So my sister is currently living with me and did so all of 2015.. She gave me $500 each month. I need to know if I need to report rent and how. She occupies 3 rooms (240 sqft). This includes the half bath. I own the house and it is1077 sqft total. Her excess possessions are stored in half of the basement. She also has room in the basement for her cat box. She has free use of the kitchen, living room, and laundry room. All utilities (gas, electric, cable and internet) are included. I also supply food for three meals a day and all household supplies.
It seems to me that she is reimbursing me for expenses but maybe not? If it is "rent" I need to know how to report. Schedule E points me to Schedule C because of the food expenses. Any help with this situation is appreciated. Thanks!

No, you do not have to report that as income. You have a roommate sharing living expenses.

No, you do not have to report that as income. You have a roommate sharing living expenses. Thank you! That makes sense to me.
