Fulfilling a promise to his deceased father, one-time outlaw Jesse Custer returns home to West Texas to take over his dad's church. Jesse's mission, however, becomes twisted when his body is overcome by a cryptic force that unleashes within him a highly unconventional power. Together with hell-raising ex-girlfriend Tulip and Irish vagabond Cassidy, the preacher-in-training embarks on a journey to find God in a world inhabited by holy, hellish, and everything-in-between characters. The darkly comedic "Preacher" is based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's popular 1990s comic book franchise of the same name. Executive producers include Sam Catlin ("Breaking Bad"), and Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg ("Superbad," "Neighbors").

was not able to get interested!

I saw the first season on DVD.       It moved a little slow until the last few episodes (when I had a "oh man that got scary/disturbing/gross but still funny fast").  I admit I laughed... a lot (and I'm not proud of that...it's dark and disturbing but funny!)

I will admit I found Cassidy to be the most interesting of the characters. the others seemed rather flat.

I'd like to give the 2nd season a go - I'm just not sure how much humor they can wring out of "searching for God".  I'm not sure if it will become a "monster of the week" kind of show or if it will have an season long plot arc.

Same here. I tried 3 episodes but just haven't been able to get into it.

I watched this season of Preacher.  Wasn't bad.

But the one I did find very interesting this summer was American Gods.  Catch in reruns or on demand if you can.
