I had a huge sign in my kitchen "Dec 29/8:00/TLC/Extreme Couponing". I'm so glad that you guys started posting about it cuz I'm on the west coast and the 8:00 apparently was eastern time.

I totally missed the first couponer, but the second gal was good. She even profiled the cashier - something that I do all the time. They didn't say whether or not the Safeway that she went to was doing double coupons, but I myself would find it almost impossible to buy over $600 worth of items and get it for under $3 in one trip at Safeway.
Okay, now they're on to the third gal.

HELP please - i just read about CVS not taking expired ECBs & i have a couple of high value ones i intended to roll before christmas but the holiday came & went too fast. what has been your response with trying to use any expired ones this last week? ETA - what would you roll a $10 EB into this week? jdnstl: Have you done the AZO yet? It is $6.99 and get a $5EB. There WAS a $5 pdf for it, but I have no idea where to find it now. LIMIT: 3 I think the AZO deal ended on 12/25, but you could pick up Complete Contact Solution for $9.99 and get back $9.99 EB (Limit 1). This deal is good until 1/11 as per iheartcvs. Think we're allowed to post hyperlinks again? We used to be able to do that on the MSN boards but then we got in trouble. If so, here's a link right to her post www.iheartcvs.com/2010/11/december-2010-eb-deals-1128-1225.html!

So jealous of everyones bargains. How can I get the $20 P&G coupon? I never thought to shop at places like CVS. I thought grocery stores had better prices. When I have tried to coupon in the past, I found that I was buying items that I wouldn't ordinarily buy. I try to avoid cookies, chips, cereals, and frz entries. Plus, I shop for convenience - already roasted whole chicken ($6.99), ham & cheese from the deli (it tastes better), bags of lettuce (instead of a whole head). The grocery stores do have better prices. It is just that when there is a sale on food, or it is a drastic markdown, and I have coupons and EB's to pay for it, my food ends up costing very little. I still have to buy my whole chickens on sale. I wait until they are about 80 cents a pound or less. They bake at 350 in about an hour and a half. Costco sells them for about $5.99, so not a huge difference, but convenient. As far as lettuce, I prefer romaine. I like to buy this in a bag of 3 heads at WINCO or in a larger bag at Costco. You will get a lot more lettuce this way. If you really like the bags, I wait until they are less than 2 for $5.00. Von's has them on sale, starting tomorrow. I also like to buy the bags at Food 4 Less or Ralph's (Kroger) when they mark the bags down to 99 cents a bag. I use coupons mainly for my toiletries, makeup, cleaning supplies etc.

The first gal was just, to borrow a dancinmama term--WHACKADOO!!! My husband told me if I ever got that bad he'd have me committed and take away my coupons! Not so sure I'd take my kids dumpster diving, although, if times were tough enough, I MIGHT consider it..however, in the area I live, I think I'd find things that I really don't want to have to explain to a 6yr old and a 7yr old.... At least the guy was donating to the local food pantry with his 1,100 boxes of cereal. However, does he REALLY need enough deo and body wash to last 150 years?? OH!!! I had to stop and do the math in my head.. He was buying 60 bottles of hand soap that were on sale 10/$10. He had a MQ that doubled to make each bottle 30-cents. All I could think of was "The gals on the board wouldn't pay 30-cents for a bottle of hand soap! That's still too much!"

Oh my word, that first lady needs to be committed. She has a shopping addiction and is heading to divorce if she doesn't get it under control. The second was a bit more reasonable. I have seen the third one before elsewhere. I love how she was talking to everyone about the coupons. I love that they showed the last guy donating the cereal as I know a lot of us do donate extra items. I get that they were showing extreme examples, but most couponers are not that insane. At least now my DH knows how bad it could be.

weaselfer, I would have to agree---the first lady needs to be committed or something! Holy smokes! Her hubby looked a little, um, po'd, that she was taking over his "man cave" with her addiction! The one they call "the crazy coupon lady" has a blog/web site, and the guy is the one who moderates the "we use coupons" site. The first one, though, was just a little too much. My hubby is like yours---he realizes how bad it could be and is grateful I'm not THAT bad...

Oh, and one thing they really didn't go into. The first lady did not get all that for $50. It was $50 plus the $70 she spent to get the coupons. You really have to take that into account. Sometimes it is a deal breaker for me, especially if it will not be a "free" item that I am not going to use.

The thing is, I think I remember when those coupons came out that they were using. I remember the Barilla picolinni coupons came out and no one here carried it. Also, my store will only double three like coupons (Kroger) the other stores around here do not double at all. But I do agree with it being a chess match.

And you are TOTALLY right. I would NEVER pay $.30 for a bottle of hand soap unless I needed it as a filler at WAGs (ha ha ha). I have plenty of Dawn and Gain dish soap or shampoo that I can use as handsoap that I made money buying!!

No double coupons for me anywhere ever; but that's okay. I make do with what I have available. Do you remember how long ago the Barilla coupons came out? I am trying to get a read on when these segments might have been taped.

dancin, I don't remember when the coupons for the pasta came out, but I'm thinking it was summer/fall, just based on the gal from Philly and there wasn't 30 inches of snow on the ground:) If you go to tlc.discovery.com/tv-schedules/special.html?paid=2.13700.56445.41059.0, it looks like it will be on again at 1am tomorrow morning, if that helps. You REALLY need to see the first gal!! She really IS out there where the buses don't run! I would almost call her a hoarder and not a stockpiler/extreme couponer! She takes it to the EXTREME!!!!

In addition, you really should take into account the cost of gas and your time. I know that I do. I will not drive across town to get something that we do not need, even if it is "free". I do get all of my coupons for free and although the days of getting 30+ sets of inserts are long gone, I think the liquor stores will let me pull for as long as they are in business. Sometimes I get as few as 4 sets of inserts and sometimes I get a dozen. I never know what will be left, but free is free.

Thanks, that's 10:00 my time and I set the DVR. Now I'm just curious after all the negative comments. I kind of wondered when it was taped cuz I just don't know how the lady at Safeway got her total so low. I'm going to have to watch what she bought cuz unless she bought (40) each of five different items, I find it amazing that she was able to get over $600 worth of things for less than $3. There are a few times during a year when I can get something for free at Safeway, but it is fairly rare.

I watched the last 15 minutes of the show. I hope that TLC plays it again. There is no way that he can use that much deodorant. I know that what he can do is extraordinary, but I can not compete with it. He garage is way too neat and clean, LOL. Good for him. I am so glad that he knows how to give it away to charity.

Okay, I agree that the first lady was a total WHACKADOO!! The two middle gals were a little bit more reasonable. I still was not able to figure out how the second gal got all that stuff at Safeway for so little OOP. I have been doing this for a very long time and the only way I have been able to get anywhere close to what she did (at Safeway) was to do multiple transactions where I am rolling CATs (think back to my Bertolli spaghetti sauce caper that I did with the help of TAM, ooty, and several other gals who sent coupons to help me out).
I was a little bothered by the last guy. Why on earth would you PAY $.30/bottle for hand soap? The whole idea behind what we do is to get what we need for free or as close to it as possible. He paid $18 plus the cost of coupons for liquid hand soap. He bought (60) and I'm going to estimate that he paid about $.10 per coupon adding another $6 to the cost of his purchase and then sales tax on top of that. He said that he wouldn't have to "worry" about buying hand soap ever again.
People are going to watch this show and think that they should follow his example, but I don't think it was quite the "check mate" that he made it out to be. I think the correct strategy is to build your stockpile SLOWLY, over time, when you can get the items that you use regularly for free or pretty close to it. IF I were totally out of hand soap and had no dish liquid or shampoo that I could use to tide me over, I would have purchased one or two bottles of the liquid hand soap at $.30/bottle and then waited for another sale in the future where I could stockpile it for free.
Stockpiling does not have to be done all at once. Slow and sure is probably going to save you more money.
Ordinarily, maybe he wouldn't have purchased the liquid hand soap the way he did. He probably did it to increase his before coupon total just for the show. AND I thought he said that the cereal was supposed to be free after coupon, but later in the show I thought that he said that he paid $150 for it so maybe I missed something.

The lady who spent all that time in Kroger was also from the We Use Coupons website. On the forum, she stated that she also donated most of what she bought (all that pasta). She said the show was taped in September and they made her out to look..........WACKADOO I guess.
Vince watched it with me and was impressed. He said he's missed our crazy coupon shopping trips to Kroger late Friday nights. He's been working his regular job, plus trying to start his own business since July. Therefore, I've not subjected him to much of my shopping trips. He quit his job last week and will be starting his own car repair busineess full time Monday so our crazy Friday trips will return. Please pray that his business will take off. He's worried about it.

Hi. I posted once on the other board but lurked for a LONG time. New name, same me. Thanks for all the insights. For the ladies who are in the midwest, IL, and are near suburban Chicago, Marianos does double coupons Wednesdays and Saturdays, total of 5 coupons per visit up to a dollar.

I think I am going to start with these items first, otherwise, I am afraid I will be buying a lot of junk food just because I have a coupon.
I am going to Walmart today to buy shower gel, laundry soap, and dish washing liquid - wish I had me some coupons!

An additional note on Marianos, the prices are competitive to most stores in the area, but they are a little high on some items. DS shops there often with BIL. He LOVES the free samples. So did DH when we went there the other day. They are however VERY crowded I think most of the time. Produce is good quality, nice organics, very wide assortment of products. Not your usual grocery store. It seems pretty upscale. AND, I'm not sure how long their doubling policy will be in effect. Anyway, just a thought.
On another note, Meijer is running their 75% off of Cristmas items, and yesterday there was still a LARGE assortment to go through...

Call me crazy, but that's exactly what I spend on hand soap. My rock bottom price here is 10/$10 and the coupons are never better than $.35, which my Kroger will double to $.70 ( I WISH I had a Kroger that would triple these small value q's, making for FREE soap!).
Shampoo is just a pain because it clogs up my soap dispensers and leaves residue on my hands. Dish soap is the opposite and will dry out my hands, even the Olay stuff that's not supposed to. I would rather spend $.30 per bottle on a flavor that I like than put up with a substandard substitute. The only time I was able to score FREE hand soap was when Softsoap came out with a new line and there were good coupons and sales for a while.

dancinmama - 30c is the rock bottom price for handsoap around here. I know that meijer/kroger will have the Softsoap/Dial on sale for $1 each & our Qs are always 35c/1. The only time I get free softsoap, is with a 50c/1 Softsoap Q from ALL YOU or the Colgate site. Cdarrow - I also loved Joyce. That's how I coupon/stockpile. I don't like the extremes the others go to. I don't even think Meijer will allow anyone to purchase that much in one order. Shelly - I know Vince's business will do well. This is a good time to have his own shop too. Since the recession started, more & more people are having their cars fixed, instead of buying new ones. DH has been crazy busy all year long and I'm sure things will go the same way for Vince.
