I would go back north but it is freaking cold the last two weeks!

Weather in FL is not great ALL the time.
Tornadoes happen but are usually much less damaging than in other parts of the country. It rains some in winter but usually not the dreary overcast weak long rains. It even snowed once in the 70s in Miami.
Overall the weather is just so much nicer than the rest of the country in winter.
I am native Floridian, lived in GA for 32 years and now in AL. Would love to go back to FL someday.

We had tornadoes here December 23-killed about 14 people all within a 35 mile area of here. Alabama, December 25th. Winter and spring are the south's major tornado season. Summer, rarely ever.

Local weather news stations make it sound sort of unusual for here in January. It has to do with rapid cold fronts coming through from off the gulf coming inland, cutting into the cold fronts. I also saw where El Nino has a little to do with it, as the winds are coming across the gulf clashing with the cold fronts, rather than usually down from the north in a direct pattern. Today partly sunny, very windy70 degrees and temp will drop from that.

If the days are warm here in the winter, say in the 60s-low 70s, and there is Gulf of Mexico humidity/high dew point along with a cold front/low pressure system coming in from the SW, W, or NW, we here can expect severe weather, be it thunder or tornadic storms. Checking in from Tampa. We had a big storm and winds last night. Everything is fine except for some debris from trees in road. Sunny and cooler this morning.

Florida doesn't have a specific tornado time. Actually I believe most of our tornadoes are usually associated with hurricanes. Our weather has been a bit bipolar this winter though.

Colder than billy h in Tampa today and no end in sight. Still sunny though. Got a call from my alarm company up north in Michigan. Cold in furnace room. Well, my neighbor is in Phoenix until Thursday so hopefully no disaster until he can check it out.

My bday is at the end of the month and sometimes it's utterly freezing (like high in the 40s) and other times I can hang out in the water on it. I think the average is like 74 in central Florida. North Florida it gets cold.

Locals in winter coats, Snowbirds in shorts and short sleeve shirts Thermostat is showing 71 degrees right now with windows closed all day.

Low forties is much better!
Even Key West only hit 64 today.

I'm flipping freezing! 54* outside, 76* inside and my toes are frozen. I'm going to have to bust out the socks. I think I can blame some of it on being sick though...

Was watching a cable news station this morning and they had a national map showing 7 degrees for Atlanta. My wife even commented on it at the time.

I just can't imagine Atlanta being that cold when we were over 20F for a low.

I am wondering if they were showing windchills on the national map at the time. www.weather.com/weather/today/l/Atlanta+GA+USGA0028:1:US

I was in Miami at the time, and while we got a monsoon down there, it was nothing like the rest of the state. At our humble abode, we lost a number of palm fronds, but that was about it.

What you may have seen was the dew point. I think ours was around 7, or so.
