Turkeys are cruel. Not only are their hearts frozen, but so is everything else. And it takes more than four days to thaw them. I pulled out ice chunks from my turkey breast this morning, and it had been thawing since Saturday. Next year I will start on Halloween. Make sure you air dry/cure it too starting October 31 too.

Thanksgiving dinner earlier today at a friend's home, the salt was in the P shaker and the pepper was in the S shaker.

I deserve some sort of award for not stabbing anyone with my fork at Thanksgiving today. Several people deserved it. Thank goodness there was pumpkin cheesecake.

Speaking of stabbing, one of the folks who I dined with today I take to chemo when her husband cannot. Several weeks ago, she told me at chemo she had a very bizarre dream the previous night about a mutual friend of ours in which my friend stabbed the mutual friend because the mutual friend took her mashed potatoes. 100% out of character for my friend.
Fortunately, that mutual friend did not dine with us today because mashed potatoes were served and mashed potatoes are one of the few things my friend can enjoy eating while on chemo.

Don't come between me and my mashed potatoes. Ever.

I messed up jello. . My first holiday as a married person hosting. Don't feel bad. As a new bride, I could mess up boiling water! In my defense the darn directions say it gels in a few hours. That's a lie.

Not this year, but....
When using a mandolin slicer, ALWAYS use a guide (or a Kevlar glove, that's okay too).

When buying groceries be sure to keep your "kids' hands" out of the fridge or, failing to do so, be prepared to change your recipes as needed. Improvisation is your friend

COOKING TIP: pumpkin pie spice and taco seasoning are not interchangeable. Neither are nutmeg and sage. I was making myself a cup of festive eggnog with Dominican rum. Instead of sprinkling it with nutmeg, I accidentally used sage. Disgusting.

mixing up the cumin and the curry in an indian lentil dish will result in Mexican flavored lentils. I called it fusion cooking and the results were delicious.

OMG you crack me up!! And now I want to taste it just to know how that worked out for you and if it's still salvageable. Disgusting. Not salvageable. IDK, pumpkin pie spice is a spice or three short of "curry powder"... Adding Cumin, coriander, maybe a bit of ginger and maybe a good amount of Pepper (either fresh black or a hot pepper) might have salvaged the taco's - it would have had a more Indian than Southwestern flavor.
