Manners aren't stupid and outdated. So I'd take it you use a fork and knife to eat a drumstick?! I DO follow all good table manners if I am with people that do the same but if I'm by myself I don't realy care. In our area there are maybe 2-3 restaurants where one should use good table manners but very few people actually do so I'm just doing the exact thing they are doing as not to embarrass anyone or look pretentious. Ofcourse I'm not gonna eat a steak with my bare hands but I'm not gonna try to pick the meat of a drumstick with my fork either. And I can't keep my elbows on the table even if I wanted to! That would mean my plate would be in the midle of the table. Only Donald Trump uses a knife and fork for fried chicken and pizza. That being said, I do try to follow the basic rules of etiquette. Good table manners are nothing to be embarrassed about, and in MY area, most people do use good manners. I don't think using good manners is pretentious...it's just good manners. I find the bolded kind of sad. If you want to talk with your mouth full, while waving around a fork full of food and wearing a hat at the table, knock yourself out. Slurp your soup and lick your plate. No skin off my nose.

Uppity people, mmm. That must include my grandparents who didn't have a pot to piss in until I was around 12 years old but managed to dress decently in public and be polite.

My immigrant parents were dirt poor as well, but always dressed nicely when they left the house, and always stressed the importance of good manners.

Hardly uppity. My mother worked as an indentured servant to wealthy European families when she was a young girl. She was always around when their kids were given etiquette lessons, and were told "You may be rich, but you won't get very far in life if you act like you were raised in the stables!" She learned etiquette that way, and passed it on to her children. And her husband. You didn't dare sit at her table wearing a hat.

My mother also grew up poor, but well mannered. If you are enforcing and judging people for scratching their arm in public - you are uppity. I don't care how poor you are. That is way too uptight for 2016. No one cares, except a few uppity people.

Talking with your mouth full is just plain disgusting and has nothing to do with table manners. Or flailing your arms while eating with or without a knife. Now, not slurping your soup is good manners and it hapened that I had to go and tell someone to stop doing it. It just drives me nuts! I gotta admit that I never seen anybody licking their plate! And no, is not bad not having many fancy restaurants around. We don't realy care that much for. In fact there are maybe 3-4 places where we go to. All others are too noisy!

I didn't say all manners are dumb, only the ones that don't have a purpose in today's society. I agree that it is more hygienic if everyone keeps their fingers out of their asshole. If you need to do that in private, and then wash you hands - that is your business.

Z is dating! You missed the story of the pickup in the office. I briefly thought "Z" meant Zib and not Zaire. And I missed how she got picked up in some office...or there was an actual pickup truck in an office. Now I get it and am back on track. I need to stop half-heartedly reading the boards and pay more attention.

He's a cute mini Australian Shepherd and he's an adorable wiggle butt and can't hold his likker!!! Tongue.

I have to remember where I am sometimes lol...

Zaire, you brought this to the boards. Nobody here solicited this information from you and those who have posted have tried to give you good advice. There is certainly no need for barbed sarcasm in response. If you don't wish to read comments on what you post here, it's probably best not to post personal issues of this nature. We have no need to know but we care enough about you to try to offer constructive advice where it seems to be needed. Blah and Blah!

and what about the sipping through a straw just making noise and clearly no drink left?

That's what noses are for, to breathe out of. Don't get me started on straw slurping noises. I'm sure that's trying to be cute and not irritating.

I have only once or twice started off using my knife at Pizza Hut the last time I was out on a dinner 'date' with a friend I no longer speak to I was cutting the first slice of pizza, when her daughter (at the time was 10 years old) asked why am I cutting my pizza? I said because it's too hot to bite and I am too hungry to wait for it to cool off

Of course you were! If you're not aware of your bad manors [sic], then you behaved the same way.

I checked also. I know how to spell it but that doesn't mean I always type it correctly. Spelling errors don't bother me as much as "I seen my friend yesterday!" I can't believe how many people say "I seen" instead of "I saw". Makes my teeth hurt.

I think picking one's nose would be another we could agree on.
