Hello
I was forced to sell some stock earlier this year due to a company being purchased and the new owners choosing to be privately held
I did not receive a lot of money on this sale, ($5000), but everything I researched deemed it to be a fair price for my 88 shares
My problem arises from the fact that my "purchases" were made through payroll deductions somewhere in the vicinity of 1983-1991 and I apparently retained no paperwork from that period
How can I find out (or estimate) my purchase price?
Also, will I receive a 1099 form and approximately when? I believe the required by date to be 2/15
If you need more information (company names, etc.) I can provide
thanks for your help

Do you recall (or can you find out from the employer) how much with withheld each paycheck and for how long? If so, that would be the answer to your basis question.
Public companies usually have a place on their websites entitled "shareholder relations" or something to that affect. You might be able to find information there.

thanks for the reply tax ref
your suggestion was my first thought.
the company stock was Consolidated Freightways and they somehow converted the stock to Con-Way when CF declared bankruptcy
I have been onto the both the CF and Conway websites, and they are defunct - now the link brings you to XPO logistics who is the purchasing company
I did send an e mail request to them, but am doubtful
I also intend to call Compushare who handled the sales transactions
other than that I guess I declare -0- and hope for a taxr ate of 15%
Appreciate your response
