If you have one, don't forget to sign up for the Q2 5% reward catagories. Chase usually sends me an e-mail but did not this time. 5% back for home improvement, lawn& garden, and home furnishings April through June.

yeah, thanks! It's that time already again? I just activated mine. We need a new lawn mower, so this will be an extra $10 off! Why not?

They have started texting me reminders, I guess I must have signed up for that. I get a text, reply with "bon", and immediately get another text congratulating me for signing up. No trophy or parade in my honor, though.

Not to be greedy or anything, but what sucks that it's only on the 1st $1500 and that's it.

Lena -
Check your past statements - they sometimes "forget" to stop rewarding you extra at $1500+

I think the $1500 is pretty generous compared to Discover where the limits are frequently only a couple of hundred dollars. When I had the Discover gas card (where you got 5% back on gas and car repairs) the 5% was only up to $100/month. That is like 2 tanks of gas now and how many car repairs are less than $100?? Completely worthless!

As I understand it, that $1500 limit is for the 5%. There is no limit, I think, to the 1% reward....

Lena - Check your past statements - they sometimes "forget" to stop rewarding you extra at $1500+ Maybe, but sometimes they also forget to do the 5%. I had to call twice in the past. One time, they added the correct points, and on top, added 2,500 points "for the inconvenience". Heck, that's 25 bucks! But you have a good point, it's worth it to check the points balance. Chase does not seem to have a good grip on it ....

They can advertise the 5%, but not necessarily have to pay it to everyone. I've just redeemed $200 in rewards for a $250 check, so I'm still pretty happy with Chase Rewards.

AARRGGHH! - This makes me so stabby! I also have a friend who still has this. Every time I call Chase about it they tell me the $250 for $200 has been phased out - why do they lie?

We lost the $250 for $200 sometime last summer. I do get annoyed when I hear that some folks still have it. I wonder what their criteria were? Doesn't make much difference. We just shifted the majority of our spending to a different card with better rewards.

Is the Freedom Plus card the one that you pay an annual fee of $30 and you get 3% rebates as well for 6 categories of everyday spending?

Yes, except in my case I didn't have to pay an annual fee for some reason or other, I can't remember. I know that Platinum Premier customers don't have to pay the fee either, but I didn't have enough assets at Chase to qualify for that status.

We just shifted the majority of our spending to a different card with better rewards. The $250 for $200 is nice. I have never had that perk with my freedom card. Weird. But really, it turns the 1% into 1.25%. Not bad, but 2% is still better. :-) Of course, it also turns the 5% promo into 6.25%, but then there is the $1,500 limit .... Overall, the straight 2% Fidelity card is a nice and hassle free solution: no promo sign ups, no checking that it was calculated correctly, no check requesting (once you reach $50 it's deposited automatically), no limits to watch, etc .....
