I cannot speak for what this man went through or what the court awarded him, but the police's treatment of him (as described by the man) and trumped up chatges were pretty bad. Hopefully some police heads rolled.

I think the tough thing VB is when you are going through things like this you don't know its only going to be 4 days. You don't know someday in the future you might get awarded a shit ton of money.
Damn, I thought Ohio man wins Ohio lottery good for him. Maybe I can win too!

How long can you survive without water? Four days has to be pushing it.
The purpose of punitive damages isn't to compensate the plaintiff, but to prevent future similar incidents. A $22M judgment is a lot more likely to spur local governments to shuffle out their bad cops than a $22K one, and the facts in this case were pretty egregious.

Also, I'm not sure who the editor on this story was, but the below two paragraphs clearly do not belong together in the same story. After reading the first, you realize that his ordeal was much longer than 4 days. Unless being indicted on trumped-up drug charges manages to have no impact on your life somehow?
Two months later, a grand jury indicted Black on cocaine charges — even though police had no evidence to support the drug was ever in his possession. The case was later dropped, and Black filed his lawsuit in 2014.
A Cuyahoga County jury decided Tuesday to award Black $22 million for the four-day ordeal.

It is the taxpayers and an insurance company that pays the penalty. You sue the source of the most money, not the perpetraters. The cops should have come out penniless on this. Lose their home Assign their pension to the person abused and so on.

How many innocent people are killed by police every year. You lose your life and your family never gets this kind of money. I'll take the four days of abuse for the big jackpot. The bullet, not so much.
