After 20 years here, I have decided to leave. I mentioned a year ago that the place was up for sale. The environment is so toxic, I can't take it anymore.
So all you accountant types, give me some key phrases. I've been really struggling. I want to just say "I Frick in do it all".
Manage a staff of three and oversee all ar/ap/payroll/hr functions. Do all general ledger and financial reporting. Various state taxes an government reporting. Edi
You get the picture. Please help me fluff that up.

Take a look at the jobs you're interested in and use the same key words that you see come up in the postings.

I have the same job! I have worked on my resume but I have never finished it. It is my understanding that sending old fashioned cover letters/resume's is dead. If an employer wants you to apply on line - that is what you need to do. I will look when I get home where I was at in construction my resume.
I have preliminarily set myself up on linked in - so you could peak at my resume...but I have not looked for a job in 8 or 9 years, so you definitely need to look at other's advice.
I have periodically been contact by headhunters, so it must be ok. I just don't respond b/c I am not really looking for a job.
Or maybe not. I just went back to Linked in and tweaked my profile. I sent a few friend requests and accepted a new one. Can you look at other individuals profiles if you are not an employer? I was looking at my niece's profile but I don't think I was seeing the whole thing. I send a request to my cousin with a similar background, so If she accepts I will know better what I am looking at.

What I've had hiring managers/HR like is that at the top of my resume I have two columns with 1-2 word bullets listing my skills. They said they sometimes get 1000s of applications a day for a job and having exactly what I can do in a neat little list at the top helps them better scan thru my resume and makes them more likely to pick me.
I change the skills listed depending on the job. Some I choose to highlight and some I choose to take off.
The body of my resume then goes into greater detail about what is i can do. My resume is currently two pages long which they said is acceptable, especially since i have been working for 10 years. They said try not to have more than 3 pages.

I'm sort of vaguely thinking bout maybe starting to consider a change. I started reading a site called askamanager.org - so much great advice on interviews, resumes and cover letters! Check it out!

What's the timeline on the liquidation?
You are being very proactive here, Abby, I'm sure you will be fine. If the company does go into liquidation, most of your colleagues will be worried about severance pay and getting unemployment, not their next jobs.
IF it even happens, you'll be way ahead of the pack.

Also, some of the headhunting agencies have advice on how to do your resume. Don't know how good their advice is but I remember seeing it, so you might want to look on those websites.
What I do know (big help lol) is color is accepted now, but it has to be discreet and in good taste.
Also (obviously) get somebody you trust to proof / edit your resumé. It needs to have ZERO mistakes.
I know that sounds stupid but I work in a business school and the amount of errors is just astonishing, both in the students' resumes and the university's job ads (in English).
