If anyone believes in God, regardless of their religion, then they are all worshiping the same God. The difference is humans and their individual religions have attributed different characteristics and beliefs to and names for their God than the other peoples and their religions.
My personal opinion is if there is a God, no one on earth, past, present, or future, will ever get it right or know the truth. The known universe (and possible multiple universes) is a very complicated and mysterious thing to understand. So why should someone saying they have the truth on who God actually is when God (He/She/It/Other) is even more complicated and mysterious than our known and unknown universe(s).

You do realize you are doing the same thing?
You don't have any better of a handle on what God wants than any other mortal being. We all have to wait until we are dead until we find out.
And on what basis does your determination rest? You have no way of knowing the degree to which my knowledge of God comports with scripture, nor do you know how well every other mortal being's knowledge of God comports with scripture. Your judgments mean nothing. If you're claiming that scripture isn't the means by which man comes to know the mind of God, so be it. We fundamentally disagree and it isn't worth arguing over. If you're claiming that there is no accurate, holistic, defensible interpretation of scripture, we fundamentally disagree on that too. You might as well be arguing that there exists no accurate, holistic, defensible interpretation of global climate data, which isn't true either. I doubt you've ever studied scripture, debated it, or tested it. You haven't researched the origins of churches' beliefs and doctrines. You haven't studied what different Christian denominations believe and why. You don't know what churches have syncretized, added, or removed. You don't know what they rest their beliefs on, what they teach in their seminaries, where their dogma originates, what resources they consider authoritative. If I had to guess, you've blindly assumed that because so many Christians believe so many different things, there can't possibly be an accurate, holistic, defensible interpretation of scripture. One man's conceptions are as valid as any other's. But somewhere on this Earth there is a true church with an understanding of the truth. Not necessarily a worldly organization, but a like-minded group of individuals spanning the globe, dedicated to studying, living, and feeding on the whole word of God in sincerity and in truth. The Bible calls it "the little flock" as well as "the Church of God". And the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. That's scriptural. Because there are so many differing voices fighting their way to be listened to, and hopefully adhered to as truth as they see it- Makes the highlight area ^above^ valid in man's own eyes. But as you've written, Virgil- There is still a remnant, "the little flock" who continue holding steadfastly to the word of God according to the God of the bible in which we (me & you) believe. Each man must choose what and/or whom they shall believe in. There are many gods. I choose to believe in the God of the bible.

I don't believe there are "many gods". There is either one God or not. If there are many gods, then God is not God. Either God is the ominipotent, omnipresent, omniscient being or not. There can be people worshipping false idols or following some other false spirit. But, saying there are many gods makes no sense to me.

There can be people worshipping false idols or following some other false spirit. But, saying there are many gods makes no sense to me. One can technically argue that any monotheistic religion worships the "same" god in the sense that all monotheists believe only one god exists to be worshiped, but concepts of what God is, what His role is, what His nature is, what His will for mankind is, etc. vary immensely between monotheistic religions. The distinctions obviously matter, for the same reason that distinctions matter between perceptions of e.g. the United States of America. Some people believe the US is a beacon of freedom, some believe it's an empire in decline, some believe it's a global tyrant, some believe it's a capitalist wasteland, some believe it's liberalism run amok. Different groups tell its history differently, view its peoples differently, and view its laws and rights differently. Even minor differences can lead to tremendous conflict. To say that everyone believes in the "same" USA, while technically correct, is as useless as saying that every monotheistic religion believes in the "same" God. Taken to a ridiculous extent, we could say that a man who believes his cat is a singular deity is worshiping God. He just happens to believe God is his cat. As far as the Bible is concerned, God requires mankind to worship Him in specific ways, not to worship Him in certain ways, to observe certain laws and ordinances, to practice a particular way of life, and to study and understand specific truths. There's nothing remotely resembling "it's all good" or "worship in your own way" when it comes to worship and religion in the Bible. The same is true for the Qur'an. Hence while a man can reasonably argue that the Bible is wrong, or the Qur'an is wrong, or that both are wrong, he cannot reasonably argue that both are right.

Omnipotent, present and omniscient. Yet, God considers worshipping idols false gods to men. In God's word it is written- Thou shall have no other gods before me. Exodus 20:3The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 2 Corinthians 4:4Here is a link to a list of false gods found in the bible. jesusalive.cc/ques220.htm

So who gets into heaven and who does not- according to who? Just Christians, just certain Christians? Jews allowed? Any room for the Hindus?
Someone going to tell me that a creator set up this planet where people are all born into different cultures with their own histories and myths, yet at the end is only going to allow people that read a particular version and accept it as true in the door and cast everyone else away? This is why I do not buy into any of this. Nobody IMO knows the mind of God including everyone in the past that claimed they did and wrote about it- as someone said people are taking the word of ancient people that didn't know where the sun went at night.

I struggle with this too. In my world God set up this system knowing that different people would believe in different ways. So even though people think they are the ones that got it right, in fact they all got it right.

This is why I do not buy into any of this. Nobody IMO knows the mind of God including everyone in the past that claimed they did and wrote about it- as someone said people are taking the word of ancient people that didn't know where the sun went at night. The short answer is that not everybody is being called at this time. Mankind has been given approximately 6,000 years to self-govern, to earnestly attempt every conceivable system of government. Students of human history will ultimately witness that the end of every attempt is failure, eliminating all doubt that man is fundamentally incapable of self-government. In fact, Christ will return shortly before mankind would otherwise self-annihilate, which is a capacity we've only had in the past 60 years. Certain individuals, called the "elect" in scripture, are called by God, who grants them a spirit to study, understand, and live certain truths, including His way of life for mankind. The Bible doesn't give any indication of why God calls these specific individuals other than to say they're generally lowly, unimportant, unremarkable individuals (1 Corinthians 1:22-29) and that they aren't necessarily righteous or devout individuals when they're called (both Old Testament and New give numerous examples). The Bible also tells us that these individuals are called by God's grace--meaning His undeserved favour--since scripture makes it plain that all men have sinned, the penalty for sin is death, and hence the only thing any human being (including the elect) deserves is death. Hence the most obvious question is: if God isn't calling everybody at this time (i.e. in this age), why is he calling anybody? Why is there an "elect"--a "firstfruits", a "little flock"--at all? The short answer is that a work exists to be completed in this age, which began with the foundation of the New Testament Church after Christ's death. The work of the Church is a complex topic but can be roughly broken down into three major initiatives: i) proclaiming the gospel (good news) of repentance and the coming Kingdom of God under Christ Jesus on Earth, ii) proclaiming the Ezekiel Warning, especially to the Israelite-descended nations, about the coming judgment on the nations of men, including the end-time Tribulation, and iii) preparing a godly people to rule the nations as kings and priests (Revelation 5:10, Revelation 1:6) under the leadership of Jesus Christ for a millennial period immediate following his return. During Christ's millennial reign, mankind will learn to live God's way of life, which is the way to lasting peace and prosperity. The elect throughout the ages who are chosen and faithful (not everyone called by God will be judged worthy) will be resurrected upon Christ's return to the Earth at the end of the age in what is called the "first resurrection" (or "lesser resurrection") in order to witness the wedding between Christ and the Church (the "bride") and to begin serving under him. Men and women not in the first resurrection will be raised after the 1,000 year millennial reign of Christ, in what is called the "general resurrection", whereupon they'll be given their first real opportunity to know the Christ of the Bible, be taught God's way of life, and be given an opportunity to accept or reject it. Those who accept will be granted eternal life in God's Kingdom (which is a government under God and Christ, not a physical place). Those who are incorrigibly wicked, who reject God's way of life, will be repaid for any sins and permanently destroyed in hellfire. A start-to-finish blueprint for all these events is laid out in striking detail through the Biblical holy days, which teach Christians about God's plan of salvation for all of mankind. That's one of the reasons true Christians abhor pagan "Christian" holidays like Christmas, Easter, Valentine's Day, etc. Not only are they spitting in God's eye by promoting rank paganism, they also supplant the holy days of the Bible that provide the blueprint for understanding such a vital scriptural topic. Hopefully this answers your question. The above isn't just my opinion. Everything here is straight out of the pages of your own Bible. Proving this is a more demanding task that requires a great deal of study, hence an overview is the best I can do here. Anyone who's genuinely interested can PM me if they're interested in studying up on any of the topics broached. I know of many resources, study guides, online sermons, etc. that can assist. The main reason I'm posting this here is so that those reading this now know why "you believe good Christians fly off to heaven and everyone else burns forever in hell" doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to my beliefs despite my routinely being accused of believing this. Finally, if you're wondering why you've never heard any of this before, it's because the Catholic Church and the Protestant Churches descended from her (which collectively comprise the vast majority of Christendom) don't teach it. They teach Christmas and Easter and the Trinity (another doctrine pulled straight from paganism) and Limbo and Purgatory and every other imaginable heresy. It's really not surprising that people give up caring and write off religion entirely. The Bible tells us that Satan, the ruler of Earth in this age, has deceived the whole world (Revelation 12:9), and boy it isn't kidding.

Great post Virg, I wrote this earlier and I'm glad I didn't post it until now because in conjunction with what you are saying.... I feel that the decision to include free will in the human model was a risk worth taking. What's crazy is how similar all these cultures and myths are - to the point that these crazy alien conspiracy nuts draw the conclusions that aliens have visited..... The thing is that for some reason free will is also free to lean slow. So for tens of thousands of years we were given signs and direction from "the heavens," yet we kept hurting each other. So the last time our "pinnacle of evolution of a species" was completely connected; God sent the Messiah to straighten the whole thing out. Universally we were ready to accept(not hurting each other) and move forward. However, we have been warned that to get to the Messianic Age there will be the greatest tribulations of all time.... Thank God for CANADA!

The one thing I do disagree with though Virg, is that Christmas, Easter (not Valentines day) are bad things. The commercial stuff is for the kids on those holidays - it's about not over spending. At Christmas time the world is reminded of Jesus, and he way the Protestant reformation has spread it with the tree and the lights and the fun reminds people more of what Jesus taught than any post on any message board. Satan= The hate of Islam my friend, and how they are pushing their shit EVERYWHERE. Easter, the religious part.. A reminder for what the Romans did. Freedom.

Very interesting read here, Virgil. May I ask who you're faith based affiliated with? I attend services with the Living Church of God (LCG). Their statement of beliefs can be found here.

The one true God is the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob. Ishmil is that start of Islam. Exactly, Abraham's other son. The Ishmilities were a huge tribe from the East, the same area that Job was from. Great point, Art! So they do not recognize Issac & Jacob? Here's my 2c of which you are free to trash: any religion based on Do unto others as you would have others do unto you worships the same G-d but perhaps in a slightly different culture / food choice / holidays / name .... but the same precept. Guess who that leaves out? Certainly not Hindu, Christians, Jews, Environmentalists, Buddhists, Sikhs, Baha'i ....

“Serve God, and join not any partners with Him; and do good – to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, those in need, neighbors who are near, neighbors who are strangers, the companion by your side, the wayfarer (ye meet), and what your right hands possess [the slave]: For God loveth not the arrogant, the vainglorious” (Q:4:36)
So I guess contrary to all beliefs, the Islam abides by the Golden Rule!

“None of you have faith until you love for your neighbor what you love for yourself” (Sahih Muslim)
“Whoever wishes to be delivered from the fire and to enter Paradise…should treat the people as he wishes to be treated.” (Sahih Muslim)
“None of you truly believes until he wishes for his brother what he wishes for himself” (Forty Hadith-Nawawi)
“None of you is a believer if he eats his full while his neighbour hasn’t anything.” (Musnad)
“Do unto all men as you would wish to have done unto you; and reject for others what you would reject for yourselves.” (Abu Dawud)
“Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you.” (Farewell Sermon)
“There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm.” (Ibn- Majah)
And these are somewhat repetitions of the same idea but with the same meaning.

And is there any reason to believe that Christians or people of any other faith don't do that? Evil people come from all walks of life. Hopefully they all end up in jail or on a chair(best scenario!).

"The term “organ-importing countries” is used here to refer to the countries of origin of the patients going overseas to purchase organs for transplantation. A report by Organs Watch, an organization based at the University of California, USA, identified Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the USA as major organ-importing countries."
this is is from a study done in 2007 by WHO. except from Oman and Saudi Arabia all other countries on the list have minor Muslim population. Who provides this organs is less relevant to me than who wants this organs. Those that provide the organs according to the same study get paid very little: in China for a kidney for example one might get $4-5k. An American that needs a kidney is willing to pay up to $200k for that kidney. Most of the time these people sell a body part that they can live without just so they can feed their family. Why is an American willing to pay $200k for it if he/she are so righteous? Do they care where that comes from? Believe not as long as it solves THEIR problem.

mroped, are you aware of other religions that use forced organ harvesting from live captives as an income stream or not? If so, please cite references

Absolutely. If DH had lived he would have needed a kidney. Waiting 5 years is not an option I'm willing to deal with. If I can get it for him another way, I would. It's easy to be self righteous when it's not your loved one. When it is, you'll do anything to save them.

Then I'm gonna ask again: do you think that all those that harvest organs illegaly are Muslims? Can one deny the fact that some of those that do that are Christians or Jewish or Buddhists? If this thing, harvesting, happened in a country that is in majority Muslim and was done by individuals that were Muslims that doesn't mean they did it so they could fund Islam. It means that they did it so they can make themselves rich! So do the others and there is no excuse for it.
And Zib, so would I!

I repeat: mroped, are you aware of other religions that sanction forced organ harvesting from live captives as an income stream or not? If so, please cite references. By your silence, I will assume that you know of no other religious group that uses forced organ harvesting even when it causes the death of the (un)willing donor as an income stream for the religious organization Not as a way for a single deviant to earn income but sanctioned by a GROUP to do so. I'll help by starting: Muslim sect - documented North Korea- suspected but not proven In my religion we are taught: Do unto others as you would have others do unto you, not take their body parts (organs / head) for the religious group's pleasure or profit

O, ho,ho! Ombud, you are making a great confusion here: "... document of the Islamic State" Rings a bell now? You do understand I hope that the Islamic State( ISIS or ISIL) does not represent the Islam as a faith just as KKK doesn't represent Christianity. There are about 1.5 billion Muslims in the world and an estimated 300,000 people living in the territories occupied by ISIL and not all necessarily extremists.
Is there a chance that they might have passed such a rule and what not? Sure...because you are talking about a mental institution not a religious one. They all belong in an asylum for the mentally insane.
And no, I don't know of any faith- Islam included- that would sanction such a thing and that's exactly for the same reason: they all have a or variation of The Golden Rule.
