The IRS scammers have solved that pesky foreign-accent problem by using computer-generated American-accented robot-people voices. They're hilarious.
Their syntax and word choices still need work, though. The robot man who left a voicemail message for me warned me that I must respond immediately or allegations will be filed against me. The robot lady who left me a voicemail message yesterday said the allegations would be taken against me. I don't know who to believe.
Robot man said this was my final chance and if he didn't hear from me or my attorney immediately, "all I can do is wish you a good luck as the situation unfolds upon you."
I laughed and laughed and told him "that was a good one," but he didn't hear me because it was a voicemail.

I managed to keep one of those Windows errors guys on the phone for 5 minutes and 48 seconds yesterday. New record! I think it was blown when DH burst out laughing and I had them on speaker phone....

I got a call yesterday from someone telling me they can offer me a lower interest rate on my credit card. I kept them on for a few minutes by asking questions like, which credit card are you calling about? They never really did answer my questions though. They did mention they got my information from Experion.

I had a call from the IRS (apparently headquartered in Beijing these days)
First he asked for Mary Smith. "Wrong Number"
Then he asked if city X rang a bell? "Nope"
How about city Y? "Nope"
City Z? WTF.
I asked him then if he planned on naming all the cities in Texas because its a big state and I had somewhere to go. He seemed flustered, mumbled something and hung up.
Haven't these stupid scams played out yet?

Apparently, the DNC list is meaningless.

The calls it cannot eliminate are the ones from scammers who are concealing their identities on CID and don't care about laws anyway. Legitimate businesses can be found and fined if they call when you have asked not to be called. Scammers are unaffected by the list and are often operating outside the US and are beyond the reach of any kind of legal redress.
Don't blame the list; it's doing the best it can.

This reminded me that I have a million bucks coming any day now from a deceased uncle in Nigeria*. Did you save their number so I can ask them how it will affect my taxes?? *I know! I'm just as surprised as you are! Parents never told me about their brother born in Nigeria! Why, yes, as a matter of fact, I did: 315-791-7382. It must be real, the area code is for Ontario, NY, up near the Canadian border. You know, where the IRS has its headquarters because it's so centrally located and... Oh, wait ...

ROFL!!!
I'm getting a lot of persistent, repeated, calls from unknown numbers. I should answer them and join in the fun, except I'm afraid they're political calls/polls. Nigerian scams and "IRS" threats are way more fun than political calls.

I feel so left out. My one contact with the IRS came via snail mail and sadly I knew what they were after me about was legit after I checked my tax return for the year in question. I owed. Dammit it all!!!!

I've only ever received one call. I told them I was a CPA and prepared taxes for a living and they hung up on me.

I've gotten this one even being threatened with Federal Grand Jury problems (this was left on voice mail).
I really should call them back and tell them my problems are solved since I got another voice mail yesterday saying that I had won $2.5 Mill and a new car. The guy said all I had to do was call blah blah and I heard a small voice in the background saying "no, no" - the guy was repeating MY number for me to call. He very politely said "I am sorry, this is the number you should call and started a new number and again I could hear someone in the background saying "yes".
I see no reason why one scammer shouldn't benefit from the other scammer so I'm going to put them in touch with the number to collect the money I owe them

I work for the utility company. Scammers started sending out calls to our customers threatening shutoff, and set up a number for customers to call back (not ours, obviously). Since their CID was mocked up to look like it came from us, customers didn't question calling the other number instead of the ones on their bills. The scammers mimicked our IVR for the return call and were taking payments! The kicker was all payments had to be on pre-paid cards (so the scammers couldn't be tracked). Sadly they got quite a bit of money out of people.

"Attorney" offices wanting to sue someone on my behalf arent legit? Someone wanting to sell me rug cleaning isnt legit? (Forgot about that one). Scams are entirely different than people trying to sell me services Im not interested in....and the DNC absolutely should be stopping those calls. Like everything else the government is involved it, it doesnt work. I easily get up to 10 calls a day. Ringer is off but I periodically go through and delete the log and answering machine.

Before there were so many scams, I received a call from a man telling me that I owed employment taxes. I don't have any employees so I knew it wasn't real. Just for fun, I played along and he ended up telling me the name to put on the check, along with the address. I am a retired IRS Agent. Checks for taxes are not made out to a name of a person!
When he hung up, I called the Criminal Investigation Division of the IRS with the information and what showed on my caller ID. They thanked me.

I got another one of these calls, day before yesterday. The guy's accent wasn't as strong as usual and he was quite pleasant. When he asked "How are you doing?" I told him I'm okay. But I'd be better, if they would stop calling me! Then I hung up. It kills me when I get these and the credit card calls. I don't file taxes and don't have any credit cards, or loans. (oops!) I get calls from attorney's, where they make it sound like it's a personal call "Hey Bob, this is Mike. We need to get together. Call me. (leaves #)" Because I don't want them to keep calling me, I call and let them know the person is unknown. So far, I've only spoken to secretaries. That good friend Mike, has never answered, or come to the phone. But they've been very nice and told me they would remove my number.
