Looking for energy booster, mood improving natural remedies. Alcohol is not doing it anymore. So...moving to B12 or crape like that I had heard that Xanax goes well with white wine...anyone?

Take up running. Even if you never get that elusive runner's high you'll be distracted from all of your problems by being a sweaty, sun burnt, shin-splinty mess.

Never had an excersized in my life and all of a sudden almost at 50 running? I don't even KNOW HOW! Seriously how?

Or you can start juggling baby geese! That is a sure way to relax and have fun. The trick is not to drop any as they may die if you do so!

Dancing naked on table top does it for me. In private or public works.

Last summer I started riding a bicycle. When I was stressed or unhappy, I'd go ride my bike. Sometimes I thought I might ride to China if my body would let me. The most I ever actually rode was 20 miles though. I always felt better afterwards. Best of all, it was a healthy "escape" as long as I didn't fall and hurt myself. I slept better, felt better, and was motivated to eat better foods for my fuel.

Exercise is good for you. Strengthens your bones, tones the body and definitely boosts your mood. As for your age and exercise...give me a freaking break. I didn't learn to swim until I was forty. I started riding a bike competitively at age 54. And how do you not know how to run? You get fitted for good running shoes, put one foot in front of the other, and pretend Bigfoot is chasing your ass. You never ran or played outside as a kid? Of course alcohol does not boost your mood. It isn't supposed to. It's a depressant. And if you combine it with Xanax, we'll be reading about you in the Obits section of the paper.

I recommend walking over running just because of your/our age. Walking is awesome. It lets you decompress, exercise, and listen to music (at least I do) all at the same time. Our huge mall opens at 7 a.m. for mall walkers. It is safe and air-conditioned. It also allows you to window shop as you walk. As they used to say, "Try it! You'll like it!"

My foot is unstable and walking gets difficult for me. Just walking about the mall today was not comfortable. I can bike ride, I don't think you burn as many calories as walking does. I will try the treadmill but again the instability bothers me. But I do need the exercise so most likely will be the bikeriding. Perhaps you can do it too. Have you had physical therapy for your ankle? I'm getting physical therapy now for my bum knees, and they are also addressing a bad sprain from years ago that was never rehabbed, so that side has always been weaker and less stable. It's been only 3 weeks, but I'm already starting to feel results. I wish I had decided to do this years ago. It is possible that physical therapy will change my life.

After you are done with your run/walk/bike, try finding new, low cost crafts or arts to try out. This month seems to be full of them for me. I took a class on making a gem stone tree. Looks cute in my fairy garden, also a new hobby.
I took a class at our local library in pine straw basket making. Very engrossing and relaxing. I will go to the Basketeers get together in two weeks.
This week is beginning crochet. I used to know how but need slight instruction to get restarted. Free class through our local Y.
My raku pottery will be ready for firing on May 1. A friend introduced me to working with clay. I made 3 pieces. She has taken several classes from a mutual friend.
Our local college has an event called Arts Quest. They will do the firing of the raku for free. Also, tie dye tee shirts. Free lunch one day. Various free and low cost artsy type stuff.
To start your walk/run/bike plan, start very slowly since you are adverse to exercise. Around the block once. Next day twice and keep adding blocks. This way you will build up slowly and not injure anything.

I have had all kinds of rehab and therapy, its been that way since I was young, not much can be done. If they ever perfect a replacement ankle I will be first in line. Yeah, knee replacements are comparatively simple as they just basically bend one way. Ankles have a wider range of motion and are more vulnerable to damage, so it's been hard to devise a replacement ankle that is safe and reliable for the long term. I will think good thoughts for an ankle-replacement breakthrough for you.

Naturally running water. Find a creek, river or waterfall and go sit next to it under a shade tree with a picnic and a good book. The sound of water is something from our ancestors and humans find it soothing.

Exercise is the best way. I really need to get back into doing this myself. Not only did I have to go out and buy new shorts for the first warm day of the year today because I couldn't get last year's on to save my life, but I'm just not feeling great either, physically or mentally and I know it's because I've been a slug the past 6 months. I need a new hiking partner.

So, you want a quick fix. There aren't any. You subsist on cholesterol and inactivity. It's little wonder you have no energy. You need a complete lifestyle change.

With any luck, I'll make it 7! heh I did all that stuff when I was younger. Now I want to enjoy life. If doing exercise helps you enjoy your life, great. Enjoy it. I'll look for other ways to enjoy mine. Hey Loony- Want to make a blanket fort?

A friend of mine had an ankle replacement. I thought she was kidding when she told me she was having it done. I had no idea you could replace an ankle. I saw her a month out of surgery, using a cane, still in a walking cast, but doing pretty well. She is younger than you, but you are in better physical condition than her, I have to say. I have no idea what type of replacement it is, but if you want, I'll ask. Well said. It's not just about the exercise itself. You have to find something you love enough to do it regularly enough to make enough of a difference.

What?? I'm talking about a bad ankle, I am guessing you are answering something else.
Lol, men are stupid. Ok, let me clarify that to say, SOME men are stupid. Bike riding can be great exercise if you can tolerate it and you like it. You have to do any exercise at an intensity where you are actually sweating or working hard. I used to teach water aerobics years ago, and there was always a bunch of socializers who never did see results. If you can easily chat with your neighbor throughout the entire class, you are not trying hard enough! Loony, find something you like to do, really, you gotta get some kind of physical activity. And try to watch funny shows or movies, that always boosts my mood.

And try to watch funny shows or movies, that always boosts my mood. I've tried a few different forms of exercise and yoga and riding my bike were the ones I enjoyed enough to stick with them. Everything else was hard to stay motivated even when I saw reusults, because it felt like a chore. The first time I went to a yoga class I was amazed that I started sweating because it didn't seem like I was doing anything to work up a sweat moving slowly and just holding poses. Turned out I prefer slow to jumping around. Sometimes when I ride my bike, I do some of the things I learned to do with yoga.... pay attention to what muscles I'm using and what my body feels like when I do this or that. It's a way to get in tune with my body, imo you can learn a lot about yourself by exploring the mind money connection. I think it's hard to keep up with any physical activity unless it's something you actually like.
