I would recommend staying away from the series of Republican and Democratic Presidential debates. I was disinterested after the first show of each.

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. It's based on a book series and is set in Australia in the late 1920's. The costumes are breathtakingly beautiful, the 'murders' are clever and the dynamic between the main characters is wonderful. I started off watching and enjoying the series but by the 4th or 5th episode I was completely hooked. Best thing I've seen on television in years. I so hope they make a 4th season.

Big Love is pretty good, I binge watched the first couple seasons then got distracted.
Jeeves and Wooster is a good period series with a very young Hugh Laurie (from House).

If you like historical drama I am into Turn: Washington's Spies on AMC.
It's heavily character driven so it seems slow at the start but it gets REALLY good. I can't wait for the third season.
I'm so into it I made DH watch Mysteries at the Museum in the other room. The episode contained information about one of the characters in the show and I didn't want to know what the outcome for the character is.

If you like British shows, Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch is excellent. I think it's on Netflix.
Or if you like less fast paced British shows, Netflix has like a jillion seasons of Midsummer Murders - murders take place in the charming British countryside that must have a murder rate of like 1 in 100. Always a little humorous and only the nasty people who deserve it end up getting killed.
For a version of Downton Abbey set back in a time when the royalty could still chop off your head, the Tudors.
and also Henry Cavill.

But it'll only take you the weekend to catch up and have to wait for all eternity for the next season.

Firefly for Sci-Fi"ish" Leverage for campy confidence game players Crossing Lines is international crime fighting (not enough episodes in my opinion!), but I like William Fichtner BBC's Sherlock is my absolute favorite & again, not enough episodes made yet! Call the Midwife (suggested by someone else already) is really fun for the first couple seasons, then it gets a little repetitive. Peaky Blinders - my mom loves this one, but I didn't really get into it. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt - ridiculous and funny, so for really light and silly watching, this is an awesome Tina Fey produced show. Last Tango in Halifax - charming but a bit silly english program

Most of what I watch is on Netflix or Amazon Prime. For drama, Bloodline is great! Can't wait for the next season. The Newsroom Narcos (much better if you've read "Killing Pablo") Plus Orange Is the New Black, House of Cards, Hand of God, etc.

Best things I saw last year were probably Poldark and Dr Foster.
Getting a bit bored of Game of Thrones.....they just seem to be wandering about.

Watching Madame Secretary now. I admire how closely it is written to real life -- it is essentially a behind-the-scenes view of the headlines. Satisfies my inner international policy wonk. ;-)

Jeeves and Wooster is a good period series with a very young Hugh Laurie (from House). I loved this! Haven't seen it in ages - will have to find it again to show to the kids. Actually, the jazz music Hugh Laurie plays may hook DH, too. I just saw that some episodes were filmed in Highclere Castle.

Murdoch mysteries for a clean period piece.
I just started Dexter- and I'm disgustingly hooked.

Orange is the New Black is terrific
Z Nation Walking Dead iZombie
Spartacus is unbelievably great.
Currently watching The IT Crowd, which is British. I'd like it a lot more if it didn't have a laugh track.

The episode "Work Outing" had me laughing so hard it hurt. DH and I have actually watched that episode a few times and we cry with laughter even though we know what's about to happen.

I couldn't seem to appreciate it as much as he did.

I tried Spartacus but just couldn't get into it. Hmmm, lots of hand-to-hand combat, lots of politics, medieval military tactics, lots of sex, dialogue actually translated from the lyrical form they would have spoken at that time, whats not to like? I actually thought they did a terrific job showing why the Roman Empire had to eventually collapse, and why a system of slavery is ultimately doomed in a so-called 'civilized' society.
