Is it even going to be safe to drive anywhere at 4? I know we are a bit ahead of you in storm progress but it is already snowing pretty good.

I can't find the explanation of what happened, does anyone mind filling me in? The last I read Carl was on the upper management track with this company.

What is it with this employer making him drive in blizzards? What sort of awful employer would make someone drive in a blizzard to be told you are fired. If that is what happens, then I think being fired would be a blessing.

So I didn't get the job I wanted. I applied for a bunch more today. Maybe I can go be an assistant for someone until I find the job I really want. I know plenty of agents.

In that case it probably is better to just get it over with. Once again, good luck.

Carl was placed on paid admin leave last week for something commonly done by all the managers in the chain. They're either making an example to all managers on this or they are gunning for Carl.

I'm sorry Carl.
It sounds trite but good riddance. It's ridiculous what they have accused you of in the past few months, nobody should have to put up with that kind of crap.

So sorry, Carl! As much as it sucks, hopefully knowing the outcome will allow you to move forward with your job search more easily. Good luck to you-I'm sure you'll land on your feet.

Now I know... I was terminated! Moving forward and hopefully onward! Sorry about the termination. I understand that isn't a pleasant thing even when it's for the best. Fortunately, you've got the attitude it takes to just move forward without looking back and the loss will be theirs.

TheHaitian, I am sorry. I would definitely see a lawyer. You said you could and would file an appeal if I remember correctly. I know you will make this work out for you.

I'm sorry. At least you know now. See a lawyer and appeal. Good luck with your other interviews.

I hope this all works out for the best. Being unemployed is rough and it really made me and my fiance sit down and figure out what is really important to us. Still, overall it has been a good thing for us. It sounds like you have had a lot of interviews, so something should come through soon.

I am still considering seeing a lawyer next week! Yeah! F them in their giant aholes! Sorry they terminated you. It is utter bullshit all you did for them (driving in a snowstorm for an interview, moving multiples times) and they just treated you like shit. But, at least you now have closure. I hope your next employer is much better!

I'm sorry to hear that, Carl. This truly sucks for you but it sounds like you have some good lines on jobs. I hope the local one pans out for you. <fingers and toes crossed>

I'm sorry Carl. If it makes you feel any better, you aren't alone. I was let go from my part-time job today. Truthfully it isn't a big loss as it was incredibly boring but still, it smarts. It was something to do in the afternoon. Good thing is it now gives me the time to work on my resume and brush up on some more useful skills than scanning bills into the computer. I am still employed in my full-time job so no worries there.

I am still considering seeing a lawyer next week! It certainly can't hurt to at least have a consultation. If you were terminated for an oversight that commonly happens with other managers (and you can show that it happens with other supervisors and managers without consequences to them), it is very possible that you COULD file an unlawful termination suit.
In short, companies can have policy and procedure handbooks from here to Doomsday, but guess what? In the legal arena, a company's "pattern and practice" is considered to be just as compelling as its written word - and sometimes even MORE compelling. As a matter of fact, when I worked in HR we were routinely advised at HR trainings and seminars that the only thing worse than not having written policies and procedures was having them but not following them. Or following them on a selective basis. That is the basis for a claim of "disparate treatment." In short, if you can prove you were treated differently than other supervisors and managers for the same offense, you may be "on" to something.
Only a good lawyer with training in employment law can really help you walk through this one. Often just the threat of a lawsuit can cause a company to soften its stance and even cough up some additional separation wages. In exchange for those wages, however, they may make you sign some additional documentation promising you will "drop it here" and take no further legal action. If you get into this type of negotiation with the company (through your lawyer), be sure to negotiate the terms of your departure - as in, in exchange for dropping a lawsuit or potential lawsuit, they will list your departure as a resignation, not a termination. That often helps to make interviewing less awkward with fewer explanations.
And only you can decide if this is worth pursuing or if you'd rather stick a fork in it and move on.
ETA: paging Tennesseer . I think he worked in HR for quite a while ? ? and may have words of wisdom to add.
Good luck whatever you decide.
