I / we wanted to turn it off (Netflix rental) but we really couldn't turn it off - and watched til the end
Yes, we had to finish watching too. The funny thing is I thought the movie was made in 1996/1997, but it was made in 2007! LOL, I didn't believe it.

I'm not a big fan of gory "gotcha" horror movies since I sit there like a rock through it all, never flinching or being startled. I can always tell when the "gotcha" moment is coming by the camera angle, music, the 'victim's' clothing, or the context. Plus the characters behave in such a stupid fashion, always being dumb about their own survival ... the only screams from me are ones bellowed in frustration!
However, I love a good old fashioned ghost story. Unlike the "gotcha" movies, the kind of scare ghost stories give is the kind that sits in the pit of your stomach and broods there. They tap into that primordial fear of the dark, of shadows, flitting shapes, and mysterious noises. It is the fear one has in childhood, and I think that is a very powerful fear that borders on terror. If I'm going for an emotional rush, I would rather experience a cold, lingering terror than to simply be startled with a "boo!"
Therefore, my favorites include, but are not limited to:
Burnt Offerings What Lies Beneath The Haunting That one with Kevin Bacon that I can't think of right now (grr) In a Dark Place The Messengers The Amityville Horror (original) Ghost Story
And a host of older ghostly movies that I saw as a child but can't remember what they are.

Good list Shirina.
That was "Stir of Echoes." That was a good movie. The one scene with the fingernail. Yikes. It makes me cringe to think about it.

If you want to see the sickest movie villain of all times, watch "Feed". Be fairly warned, you may not want to eat for a couple of days.

I just watched "Let Me In" on Netflix. WOW, great flick! I concur. Very good. Anyone see the original? Is it worth it or should I watch the English version again?

I've never seen the original, so I can't say. However, I'm now watching all the episodes of "Masters of Horror". Excellent series.

I got the original "Let the Right One In" from Netflix. I tried to watch it for months, but every time I put it on something happened (baby waking up, etc.) where I had to turn it off. I was upset though because the version I got was dubbed in English. I hate that. I would rather the subtitles. I find it distracting to listen to a movie I know should be in another language with English words and American accents.

I prefer dubbing, I hate trying to read as I watch.

I love horror films. Last night, I saw the worst horror movie in the world....so bad that it was great! Planet Terror. Missing reels, jerky cinematography, terrible acting, ocular trauma, non-stop gore and a stripper/amputee with a machine gun for a leg.

If anyone knows the title of this film, I would live to know it. i saw it when i was just a teen, but can't remember the name of it. Here's the story. first, it's a film with 3 or 4 short stories in it. The only one i liked was the goriest of all. There was a white female, blond cop, and a black male cop chasing a speeding car. The cop car crashes and turns over, and then you see some legs outside of the overturned police car, and then the hands reaching in and dragging out the black officer. Then the officer is dragged into a warehouse building where the blond female officer follows them. Next she is in a darkened building trying to find her partner and falls down a hole where there is all these bloody body parts and weird flying things above her. She then crawls out and then she ended up passing out. Next, she wakes up in what looks like a hospital room where and old, heavyset woman (granny type) is looking down on her. The blond is awake and asks for help and wanted to know where she was at. The old woman told her she would be ok. Next the walls start to turn to blood and the sheets are pulled off the blond in the bed and her legs and arms had already been cut off to feed to the alien flying bat like creatures. she was left screaming in the bed with these thing flying above her and the old woman that gives birth to them. weird movie, creepy and gory (I like), but I cannot find the film and I really want to see this film again. I hope someone knows what film I am talking about. I have been trying to find it for over 10 years now, and really want it in my DVD collection. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Necronomicon_(film)

I have to recommend "Midnight Movie" made in 2008, directed by Jack Messitt. Awesome.

I saw "Insanitarium". It was made in 2008 starring Jesse Metcalfe of "Desperate Housewives" fame. It was a gore fest with some stupid script and major plot holes. Although some of the acting left a lot to be desired, Peter Stormare did a good job as the head of the mental facility/crazy experimenting psychiatrist. If you like a lot of gore and blood and don't mind a weak story, this one is for you. It wasn't for me.
