"Do you know what we get when AT&T buys T-Mobile? Permanent layoffs, a larger oligarchy and one less variable keeping fees down."
It looks like I picked a good time to own AT&T.

In trading today: VZ up 1.73% and now up another.52% after hours. T up 1.15% and now up another .28% after hours. Just saying...

"American Telephone and Telephone" doesn't actually own any assets any longer. It sold the technology component to an Israeli firm. The recent 4G upgrade was by contract. All you own is a platform run by legal beagles and MBA grads with huge compensation packages. AT&T was divested for the same reason it is attempting to acquire T-Mobile. Hey Frank... most of it's "departments" are down to a handful of near-retirement guys on 24-hour pager alert. The collective retained skills no longer cover all the potential crises. In short, much like the down-sizing nightmares of 1983... "T" can actually go "poof" if the right piece of equipment fails. GOOD JOB on your research, pal.
USAONE... be careful what you wish for. If fracturing occurs, you'll own a whole lot of nothing. When big shit splits, skill set quits, bureaucracy sits and somebody gets stuck with the tab-- that be you.

I think you don't know much about ATT or anything else when it comes to investing. Your comment regarding "departments" is nonsense, much like most of your post content. But continue on if it makes you feel better.

4G will be old news in a year or two. The difference now is the rate of technological advancement. There may be a new company in 2 years that comes up with something that makes 4g obsolete. That would kill the so called monopoly that exists today.
Things are much more fluid today than years ago.
Our economy is not going to go poof.

V_L technology has been eliminating jobs for over 100 years. Everyone used to be a farmer until technology/efficiency eliminated that.
Up until the 1930's when you went to make a phone call an operator would manually connect your call. Again technology eliminated all those jobs.
Whats happening today is nothing new. Our economy is always changing.

A. Frankq... I know the remaining humans in those departments. I also know those who were retired and rehired by the Israeli firm. Nobody worthwhile hires kids to do adult jobs, just to occupy window seats and to Twit. AT&T hasn't hired replacements for key jobs in 10+ years and there isn't a supply of turn-key talent out there due to certifications. You know nothing as always, my boy.
B. USAONE... indeed, technology in the hands of executives has been eating away at jobs most of the last Century (I read Price Pritchett too). If you read that stuff and actually look out your window, you can grasp that at one point it stopped eating jobs and started eating away at its own foundation. A lop-sided platform-- topples. Where will you be without a button to push? As for 3G 4G or 20,000G it tends to grow with the emphasis on photos to show not things to know that makes progress or the nation glow. You kid yourself about the "need" for technology that suppresses actual competence.

Well, we've seen a pretty standard blueprint for mergers/acquisitions in the past three years. A company buys another company that is not profitable. They lay off 1/3 of the workforce. The company is now profitable. While it still looks good on its books, before reduced service and inferior product drives the customer base away, they then sell the company at a profit to someone who can't see any further than the annual report.
Happens over and over again.

"I don't read Price Pritchett." I'm surprised... the pages are kept word-spartan and there are illustrations... just what the "modern" generation can handle. "Tech doesn't hurt competence." WRONG, as usual. If you have a process and a piece of technology AIDS you in that process, you do the work with assistance. If you have a process and a piece of technology replaces your involvement in that process, you become incompetent from a lack of exposure. Anyone adept at "apps" tends to lack any ability with applicable processes. "Happens over and over again." The definition of insanity. Mike C's post... The definition of idiocy.

My ex-Father-in Law was Vice President of AT&T and headed the breakup plan for the company and continurd on long afterwards. I have a long history of involvement with AT&T. I am still in contact with many people involved with the company, both old and new. The company is vastly different today than even 10 years ago. Your statement insinuating that the company is devoid of physical assets is ridiculous. AT&T has also made numerous aquisitions in the last few years including the physical assets of those companies including servers, switch gear, land lines, towers, buildings, etc. ATT is involved in things other than cell phones. You might want to look into it.

Maybe V.L. you could share some of your vast knowledge and tell us about the last three AT&T acquisitions and what assets were added to the company? Better yet, why don't you tell us what companies you think are good investments? After all, that's the primary reason we're all here.

AT&T no longer employs enough skilled personnel to resolve conflicts- should they arise. Can you PROVE anything you've written? The personnel numbers have been steadily falling without rehires. You can get those "stats" in the financials. What "value" is anything you invested in this discussion, Frankq? YOU spend ALL your time on these threads and ALL your responses are cranky. Are you a PAID POSTER?
Horse and buggy. Now you're on to something! The horse was a wonderful option because it didn't waste fuel. In fact, it produced bio-gradeable waste. That waste used to be shoveled up and sent to farms as fertilizer. Often on hot days, when what was in the hold decayed, the ship blew up from the generated gas. After that, they stored it in crates on the decks to mitigate the gas. On the sides of those crates was stamped: Ship High In Transit, which became abbreviated to S.H.I.T. and then the periods were removed. Early cars resembled buggies without horses. A form of them used today for urban and suburban travel would literally resolve every possible economy-suppressing issue we face. Restructuring our infrastructure to self-sufficiency is a nation mandate. It will be the SOLE PLATFORM for politics as we approach the coming elections. We don't need oil and we certainly don't need Corvettes. I suppose you own one to compensate for the shortfalls in the rest of your life or physical deficiencies because its certainly not a useful or common sense.

No their not V_L and they will stick to the sideline. See the big move on the debt dollar note index overnight? See Gold. And see SHAM WoW is wearing down as in no longer able to perform. Gamblers you say, Excerpt - Conclusion These organizations represent the collective interests of the largest corporations on earth. They not only retain armies of policy wonks and researchers to articulate their agenda and form a consensus internally, but also use their massive accumulation of unwarranted influence in media, industry, and finance to manufacture a self-serving consensus internationally. To believe that this corporate-financier oligarchy would subject their agenda and fate to the whims of the voting masses is naive at best. They have painstakingly ensured that no matter who gets into office, in whatever country, the guns, the oil, the wealth and the power keep flowing perpetually into their own hands. Nothing vindicates this poorly hidden reality better than a "liberal" Nobel Peace Prize wearing president, dutifully towing forward a myriad of "Neo-Con" wars, while starting yet another war in Libya. Likewise, no matter how bloody your revolution is, if the above equation remains unchanged, and the corporate bottom lines left unscathed, nothing but the most superficial changes will have been made, and as is the case in Egypt with International Crisis Group stooge Mohamed ElBaradei worming his way into power, things may become substantially worse. The real revolution will commence when we identify the above equation as the true brokers of power and when we begin systematically removing our dependence on them, and their influence on us from our daily lives. The global corporate-financier oligarchy needs us, we do not need them, independence from them is the key to our freedom. (taken from, March 23,2011 Naming Names: Your Real Government blacklistednews.com/Naming-Names%3A-Your-Real-Government/13170/0/27/27/Y/M.html)The scope/magnitude is immense and as long as the tally keeps taking it's toll, you can count on the vast majority that have left the market never to return.

Holy shit! Did you get Mid to write that response for you? Can YOU PROVE anything you've written? I can. You can get the "stats" on tangible assets in the financials too. What value do you add to ANY discussion V.L.? None. Another bitter dimwit that missed the boat on the market move and has to qualify it by stating nonsense.
