TheHaitian : First of all commendations on joining the savers board! being at over 20% of goal!! AND striving for the 2015 Roth!!! Second, my opinion on your goal being $50K or more comes from someone whose income level and many other things (age) are much different from yours. I'm guessing your income is close to $150K per year. You are new at your job which means you have room and time for that to grow. Depending on your DW's income you could fairly soon be ineligible for the Roth contributions? Based on that I would try very hard to maximize all the Roth(s) while you can. IMHO the Roth is THE BEST IRA. Get it if and while you can. Third, As far as reaching or "missing" a goal... if you accomplish $50K saved against a $60K goal that is over 83% achieved!!!! I'm guessing that in your industry you have goals of over 100%, like this year must be 105% of last year?? Your personal savings goals is a different thing from that and also from the debt elimination over at the racers board. It's OK to not reach a goal. It's also OK and common to tweak the savings goals throughout the year.
Personally, My first year on the savers' board my goals were very simple and I reached 100%, second year I reached for more and ended up @94% which also made me happy, in this 3rd year I've set them high for me, and will be surprised if I get all the way to 100% but for me it's still a good idea to "reach". Shoutout to all the WIR Savers: We were already "saver" or "saver want to be" before we joined here but now we are savers who have chosen an extra layer of "accountability" and the company of other dedicated savers. Keep up the good work... I love this savers board most of all the boards and threads...thank you for your work and the pattern you have set here seriousthistime

Saving4Norway congratulations on $1500 more in progress and your new rose. Have you begun to try the Marie Kondo method of tidying up? shanendoah You are right on pace for the year at 17.2%!!! And enjoying a Disney vacation without going off track is TRULY fun! TheHaitian Congratulations on your new job. At this point you are mathematically on target for either $50K or $60K. Use the goal that motivates you best and as one saver said "adjust for adjustments". I see in your profile that you are the lovely age of 30...ahhh....very helpful to be implementing all these savings with plenty of time for growth! (though regardless of age, today is probably the best day to save). bankergurl You do an awesome job and set a good example of finding new avenues of income! Congratulations on your 2 new 's. I am looking forward to your achievement of paying off your mom early. How are things going with property managing for your parents?
teachermom Congratulations on your beautiful bouquet of 5 's. You are also doing so well at creative sources of income. It's motivating to see your progress. How is FPU going?
movinonup Nice work earning your cool guy.
(s)he is one of my favorite emoticons. Your progress may feel slow but you seem to be building momentum. Good job cash flowing the trips. Ombud Congratulations on getting your 1st this year! And on winning your debt race!! A happy surprise that DD paid you back. That seems to be a good outlook on the part of a lot of the WIR savers....not counting on uncertain monies, but knowing exactly how to use them if they materialize. Are you still cash flowing home updates? azucena YEA for passing your final actuarial exam!!! Your snowball is going to be a-ma-ZING! At 71.7% and the next star on the horizon, or maybe you'll pump up your goals in light of your new well-deserved earnings level?? Rocky Mtn Saver Congratulations on earning your winky ! That is also one of my favorite emoticons. Oh heck, I just love the emoticons minnesotapaintlady Six 's and only need 4 more to have your bouquet completed! You have had an awesome month with different snowflakes and snowballs landing at once! Yea for having the cash ready for replacing the car whenever necessary...If you're savings is the indicator of what FPU can do, I need to get myself there! Go ahead and bask in that glow scrgrl47 Good work pumping up your savings by over $3K It's unfortunate that the company bonuses look more like 5% than 10%, but it's so good that you are a saver. I would guess that some of your co-workers count on that bonus & they may stuggle because of it. Have you heard anything more about the timing on your promotion? I notice your % met on all your goals is pretty consistent. Is that something you aim for or just coincidence?? megaptera Yahoo for being "pert near" halfway to goal! And earning 2 roses! Since you will continue adding to the car and house funds, have you thought of bumping the goals up a bit? You can earn even more smilies Jaguar It's always good to see you, and updating is good even if it's lower. It's one way of "getting back on the horse" and ready to ride again. I'm glad you're enjoying your Tempurpedic mattress...quality sleep is priceless. seriousthistime Plodding along is movement too...with forgiveness requested for borrowing from poet Robert Browning: Grow old Plod along with me...the best is yet to be snapdragon I hope things went well with the CPA...looking forward to your mid-March update
Also looking forward eagerly to seeing chiver, speechchick, Paulette, gracendignity, and tobinikui. Special shoutouts also to sealy and bubbleepink : throw a dollar in the jar and update...we're eager to see you too

Thank you for putting it in perspective for me and yes in my industry you need to meet or beat your goals, so anything below 100% is unacceptable But yeah even 80% of $60,000 is a healthy $48,000 and I cannot really Complain about it, that is money I did not have at the beginning of the walk!

minnesotapaintlady That is great that he went with you and got something from it. There is no way my ex would have gone. I am not sure if he has learned anything or not.....assuming no, since he still owes me $5k in back support from when he was laid off work 5 yrs ago. Probably could take him to court but instead I just hassle him and when I get it....bonus!! Goes to savings. My ex keeps bugging me to drop my child support case against him. He says our kids are grown so he shouldn't be paying. He still owes 54K in back payments.

It is court ordered child support, right? If he is in arrears he is in violation of a court order. Of course you shouldn't drop it. You may never collect it all, but you should certainly go after it.
You basically fronted him $54,000 to support the kids you have together. No reason you should not collect that now.
Say you buy a car from someone. You agree to pay them so much per month until it's paid for. You sell the car. You don't get to say, "well, I don't have the car anymore so why should I pay you for it?" Not exactly the same, I know, but you get the idea.

Tobinikui ER Fund: $3,800.00 (2016 Start $4,134.17, Goal $5,000) Current: 76.0%
(Went backwards, unfortunately!)
Hi all - I have several pages of reading to catch up on. This year's financial goals have been blown to bits by the VERY early arrival of our baby girl. She was born unexpectedly, 12 weeks early, after I was diagnosed with severe pre-eclampsia in late January. Baby girl is already 4+ weeks old, and is really doing VERY well, thankfully. She will stay in the NICU for another 2 months or so, but thankfully, so far, so good!
In any event, my maternity leave time, and carefully calculated wage reduction plan has been decimated by this new turn of events. So, for right now, I will be happy if our savings just stays approximately where it is. I am hoarding cash, and letting the credit card balance (at 0% interest) slowly creep up. I will be back to work, at 100% pay, well before the 0% interest period ends, so I think we should be okay. (Famous last words, right?)
Either way, this year is going to be much tighter financially, than we had otherwise expected. But by the end of the year, things should even out. I am just thrilled that Baby Girl is doing so well!!
Thanks, and keep up the good work everyone!

I am glad to hear that Baby Girl is doing well. So at this point she is 8 weeks early... and my oldest was 4 weeks early, so once you reach that milestone maybe you can breathe a sigh of relief. I hope so, anyway.
My advice, for what it's worth, don't sweat the money this year. If you can pay your bills, that's enough. Saving extra is not as important as other things this year.

I got a bid for the front yard @ $1950 but the measurement is for a 24" wide walkway. I think 36" is better so hoping it won't really jump up. Labor shouldn't be that much higher but materials will. And yes, still cash flowing.
Vacation will be light. DS surgery is end of April, 3 months without walking, then slow recovery so he can't do whitewater, cruise, basically anything

MO got his coaching check today! YEAH! It was almost $500 more then we expected so that was great news. It was $2493, so he put $2400 into our savings, and then the $93 he used to pay 2 big weeks for the 52 Week Challenge for 2016. We now have that paid up to the current week, plus weeks 48, 49, 50, 51 and 52 are also paid so when we get to the end of the year that will be a breeze!
We made our total savings deposits goal for the year! YEAH!
Even though we are able to put a lot in savings, it seems like every month there is some +$1000 plus bill that comes up that we have to use savings to pay for and so I feel like we are just treading water with the total...but I guess as long as we aren't adding any debt then we are still going in the right direction! We will still keep socking it to savings and see where we are at after our vaca in April regarding savings total after vaca/paying off Mom Loan to see if we want to adjust our savings/debt goals at all.
Current Deposits = $10,478.00 +$25.00 MO Payday to Our Savings +$3.73 Cap 360 Interest +$26.27 Even Out Amount +$55.00 Coin Jar +$2400.00 MO Coaching Check +$11.00 52 Week Challenge Week #11 +$50.00 52 Week Challenge Week #50 +$49.00 52 Week Challenge Week #49 +$48.00 52 Week Challenge Week #48 Total Deposits for 2016 = $13,146.00
Banker Gurl : 3/8/16 $13,146.00 (1/1/16 $0, WIRS1) Goal - Contribute $12,000

Saving4Norway: Hi! This is off topic but I see you have a "Santiago 2019" category. I'm assuming that's for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage walk?? I'm leaving May 25th with my sister-in-law and my BFF to do the walk--just 3 old gals strutting our stuff, LOL! I've actually wanted to do this trek since I first heard about it (back in the 70's!).

I just today realized that I did not update my savings for the month of February. It's been a bit of a zoo around here lately, so I'll just blame it on that. I won't post my updates for last month since we are well into March, but I did put the money aside. I'll just do it at the end of this month and be all impressed with the big jump in my percentage met.
Over the course of February I finally, at long last, got to move into my new digs. It was supposed to be done last October so I was going a bit nuts with the constant delay. It was worth it, though. All new construction so everything is shiny and new. Plenty of room for me and my quilting. I have tried to be frugal and thoughtful with my purchases, and I haven't gone over my allotted amount--so far. lol! I still need to get my work area formally set up (I work from home and I'm using a temporary set up that is working okay for now) I need 2 area rugs and I don't have anything on the walls yet, but that really doesn't bother me at this point. Once I get the work area finished, my temporary set up will move to my quilting room and I'll do the last bit of unpacking in there. It has been sheer heaven to sit at my machine and piece quilts again after a year-long hiatus. I think I shed a tear or two the first night. lol!
I had a major computer crash, so spent $$$ getting that back up and running. I will definitely need a new laptop for back up so I'm not left hanging in the wind next time. I work from home on my computer so a dependable computer with a reliable back up are pretty necessities. On the work front, it is picking back up again. Thank goodness! It was getting pretty desperate. Since the first of the year I've been given 2 new accounts. One is a breeze and the other isn't but I'm glad to have the work.
The organization to whom I applied for a grant to take my new course approved me for about 55% of my cost. I am so pleased! I could do it anyway and pay my own way, but this is wonderful. I will be starting it in early April if all goes well.
The divorce is STILL not final but we are getting closer. I think the DH has gotten the message that I'm not going to be patient much longer. I moved out a year ago this month and it is way past time to finish it up. It is still a goal to have the final decree by my birthday which is the middle of next month. We will see if that happens.
I haven't been around the boards much lately but now that it is settling down in my life a bit I will have to catch up. Congrats to everyone who is meeting their savings goals or even just making progress. It all adds up at the end of the day, right?

I posted this in the Racer thread just in case I'll post it here too.
I have received my 10th check. I was going to put the whole check on my CC. But now I'm not so sure. I still owe $5,572 on my CC#1. The check is $1665.29. No payment is due yet. I could put it in the house fund account and make an extra payment at the end of this month. I could put it in my EF. The last thing I want to do is do nothing and let it slowly disappear. What would you do?

Sealy, what about dividing it among the 3 accounts? Or even just 2 of them? If I were making that choice, if my EF was lacking, I would feel more comfortable putting the money there, but that is just my take on things.

Yes, that's what it is. How cool that you're going!! And fabulous that you're going as a group of 3. I'll be eager to hear all about it. Do you plan on doing a blog? Where are you starting? How long do you plan to be gone? Ummm, how can I ask you all these questions without distracting the Savers board?

Thank you all so much. I think I might just add it to my EF.
I think splitting it would the way nidena said would be good. I want to be sure I dont use my CCs again.
