moreover, you suck as an employer. part of owning a business is figuring out how to get labor to work the job you want worked. if you can't do that, then you don't have a business. this goes for aerospace just as much as scut work. |

You got that off the MSN website yesterday didn't you? Naw. The idea that Trump was advancing on DC to remove the GOP brought to mind other conquests that didn't necessarily end well for anyone.
I know there are people who enjoy the thought of political upheaval and anarchy, but I can't think of a time in history when anarchy was a good thing - or at least not for the little people. As my boss likes to say, when the elephants fight it's the grass that gets trampled.

Why should you, or govt, not part of the equation, get to define it as a problem they need to solve to your satisafaction? Hickle, the problem we were discussing is illegal immigration. The illegals come to this country because they know there are bosses willing to hire them. If no one hired them, they would not come here. Back in the 2008 recession, so many illegals left North Georgia going back over the border that a whole school had to close due to lack of students - there were no jobs anymore so the illegals left.
If Coyote wants to hire some legal American resident who's willing to work under the table for less than minimum wage, I could care less.

I don't know of anyone paying less than minimum wages to the illegals, I do know some of the illegals at least $18 an hour. I thought your complaint was that small business owners ought to be able to hire illegals if illegals were the only people available to hire?
I don't know where you live, but here, if you're living to pay 18 bucks an hour, legal Americans would be lined up around the block to work for you, and you could drive to the Home Depot parking lot and pick up some illegal manual laborers for less than minimum wage.

Add in the millions who have dropped out of the chase for a job, and we are about 9.5% unemployed. Ask the black community in all the states if their community is at full employment. Maybe if whites are working Democrats think it is full employment. Exit polls again tonight suggested that the citizens are worried about jobs and the economy. How many state primary exit polls in a row that these two issues are at the top of their concerns? |

Of those some are changing jobs, some are moving, retiring, ill, on sabbatical, etc.
And to what I was specifying with hickle- there is a big divide between the southern part of our state (Maine) and the northern part. In the northern part I would readily agree with you. Many people are under employed and poverty is rampant, and Maine is in fact a poor state. However down here there are plenty of jobs going wanting- no people to fill them. We really are effectively at full employment here. And Maine is always behind the rest of New England....

there are studies done on this which show that workers without documents make approximately 40% less than those with documents. this actually kind of throws a wrench in the theory that "the only ones showing up" are undocumented, too- unless you consider the idea that the only ones willing to work for 40% less than the rest of us are in some kind of desperation that we will never know. |
