Anyone watching this one? It's on after Downton Abbey, some of you MUST be. I'm liking it so far. I've almost adapted to seeing Ted from How I Met Your Mother doing something different. lol

I keep meaning to watch but it's on so late. Now that you told me Ted is in it, I don't know if I can. Ted has a stupid face.

It's covered in a beard, if that helps.

I am watching it. I don't love it, but there's not much else on at 10pm Sunday nights. It's fine ... just not grabbing me.

It's covered in a beard, if that helps. I paid attention to the commercial and saw the Ted beard last night. It is not enough!

Any particular reason or it just never really captured you? It has no competition in my house, I've never been a fan of Sunday night tv. Unless it's on PBS. Lol

I think I don't really care about most of the characters ~ so the storylines aren't grabbing me. I've watched every episode thus far, but if I miss one, I don't think I'd hunt it down on Demand...

I can't say I have any great affection for any of the characters, and yet, three of sit and watch fascinated every episode. (Me, DH, and DS)

I would just like some more backstory about the main character, even. Where is she from? What is she like? How did she end up there? What exactly happened to her dead husband? Did she leave an empty house behind? Family, etc? Has she always wanted to be a nurse? (It was NOT a noble profession back then) ... you know, details!
Oh well. It's only a mini-series and it's half over ... but still.

Re-reading the episode synopses helps some ...
EPISODE 1 ... New England widow Mary is sent as new head nurse to an Alexandria hotel owned by the Southern Green family which is repossessed as a Union military hospital, much to their disliking. Doctors Hale and Foster disagree on the use of modern medicine and whether to treat Confederate wounded soldiers with the same attention. Green daughter Emma sneaks into the hospital to acquire news about her "beau" Frank Stringfellow and finds Tom Fairfax. Samuel Diggs secretly performs an emergency surgery, covered up by Mary.
EPISODE 2 ... Samuel is attracted towards Aurelia, a contraband slave, but she is abused by the despotic hospital steward Silas Bullen, who also gets into an argument with Mary about the treatment of the patients. Emma is accepted as a volunteer nurse, and her little sister Alice learns that her beau Tom is a patient, yet in a desolate psychological state. Anne feels threatened in her position by Mary and resorts to drinking. She plots against Mary with her lover Dr. Hale. Confederate slave hunters search for contraband slaves even though they are free in Alexandria, and Jimmy convinces his father to turn a blind eye on them to avoid trouble.
EPISODE 3....Jed passes passes his military medical exam. He has to treat his wounded brother. Mary discovers his morphine addiction and wants to help him through withdrawal. As Silas is not providing enough meals for the patients, Mary decides to start cooking herself. Aurelia is pregnant from Silas. Tom is still suffering and working with Henry. Frank arrives posing as a dentist, while he is stealing military plans from the union soldiers. The union soldiers demand an oath of allegiance from the Greens, but James decides against it.

Hmmm....
I don't expect that much backstory at the beginning, I expect it to flow along with the current story I guess. Never really thought about it. I know things will come out as it goes.
