Wow! Just read through everyone's goals.....going to be a great year for the savers. Still working on mine and figuring out what is doable for me this year. Will post when I have it ironed out.

Been giving this a lot of thought......I always seem to make it so difficult and then get no where. I need to start over as I have nothing saved and no EF. Also, I know I need to save for some basics, like tires, gifts, etc. I also really need to redo my roof and have a plumbing issues that will need to be fixed. We are also taking a trip on spring break and this summer. Not sure where to get started, so going to throw out some numbers to get started and see how it goes!!! Getting started is the first step, right?? Will update after I pay bills and figure out where I am at. I have some $$$ I got for xmas and some extra hours/pay on my check so will be a larger amount than normal but glad I have it!!! OK...me again. Decided since I was working on my goals, best to keep at it and get financial stuff in order and pay bills. Hadn't looked at my checking account and balanced it.....find a wonderful surprise! Chase ran a promo in Dec where each time you used the cash machine to deposit a minimum amount or more you were entered in a drawing....well.....won $200 from that!!! No notification from them....just a deposit! Whoop!!! Starting off my EF!!! Also, was able to put away about another $1000 due to Christmas money I received and some extra pay money that was owed to me. So met 3 of my goals as well!!! Hoping I can stay on track with this and not have to "use" any of it. I cashed in our Coin Jar and we had $50.10 in there. Put the .10 back in the Jar and added the $50 to savings. I also went to 2 of MO's BBall Games last week so added $6.00 each for that (no games for me this week). Also had some FB sales and added a few dollars to even out my accounts. My Mom got 8 (yes you read that right!) carts of stuff for us to sell on FB this last weekend. I will be picking it up Saturday, so I foresee some major savings deposits as soon as I can start getting those items up for sale! Based on my goal of $12K for the year, we would need to save $1K per month, and we are at a great pace for that for month #1! Bankergurl.....you do great finding savings to boost your overall savings!! I also have stuff I need to start selling again and all of it will go to savings. Can't wait!! Goals to make this year!!!

Well, I promised myself I was going to make it simpler this year and not have this long list and make goals smaller...but here I go again and I've UPPED some. I mean a lot of these are just regular old sinking funds, but I don't want to neglect them. I really should have house maintenance on there too, I'm very bad about saving there and it's going to bite me in the ass big time, it has in the past for sure. I received my Dependent Care FSA payout on Monday and today sent in an order to contribute to my 2016 Roth with it, so that's where that big chunk of money came from. Starting this year I'm going to track the FSA contributions as they are deducted from my check as 2017 Roth savings. Vacation savings is high. 2K is going towards the cruise I've been saving for that is now NEXT year, woohoo! The other $1000 is for a Summer vacation. I haven't gone anywhere but a water park or two since 2012 and the kids want to go to Yellowstone (although I'm not sure they're aware of how much driving that really is). I had to really move and rethink my goals and I might still have to pull back even more. I won't change my amount to my 401k even though it is taking a good chunk of my paycheck. I can make do on what I'm making: it's not chump change...just not what I'm used to right now. I am paying the mortgage on my dad's house until we sell it. I will admit that I've been very spoiled by not paying housing expenses. I need to start tightening the belt a little and cut back on some of my excess spending. The car fund is for my next car or any car expenses with the current one, including insurance. My car got hit while I was at work a couple weeks ago. Luckily the other car was majorly at fault (considering that it was parked and I was not in it) so that insurance is picking up the tab but it's all such a hassle. SS#1 is special savings which is more for school I suppose. That was my weekly challenge account last year which amassed over $13k last year. I decided to add my General Savings into the mix. It was stocked a little bit last year but was used for a variety of work/professional expenses. Hoping for a good weekend to all! And if you never hear from me again it's because I won PowerBall!

$2266.77 in repairs so far + $3000 contractor in just painting + whatever bathroom costs. Had $4000 put aside so I guess that EF will be dipped into this year. On a happy note, I'll be out of debt by March at this rate and putting into 2015 & 2016 when market is down

I take the liberty to read, like and occasionally write, even though my own saving is highly irregular at this point, chiefly due to our very irregular income and some slight underemployment.
The enthusiasm of the savers makes it easier and more fun to use the income checks to replenish savings and sinking funds, stock up the pantry, and check that the family is adequately shod´n´clad instead of living feast or famine style.

lund and Blonde Granny thanks for sharing and participating. More is definitely merrier. I love the spirit and atmosphere of this thread. Thank you for being part of that. Anyone else who is watching or following, you don't have to post your goals to benefit from participating. C'mon in! On another note, looks like there's enough quilters for a quilters' thread? Question re:QUILTING Can you use fabric from other than fabric store? like Goodwill or garage sales, or recycle clothing back to being pieces of fabric?

Back in the olden days of my Grandmother, and she would be about 130 or so now, every scrap of fabric was eventually turned into a quilt. Buttons were cut off shirts and saved in what I call the Magic Button Box. That generation was the ultimate reduce, reuse and recycle people.
One of the treasured items that quilters want today are the old seed sacks....my Grandmother used to go into town with her DH when it was time to buy seed and chose the bags she wanted based on making clothes and quilts for her family. Quilting fabric, or any fabric is scooped up quickly at thrift stores. Old chenille bedspreads make great throws for winter. You just need to use your imagination. Old worn sheets are perfect for quilt backing.
Garage sales are another place to find fabric, someone would love to get their hands on my stash, but I'm planning on taking it with me...
Some quilt fabric has hit $15 a yd. I simply won't pay that much for it.

Not a quilter... but I do knit. Mostly baby blankets, because they don't need to be fitted. I'm taking a break right now because I had to race through three blankets for three new babies. I got burned out.
One good thing about knitting is that you can watch tv and knit, and feel like you accomplished something.

MO got paid on Friday and has a small auto deposit every payday to our regular savings. We also went out on Friday night and played bar bingo and he won $75! We used part of that to pay our last week for the 2015 Weekly Challenge! Glad that is done! Hoping to knock out a few of the late weeks early this year so we can stay on track for the 2016 Challenge.

EF took a hit but not as much as I feared. Not adding it into goals UNLESS I make 2015 & 2016 by end of primary tax season Fan is too noisy. He needs to come back to fix that ... he's texting me options the next time he's at Home Depot

First post for 2016... I started 2015 at $19,300 and ended up at $35,840 as of 12/31/15. CRAZY!
I am saving towards a down payment on a house because we've outgrown our current home. I think I will set my goal at $50,000 this year with an interim goal of $41,000 by 3/31/16. By then, I should have received my work bonus (not expected to be great this year) and my tax refund (maybe $2k). I could also submit my first quarter of daycare reimbursements of about $1250.
On Friday I will receive the results for my final actuarial exam. It will either be a fabulous day (including a $1000 after tax bonus and a $1400 raise) or absolutely terrible. I'm also expecting it to lead to a promotion. Like I said, either fabulous (and I will most likely adjust my goals) or I will be devastated.

Our total savings is at $11,965.00 (not counting Weekly Challenge, HSA, Retirement, etc.). But we have a TON of huge expenses coming. I am taking MO on a mini surprise vaca over the long weekend. He hasn't had any days off other than Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day and he really needs a break. This coming weekend he doesn't have to work and they also aren't having practice or games for his Bball team so I am finally able to sneak him out of here! I booked a room for a casino about 4 hrs away, they have a pool/hot tub, gambling, 3-4 places to eat and my cousin and her BF are also going to meet us there. I am doing my best to not tell MO. I plan to just load him in the car Friday after work and surprise him that way! So hard not to spill the beans! Should be a fun trip!
Oh and good news we paid our last week for the 2015 Weekly Challenge! So that money is set aside and it is NOT included in the $20K Challenge so that is $1378 more we actually do have in savings. We plan on saving that for a trip we are taking in April.
In not so fun news, we have been informed that MO's old house (Rental #1) needs to be surveyed to see if it is in the flood plain or not....and the survey is going to cost about $1200. Booooo! If we get the ok that we are NOT in the flood plain, that will save us about $2K per year in flood insurance costs so hoping that it turns out ok. The map that we got shows part of the yard in the flood plain, and part is not, so I think it is worth the cost of the survey to see if we don't need to pay for flood insurance.
We are STILL waiting for a bill for the New AC at Rental #2, and some other repair bills on our current home. The bill for the new garage door at Rental #2 is due at the end of Feb, and property taxes on Our House and Rental #2 are all due in Feb as well. After this mini vaca it will need to be nose to the grindstone for awhile to get all of these big bills handled!

Ombud Good work staying on top of those home repairs! I hope you will get an excellent finished product. azucena Wow! A lot is riding on the results!! Please let us know Friday. I'll be looking forward to it and hope your results are positive as they have been in the past. Excellent job saving for that down payment bankergurl Your MO is a lucky fella! We used to live in a house that had a part of the property in flood zone. If I remember correctly, a lot depended on whether any part of the mechanicals of the house (A/C unit, electrical,...) were at the level or not. So if just a corner or edge of the yard was affected we didn't have a problem. I hope you get a good report.
