Great, so how far do we let them backslide towards stone age barbarism before we stop giving them a pass because they were enlightened several hundred years ago? What's the statute of limitations on enlightenment and scientific advancement? we should work on our own backsliding first, before we start lecturing others.

Don't disagree at all, but the thread was about immigration. When it comes to allowing people into the country I don't think it's completely out of line to consider what the culture they're coming from is like.
I have daughters and a wife that don't cover their faces or hair. If my government is going to let a hardcore muslim nutjob in that's going to try and beat or stone the women in my family because they're not showing proper respect to Allah I have a huge problem with that. Any American should.
I'm not saying keep all the refugees out, I'm saying there's some merit to the argument that they should be screened, and I can completely see valid reasons for keeping the most militant and backwards ones out, even if they don't have ties to any terrorist groups.

... What's the statute of limitations on enlightenment and scientific advancement? 750 years. You're welcome.

Don't disagree at all, but the thread was about immigration. When it comes to allowing people into the country I don't think it's completely out of line to consider what the culture they're coming from is like. i kinda do. but this is a much broader discussion than i intend on having with you, or anyone else here.I have daughters and a wife that don't cover their faces or hair. If my government is going to let a hardcore muslim nutjob in that's going to try and beat or stone the women in my family because they're not showing proper respect to Allah I have a huge problem with that. Any American should. immigrants have to abide by our laws. period. they will get no favor in the courts if they fail to do so.I'm not saying keep all the refugees out, I'm saying there's some merit to the argument that they should be screened, and I can completely see valid reasons for keeping the most militant and backwards ones out, even if they don't have ties to any terrorist groups. there are many that feel that our screening is adequate. there are some that don't. i am fine with having that debate- as long as it is "fair", to use Trump's words.
