sounds like a welfare reform law being tossed about and some wackos are twisting the info to cause hysteria to me. I googled and couldn't find legitimate news sources that I recognized, mostly blogs.

QUOTE from link in post #2 Paragraph (c) allows EBT cardholders to opt to have up to $20 per month accessible via ATM.
it reads to me that they can have up to $20. cash from their EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) card a month. I'm not seeing where they can't have more than $20. on hand from other sources they may have, just cash withdrawals from the EBT card are limited. Probably aimed at cutting abuse/fraud using the money for drugs? cigs? beer? etc that are not permitted purchases with gov't aid/ food program.

Bus fare, lunch,....I don't think I could go with just 20 bucks a month in cash. I see the logic,it just seems unreasonable to enforce it to me.

Govt social programs and other fed mandates place restrictions on assets in order to obtain benefits. Nothing new here...though the $20 limit seems draconian, perhaps it will motivate welfare recipients to get a job.

I thought Obama killed all the jobs. Now,the unemployed are so by choice?

I perceive the unemployed receiving benefits differently than welfare recipients, these are two different groups in my mind. There are no restrictions that I have heard of how UE benefits are spent, the unemployed paid into the insurance program while working.

Why would it motivate them to get a job,if they are not unemployed?

Why would it motivate them to get a job,if they are not unemployed? who are the not unemployed 'they' you are referring to?? are you asking specifically about welfare recipients? eta... if 'they' are not unemployed, then 'they' are working and self supporting?

I thought Obama killed all the jobs. Now,the unemployed are so by choice? Some are. If given the choice between welfare and a job, they pick welfare...

Govt social programs and other fed mandates place restrictions on assets in order to obtain benefits. True. It's part of my job as a Representative Payee to make sure my clients don't go over limit. I don't see this as feasible unless you have all welfare recipients being monitored, which just isn't feasible.

The bill doesn't limit the cash they can have in their pockets, or cash on hand. It limits what they have available to withdraw like an ATM card. I'm actually aghast that public assistance has turned into a direct transfer to cash at all. And from what I've seen of these "ATM" / "Debit Card" welfare programs...we could actually tighten things up quite a bit. Until they blocked it, CA welfare recipients were logging transactions at casinos and aboard cruise ships... travel.usatoday.com/cruises/post/2010/10/cruise-ship-california-welfare-money-charge-payment-fraud/126451/1Doesn't strike me as garbage stickers and bus fare. And if you're not off to work- what's the bus fare for? Where are you going? You want a handout- they come with strings attached. Priviledges and freedoms come with responsibilities.
