I have no barometer for furniture anymore. I'm skeptical of every store because I have no idea how to tell whether something is actually good quality, or whether it is just masked in all the right places and is still pressboard and glue at its heart. I know I can look for things like dovetailing and the feel of the wood in general. It just feels like furniture is one of those goods that is very easy to dress up to look expensive but not actually be. I'd hate the idea of paying premium prices for lower end junk.

I'll never buy Pottery Barn pillow shams again. The ironing never ends with those things. I don't iron mine It gives them a rustic look ETA: same with the bed skirt and duvet

I love!!! Pottery Barn! I have the Edison chandelier in our dinning room and I got the bad ass wine bottle opener for mothers day a couple years ago! I can't afford to shop there often, but when I can I do. I have some bed linens and stuff from there too. I keep the magazines I get in the mail and will decorate in similar style using lower end stuff from places like Hobby Lobby and Home Goods when I can't afford the good stuff.

I didn't want it because it was PB, but I needed to put that ridiculously large microwave somewhere and this PB cabinet matched our kitchen perfectly. Quality wise, the sides are MDF or composite-whatever. The top is solid wood. Compared to a similarly-styled cabinet that was in a bathroom and is now in our laundry room that I purchased from JCPenney, the PB cabinet's quality is far superior.

I have never shopped at any of those stores to even know what they sell. I think I walked by a restoration hardware once and thought they sold only used hardware things from demolished buildings. Until Carl started posting furniture I assume crate and barrel was dishes and pottery barn was pottery. Maybe they need better names so more people would look for things they sell.
