everything in between. When I got my divorce 3 1/2 years ago, I gave my stylist permission to do what she thought best and surprise me (talk about trust!). I'm now a blonde! I never thought I could pull it off because I'm so very pale but I love it. Now that I look at pictures of my darker hair, I do think it aged me. Even being a blonde I'm always playing with the shades, etc. I have a bayalage and I'm taking it lighter for summer. Hair is so easy to change and it always grows back if you hate it...like the "Sun-In" incident from my teens!

I have been piecing together my own makeover since last October. I've been watching you tube videos to learn how to properly apply makeup. I'm getting better, but it's way too hot here for all that right now. I can't imagine wearing a full face of makeup when it's over 90 degrees outside. Every.darn.day.
A few months ago I signed up with StitchFix because 1. I hate shopping and 2. I've proven that left to my own devices I'll pretty much buy the same clothes in the same colors over and over with only slight variations. I've also gained a few pounds over the past year, so yeah, I was having some serious clothing issues. If one of my friends would let me pay them to shop for clothes for me, I'd do it. That's how much I hate shopping.
My hair, I stopped relaxing it last October. It's been, well, interesting. I had no idea what my natural hair was like, I've had relaxers since I was a child, and the minute my natural hair started making its presence known, I slapped relaxer on it. I wore hats all winter because part of my hair was kinky and part of it was bone straight. That wasn't working too well. Then it got hot, so no more hats. And I got even more frustrated, so much so that 2 months ago I came home from work and scissors jumped in my hand. 2 days later, I went and got it cut even shorter. 2 weeks later, I got it dyed a light brown, not quite blond color. My long-ish straight, dark hair is now very short on the sides and back (tapered), kinky and curly, and a light color. A very drastic change that I'm still getting use to.
Because of my hair, I feel like I have to look more pulled together now. It's a sassy style and color and it does draw attention. So I'm more mindful of how I dress, I wear more make up than just the eyeliner and lipstick I've always worn, and I keep my brows done. I even change my earrings now, lol. I hadn't bought earrings in years, I just always wore diamond studs since you couldn't see my ears anyway. All of that helps me feel like I don't look masculine with such short hair. Plus, a lot of people view kinky hair negatively, so I feel like I have to keep everything neat and looking nice so I don't have to pop anyone for saying something crazy to me.

My friend, Linda, decided to go natural and stop colouring her hair. She looks 20 years older.
