Amazon announced they broke all sale records yesterday. We do not have Amazon Prime, but our grand daughter has been a member for over a year. She called last night and said she did not see the hot deals like she did last year. If true, what the heck did Prime members buy this year? What did you buy, and was it an astounding savings?

Primer member here but bought nothing. Needed nothing. "The company reported Tuesday's 24-hour sale saw orders increase by more than 60% worldwide compared to its inaugural Prime Day sale last summer. TVs were a hot item with customers buying more than 90,000 worldwide. Shoes were also popular with more than 1 million pairs sold. Shoppers scooped up gifts for children, with more than 2 million toys headed to shoppers around the world in Amazon's signature brown boxes." money.cnn.com/2016/07/13/technology/amazon-prime-day-2016-sales/

I looked but everything on sale was cheap shit and other shot I didn't need or even want.
I saw those TVs on sale but they were crap...some brands I never even heard of.

THAT's (probably) why they were on sale for such a "great" price! LOL... The couldn't sell them at "regular" price and needed to get them gone!

Last year was horrible! I didn't even look this year but I'm pretty sure the kids bought some stuff...

Stupid stuff. Hair dryer, USB power strip, cat tree, dog toys. Everything was 50%-75% off. However, none of it cost that much to start with, it was just stuff I saw that I thought I'd need at some point. I visited late in the day, but I didn't see any hugely compelling deals.

Looked, but didn't buy anything. Just like last year there wasn't anything for sale that I wanted.

They still sold a few bucks worth of stuff regardless of quality. ""The numbers blew me away," R.J. Hottovy, Morningstar's consumer strategist, told CNBC. He estimates the event may have added between $500 million and $600 million in incremental sales to the retailer's topline. FBIC analyst Deborah Weinswig estimates sales at $525 million, up 26 percent from their projected sales of $415 million a year ago." www.cnbc.com/2016/07/13/amazon-prime-day-is-biggest-day-for-online-retailer-ever.html

I was quite close to buying a portable playpen I've been eyeing for the last month, until I double checked my wish list and realized the one they had on sale was the same price just had a canopy I'd never use. So yeah, didn't buy anything.

I looked in the morning and they had the Samsung 4k 55 inch curved one for $650. If I needed one that's a screaming deal.
I was just logged in. I have 13 things on the way apparently. It was all stuff I need and cheaper then me dragging myself to Target. I bought more this year. It looks like 10 boxes, the delivery guy will curse my name.
If you have kids in diapers 55% off Pampers is great. Some co-workers took advantage of that. I considered the Kindle unlimited but I've seen that price before. And I'm not sure it has books I want to read.
I thought the Microsoft Office was a decent deal. Needed it for Grandma's new computer and I can't do the work one again right now.

I bought several things. Not screaming deals. I got three card games for almost half off. I got a really good deal on a fit bit when I stacked promos (saved like 60).
I got a set of Rubbermaid glass storage containers for 20 off. I have seen it that cheap before but it sold out before I got it.
A trio of cutting board for 16. I got a present for my niece for 6 off. And a couple other things that weren't screaming deals or never before seen deals, but probably the lowest they ever are and I didn't have to wait and hope I saw it when they got that low again.

I'm tech-delayed, or tech-disinclined, or whatever the PC word is for impaired at the keyboard.
Consequently I have trouble navigating the Amazon website to find any items that are actually things I actually need, and I'm at that stage in my life when I'm trying to get rid of shit, rather than buy shit, so I don't need much.
My only exception is books - they're my crack-like addiction - but most of the big sale item books were ridiculous (Book of maps of the known Star Trek universe?) but there was one that we're going to be reading in my book club this year, so I got that at about half off.
So that was my big splurge. I'm so incredibly boring.

I assure you, you are not boring. But I liked the rest of your post.

Prime member and didn't buy anything. DS made up for it and bought parts to build himself a computer.
I looked a little but didn't see anything I really had to have.

Sounds like some people scored and others did not see anything worth while, and yet a record day for Amazon sales.
