Has anyone tried this diet?
I started it about 4 days ago. I'm still working out how many grams of fat I should have. I used a percentage of calories from someone on another website I record foods on myfitnesspal.com. So far only a slight weight decrease of 1 pound, which reflects the progress of my friend. We'll see.
My petite friend lost 13 pounds in about one month. She went back to WW after that. Another friend who has a lots of digestive issues has been doing it for years to keep her calories up. She is tiny.
Another friend has lost 65 pounds and still going. She can eat bacon whereas I cannot.
What I have noticed is the thought of sugar nauseates me. A lot of my food preferences have changed.

I've done it. Be careful with hidden carbs. They're everywhere.

If you're doing Atkins, or the Drinking Man's Diet, it doesn't matter how many grams of fat you ingest. When your body goes into ketosis, the pounds melt right off, regardless. But you have to keep the carbs to absolute minimum.

I did it, only it was high protein and not fat. It worked, but I would have cut you for a piece of bread.

I have a bread monkey on my back, and there's a good French bakery on every corner.

I just TRY to limit my carbs to fruit.
I have 3 meals throughout the week where I allow myself something else instead of fruit- a portion of rice, a small baked potato, etc.
So out of 3 meals a day for the week = 21 meals......18 times I have a piece of fruit with each meal the other 3 I will allow myself a "regular" carb

Does it help you lean out or do you feel that you're loosing muscle mass as well? I keep trying to limit carbs, but the more I work out, the more I crave them.

Tractor, I cannot answer your question. I am too new at this. It is supposed to reduce body fat which would not bother muscle mass. I can PM the notes I have taken so far.
I started last weekend so I'm about 5 days in. I cut sugar, chips and bread completely and did get a head ache for a couple of days. I have been weaker in the gym but some of that was from insomnia and I became slightly dehydrated on Tuesday.
My friend still hasn't sent me information. The info on the computer repeats itself.
I found a book 200 Low-carb High-fat recipes by Dana Carpender. She mentions a Fat Fast where calories are limited to 1,000 per day with 90% fat content. There are recipes in the book so it's not like doing olive oil shots all the time. Consuming 200 calories of the recipe are recommended during the Fat Fast.
The book does have recipes for different flavors of crackers.
What I have learned so far. I used myfitnesspal.com with goals of 85% Fat, 5% carbs and 15% protein. In settings, I added fiber to one measure. 2 tablespoons of coconut oil or olive oil is about 28 grams of fat. I have not seen a decrease in body weight. If too many carbs are consumed, both the fat and carbs are stored.
Carbs are net carbs of carbs minus fiber. myfitnesspal does not figure that out.
Myfitnesspal does have a place to enter your own recipes. I can check a food's content before consuming it by keying it into food search, finding the food, selecting then look at nutrition.

If you haven't lost weight, then you're still consuming too many carbs. With Atkins, from whence all low-carb diets came, you have to have ZERO carbs for the first five days or so. You can live on whipped cream and bacon, and you'll still lose weight. Once your body goes into ketosis, you can start adding some carbs, but not many. You can track ketosis with urine dip-sticks you buy at the drug store. When a stick turns purple, you're in ketosis. Again, watch for hidden carbs. If you drink a glass of milk, for example, it's loaded with lactose, which is a sugar.

I don't know how to keep Thanksgiving from derailing me. I doubt I can do zero carbs. Milk is off my food list because of lactose intolerance.
One day at a time.

I went out to eat with my GFs on Tues. I asked a GF who low carbed for over a year what was low carb on the menu. She dodged the answer so I ordered something I hadn't eat in a couple of years. That salad turned out to be the worst. Yesterday I did real well. The outside temperature is brutally cold so I made potato soup today. After putting the recipe on myfitnesspal.com, it wasn't that bad. I rechecked on the ketosis link above on amount of carbs (up to 50). I also took 3 psyillium hull caplets even though they don't show any fiber content on the nutrition info. I am also having lemon ginger tea and some cucumber as a night snack. I read on one of the fitness newsletters that combination at night helps reduce belly fat. My waist does feel slimmer. I did overhear a friend say that my weight decrease was noticeable but she didn't know how much. She's a PT doctor so she notices those things. A lot of weight loss in my age range can be worrysome if the reduction is not intentional. Exercise was reduced last week because of a tennis tournament I was playing in and didn't want late onset tiredness. This week is also an exercise decrease because of the weather and how long the drive is to the gym. I consider removing snow and ice from the vehicle I am driving as part of my exercise program. As well as the nerves driving. Two blizzards in two weeks with four days between the two when everything was shut down. The weather woman said it is reasonably cold at one point then a balmy -17 degrees below zero F.

Artemis Windsong, I followed this program in 2012 and lost 30 pounds. I looked better and felt great. I've since gained it all back, plus 5. I am back on the program now, however. It's amazing how some of us cannot process sugar and grains. I am bloated, puffy and exhausted. Before eating high fat/low carb, it's all I knew. What a difference.

I have noticed a significant difference in how I feel and look. I took the Dr. Oz carbohydrate test with the saltine cracker and ended up slow carb metabolsim. I am down almost 15 pounds since mid-November. Early December a friend said the reduction was noticeable.
I don't have the gastric problems I used to have although elimination can be sluggish. I take a prune/senna combination as needed.
I have noticed I am weaker in the gym. Could this be from irregular workouts or from the reduced eating plan.
I tried a bed time recipe that is supposed to reduce belly fat. The lemon in it was like jet fuel for me.. Another Dr. Oz thing. I cleaned my computer desk off and now can't find it. I looked on his web page and didn't find it.
The best I recall is 1/2 lemon, cucumber, ginger, water. I had been using Lemon-ginger tea with probiotics and ate the cucumber.

Artemis Windsong, has anything changed in the gym? Because the holidays are over, I started the HFLC program again. After just one day I am already sleeping better.

My insulated pants are falling off and here we are at subzero temperatures and wind chill. I can stay in most of the time. The new cords I bought are too big. Not so much that they look real bad, yet.
My 18 tennis skirts will not be fitting anymore. I am going to make a dart to take them in and put a pretty button on the side. Yes, I have a thing about tennis skirts.
Something else. My tennis shoes are getting too loose My newest ones are only 4 months old.
Even if I weren't eating the fats, I would drop weight by not eating french fries, various chips sugar and bread, noodles, rice.
The reduced belly fat recipe stimulates elimination so the belly would look flatter.

I continue working the plan. I haven't weighed in a few days. I was partially derailed on low carbs with a chocolate silk pie a friend brought over for dessert after dinner. I'm back on track today. I would like to know how to break the stall. I don't want to spend money on the program online for 3 days of 1000 calories. I probably could figure it out. I do want to reduce the size of my arms. A lot of that is age related. I made cream cheese fat bombs today. The cream cheese in my freezer is fat free. I'll switch that out. I have been making chia pudding with coconut milk. The chia requires a lot of water with any serving because it pulls water. I have 5.5 lbs of it because that was the only size Walmart had left. I found several cookie recipes. Walmart was also low on flax seed and ground flax. A lot less expensive there. How are weltschmerz and Iggy doing?

I have continued on the HFLC eating plan. Overall it is going well.
What I have learned. I shoot archery. Before I shoot I need to have carbs to keep my strength up.
I seem to blow everything with ice cream. Or nacho tortilla chips that I count.
I have been through the worst emotional strain since the start of February. My great grandson was born then died 10 days later. I pucked pain. My bones ached for weeks. I am getting better but there are twice monthly reminders and his actual due date. The medical bills are mounting. Insurance took care of the mother's medical bills right away. They did have life insurance on him which will help. They had a fundraiser last weekend as well as gofundme page.
I managed to maintain my weight. I have noticed muscle weakness in the gym. Some of my favorite exercise classes I haven't been to. I do feel better. My clothes fit better. I manage to sleep well with benedryl and not reupping my sleep med.
