I'll be messing around with the MT forum header and footer in the evenings for a few days, experimenting with some content we could possibly put in.
Apologies if things look a bit wonky at times.

OK. For now we have a melange of Dow, spot gold, and QQQQ/AAPL/AMZN in a box. The plots are taken off of three (!) different sites, hence there's no real consistency in style. Consider it a base prototype. What we need is input on what kinds of embeddable plots people want, what sites we can get them off of, and hopefully some elegant way of laying them out. Also, it should be possible to add settings to each user's profile for what they can see. I am most desperately open to suggestions. Incidentally, the QQQQ/AAPL/AMZN would ideally be $INDU/$COMPX/$INX, but good ol' Yahoo apparently doesn't have the right to broadcast Dow/S&P quotes yet. The tickers allowed are stocks listed on the NYSE. I should also point out that this content can go at the bottom of the page too.

Virgil, I LOVE the kitco GOLD chart! Leave it there as a DAILY REMINDER for those that can not grasp what is going on. May want to run the FOREX along side it!

Thanks Virgil. That was one of the things I missed here that we had at the old MT. Being able to quickly look up stocks and seeing where the Dow is is a definite plus for this board.

If Virgil and others keep at it this is going to be one very good board. Thanks Virgil.

Virgil:
One thing missing from this format which encouraged a habit of mine - the running current report on stock market indices at the top of the Message Board pages. . . Just the numbers. . .
Is there anyway we can have that displayed in the top margins of the various threads. That is the single common interest to everyone posting here. It might serve as a reminder of why we are here and help direct focus. Might simplify the mods job?
Is a current report available only as a paid service? Or, is it available somewhere for free? First drawback. . . every source I'm aware of works on a several minute delay, usually 5 to 20 minutes. And then consulting them entails a migration back and forth. . .
What are the chances?

Older: ProBoards gives quite a bit of flexibility in terms of coding, and so "anything is possible"--including a scrolling marquee with stock quotes. The problem is getting a data source.
Rest assured that if I can find one, I'll integrate it into the board.

I'm looking at getting the scrolling ticker that O&G is interested in. I can write up a script that converts an RSS feed into a BNN-style scrolling banner, but I need to know which tickers to import. I'll be using the NASDAQ feed (see www.nasdaq.com/aspxcontent/BuildRSSUrl.aspx). What I'd like is an alphabetized list of x0 tickers (where x is 1-5) that people think should be on the list. I can't seem to find such a list on the Internet. Also, I have an option of including % change information and volume information with each ticker (along with the new value and delta for each). Is anybody interested in % change and/or volume?

I second that. Virgil you have done a fine job. Was wondering how this board plans to get more exposure and new blood in here? Are we listed in google, cause I was unable to find it.
Second, what about international exposure like European Nations, Austrailia, Iceland, South American, ect. Is there any plan to advertise or list in google search engines for other nations other than USA and Canada? Would be refreshing to get some outsiders on this board with some world insight and could greatly benifit the opinions and perspectives we all see. Many speak english overseas, in western Europe it's fairly common so I don't see this as an issue.

That's definitely something we need to do, Mid, but it falls well outside my current expertise.
Advertising costs money and takes advertising know-how. I have limited discretionary amounts of the former and none of the latter.
I have a friend in the "biz", and he might be able to advise.
But I shall point out: advertising and promotion is one area where my status as a mod makes absolutely no difference. Anyone here has exactly the same capabilities as I do.

As some of you may have noticed, I've included a scrolling stock marquee. It provided up-to-the-minute quotes off the NASDAQ RSS feed for 100 tickers. Currently, the tickers are set to the 100 highest-volume stocks as determined by trade ideas ( www.trade-ideas.com/StockInfo/high_volume.html?more=1&symbols_only=1). Obviously this will change as people make requests to add new stocks. Note that I don't want to have more than 100 (it starts to affect load times, etc.), so each new ticker will bump one of the old ones off. I'm going to be adding a memory to the close button (red 'X') momentarily. That way, the bar will stay closed until you open it again, for all pages. It's designed to be "time-referenced", meaning that the position of the quotes is always determined by the universal coordinated time (UTC). This is useful in the sense that you can jump between threads, etc. and have the banner load up (roughly) in the same position as where it left off. It freezes if you mouse over it (this is by design), and then 'hurries' to catch up to its UTC position when allowed to run again. Any comments/criticisms on the colour scheme, data format, speed, behaviour, bugs, etc. are welcome.

Virgil, you have done good job with the board. Everything is great you work doesn't go unnoticed. I really think this board has 10 times the potential of reaching more people than the old board. I'm looking forward to seeing where this all leads!!
