Everclear will forever remind me of spring break at Myrtle Beach. We let strawberries marinate in everclear all day long and then they were ready in the evening. You couldn't taste the alcohol at all, just tasted like strawberries.

The Everclear (even though it's strong enough alcohol to be banned in many states) is not strong tasting and easily takes on the flavor of whatever else you mix it with. That's why it makes such awesome Limoncello.

I wonder why chocolate cookies are like crack and why one particular caterer in town thinks they should be the size of a salad plate. I also wonder why I pretended that breaking it into four pie sized pieces and eating it in quarters, slowly, over 45 minutes, somewhat fooled me into believing I was eating less than 1 whole plate sized cookie, when clearly I ate a whole plate sized cookie by myself. With chocolate chips the size of those little Hersey bars.

I've seen the truck/peacock combo twice now. The first time it was on the hood while the truck sat at the stop sign. It finally climbed off and the truck went across the road and the peacock followed it. 2nd time, the peacock was following it up the road on the way to the stop sign, I didn't get to see if it followed that time.

There's another house with a couple of geese that hang around the front yard. First sighting they were so still that I thought they were yard art. Next time they were standing in the other lane and not moving for traffic. It had to go around them, they weren't moving for us peasants.

My important question - do I know the guy that I accidentally friend requested on Facebook? I just checked my email and it said that "Joe Blow" accepted my friend request. I saw his name come up in the people you might know section, and I must have accidentally hit friend request. I do know a lot of his facebook friends- I think maybe we went to high school together, but not in the same graduating class - I'll have to check the old yearbooks later.
Hope he doesn't think I'm stalking him. LOL

I am wondering if Starbucks puts crack in their coffee. I pass 3 Starbucks every morning in the course of 2 miles before hitting the interstate. Every single one of them has a huge line of cars in the drive thru.

Do you think crows go from one roadkill to the next until they find something they feel like eating today? Kind of like, the opossum looks good today, but I think I'd rather eat squirrel.

Depends on the hotel, the location, and the date. I remember it took a lot of searching one year to find a room for three 20 year olds at the beach during spring break.

Given the look the desk gave me when I walked in myself with 7 teens last night I'm guessing he wouldn't have been happy to rent to them sans me.
Oh well next year at least I'll feel ok with just dropping them and taking off for elsewhere all day.

My 2 week old is drifting peacefully off to sleep next to me, so why am I not going to bed to get an hour or two while he sleeps? Instead I'm staying up for a while watching Olympic trials and futzing around on the internet. Why??!!?
Related to the hotel room question - you can't rent a car until you're 25, or that was the age last time I checked. Not sure why on that age? I couldn't wait until I was old enough to rent a car, lol. Sometimes we'd do it to save mileage on my older car, and it's fun to drive different new cars once in a while.

Some places let you rent at 23 I think? But only certain classes of cars and it requires extra fees or deposits. My work agency is piggybacked on DOD's contract. Doesn't matter if you are 18 under that contract.

Arrrgh. I hated that 25yo age limit with Avis. I always rented for work, so it didn't keep me from renting, but I couldn't sign up for Avis Preferred until I turned 25. The desk agents would give me a hard time about not being signed up since they could see how often I rented, but every time I tried, it would give me this error message:
You are not old enough to change your birth date.
It took me forever to figure out what the problem was, and even then the agents I talked to insisted I was wrong... right up until I turned 25 and was suddenly able to sign up with no issue.

I've rented cars for ODS periodically. Hertz rents to kids starting at 18 or 19 but with understandably much higher rental rates.
If you have AAA Gold and a younger driver you do not have to pay the higher rates.
I buy the CDW coverage through AAA when ODS rents a car. It has already paid for itself tenfold.

Yes, our DS, at age 21 started renting cars at a small premium. Also one company has cars for them that do not exceed 60 mph. He was unhappy that time!

You can rent a Uhaul at 19, DS had to rent one for his dad, who doesn't have a valid driver's license.

I had a thought to ponder here the other day and got sidetracked on my way to this thread. Hmmm....... I'm sure it was very interesting.

If someone doesn't eat meat but doesn't eat other discernable vegetables, would they be called a vegetarian?

If someone doesn't eat meat but doesn't eat other discernable vegetables, would they be called a vegetarian? Hm. We had this issue with my sister's husband. He ate mostly white bread, cheese and a few snack foods. Picture the types of foods that a 2 year old would eat if never given any parental guidance. He called himself vegetarian. We called him a picky eater.

Oh, and I have another one related to my situation today: do celebrities get jury duty? I'm not sure if he qualifies as a celebrity but the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court John Roberts has been called several times in Montgomery County. He lives in Bethesda along with a couple other justices. He shows up, chats with the judge and lawyers and gets dismissed. No defense attorney would let him serve. I'm sure he shows up and goes through the process to make a point about civic duty and so on.
