Getting back to the original issue, it would seem to be a practical example of how poor decisions and bad life choices can come back to bite one in the butt long after the poor decisions and bad choices have been made and the immediate consequences thereof have been experienced. And to add to that did the kid go back, apologize to those he hurt and the inconvenience he cost them?
This is where OldCoyote needs to set the example and say what you just wrote.
Sometimes it sucks to be an adult!

In my experience, this isn't that uncommon. When you have a plea in one court that resolves a bunch of other charges, sometimes a charge gets overlooked in a different court.

And it's why many employers don't want to hire people who've had prior convictions, rehab, litigation or other drama. It's the gift that keeps on giving... sometimes for years after the person has started to turn around the do the right thing.

It really does suck that some stupid mistakes can follow you forever but unfortunately this is how the world works. This is why, IMHO, it is also really important to be choosy about who you spend time with. People can get caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. It would really suck to go down for something "the group" did but one didn't want to be a part of or didn't know was going to happen. The people one surrounds themselves with does matter.

Teaching I was amazed by how many parents had kids who had been victims of peers who were bad influences and so few parents of those kids who were the bad influences.

I have two unrelated stories about this. The first is a woman who is the mother of a kid who went to school with my DD. She has a fairly uncommon name but apparently someone with the same name had a bunch of warrants out for her arrest. Well it turns out the real criminal doesn't seem to have a real fixed address. Does everyone see where this is going? She got actually hauled into jail the first two times. Only the first time actually had her in for any length of time but she was not philosophical about how mistakes happen and people were just doing their job trust me! She had never lived anywhere near the real person. she was a different race and age. It really shouldn't have been that hard to realize they didn't have the right person. The worst part is probably that at any time she knows someone could knock on her door to arrest her again and she never made the mistakes that are causing it. The second is I was in a car that was stopped and for some reason the cop looked at me in passenger seat and asked if he could see my ID. I said no. He looked totally confused and said I had to show it to him. I answered truthfully and said no I really don't but it doesn't actually matter because I didn't have it on me. He did just move on but it is chilling to think about.

If you're a passenger minding your own business, you're not even required to have ID on you. I'm glad he didn't detain you.

I've argued the point, but the cops get a bit hostile so I had to let it go before they decide that my tiny white female self is somehow threatening.

And before that it was The Great Gildersleeve - we listened to him during the War on the Barn Radio while doing the evening milking.
