I suggest anyone interested in this topic pour themselves a glass of wine because it is torture.
In the beginning was the word and the word was PROOF,what does it mean to prove something and what does it mean to prove a NEGATIVE?
In science they tend to avoid proof, they deal in evidence and it is only evidence if it can be tested, the original meaning of proof was in proof testing in metallurgy, metal was tested to breaking point to prove its properties, and that is where we get the expression, " the exception proves the rule " or in reality " the exception tests the rule "
So empirical science cannot test the evidence of GOD because there is nothing to test, as Karl Popper stated in his philosophy of science, if everything in existence is evidence of GOD then there is no exception to prove the rule, basically the hypothesis is empty of any testable content, science doesn't really engage in proving non-existence only existence.
There are logical and mathematical proofs but since it took a volume larger than the Bible to prove 1 plus 1 equals two then i think we should avoid absolute proofs.
In Law to prove something is the responsibility of the positive claimant,nobody expects the defendant to prove they did not do it(the negative).
This leaves us with the common every day usage of proof, and that is based on rationality, what is the evidence or reason for and against a particular belief.
Saying one cannot prove GOD does not exist is like saying one cannot prove anything undetectable does not exist,basically an intellectual KOP out that hides behind epistemology, the problem is no one can know anything does not exist, it is David Hume's caveat against certainty. We cannot know nor prove the sun rises tomorrow but it is more likely than knowing if my cat speaks French or not.
So to prove something in rational parlance is about what is more probable, and evidence and reason determine what is more or less probable.
Any critical thinking mind can see if there is no evidence or reason to believe GOD exists and there is evidence and reason to refute existence, the rational case against GOD has been fully tested and in that sense PROVEN.

I'm of the viewpoint anyone can believe what they want to believe on the subject and more power to them. No human can prove/disprove there are any gods.
The only time I have a problem is when people try to force others to believe as they do or attempt to make laws on their unproven beliefs.
No need to keep stewing over it, just chalk it up as unknowable. You can drink wine just cuz you wanna drink wine.

I'm of the viewpoint anyone can believe what they want to believe on the subject and more power to them. No human can prove/disprove there are any gods. The only time I have a problem is when people try to force others to believe as they do or attempt to make laws on their unproven beliefs. No need to keep stewing over it, just chalk it up as unknowable. You can drink wine just cuz you wanna drink wine. I'm of the viewpoint existence has to be proven, Ayn Rand's(pbuh) objectivism is my Bible and to be frank i have a problem with irrationality, do you think eugenics should be revisited? |

What is your belief system? * pulls up a chair * Personal  Give me a clue, does it involve anything supernatural ? The reason i ask is i debated for years with a Professor who was an atheist who believed in ghosts ffs? He and his wife saw one, we both tried to get each other sectioned.  |
