I am trying to do our taxes through TaxCut. Dh got both a W2 and a 1099 from his employer. I input all the information just as it is on the forms. On his W2, the box for "Statutory Employee" was checked. After all the information was put in, I ran the error check, and got back a message stating: I don't understand what I did wrong. The amount on his 1099 ($208) does not match the amount on his W2 ($8900) at all. Does this mean we are missing some forms, or did I put in the information wrong? I was really hoping I could figure this out, but maybe I just need to throw in the towel & pay someone lots of $$ to file for us

I used turbo tax online and had to select an option that reflected the 1099 was an additional income form. I don't remember exactly how, but I think it was when I was going through the various questions about income. Does Tax Cut have a summary format? A lot of times, I've noticed if you look at the summary function it will list missing steps.

Sam, we've got a tax board here too. You can check with them. They were really helpful to about a tax question DH and I had.

I tried tax cut and then went back to turbo tax. Tax cut seems to be a pain for non W-2 earners, IMO.

Gin - I might give that a try before I just give in. I have looked at that stupid thing so many times, and I have no idea what I was doing wrong.
Beth - I asked over there, but they just told me what forms I need to do it. Oh well.

I have no advice Sam but I just wanted to say good luck!! If you are really stuck, it might be worth it to go have someone do it for you, then you'll know what to do next year for sure.

Oh my goodness, Gin. I could give you a giant hug right now!! Switching over to Turbo Tax made all the difference. I was able to do our taxes in under 2 hours, including both states. I can't believe how much easier it was, and how much more helpful it was!! THANK YOU!

No problem, I had problems with them myself and went back to turbo tax and it worked for me so I though it might for you.
