After peeling 200 lbs of sweet potatoes, I was informed that nephew only eats canned.
Me: I dont have canned. Her: Well he wont eat those and he cant have Thanksgiving without sweet potatoes with lots of marshmallows. Me: Tough shit.
The disclaimer is Ive been informed that one has to be gluten free...one is a vegetarian...one wont eat anything cooked in teflon and then the sweet potato issue. Im just hearing all of this (except the teflon thing). Told DH to take his relatives to the store so they can buy and prep what they need. I can barely get one meal on the table nevermind accomodate all this other stuff.
The turkey is almost thawed. Yesterday I was able to pry out the neck and giblets and cooked them up to make stock. I am in the process of making the stuffing right now. After that I will make the jello salad. My Grandma made this jello salad a lot and it is actually pretty good. It has cream cheese, pineapple, marshmallows and whipped cream in it. I will never ever, ever make golden glow jello salad. The one with the carrots, pineapple and topped with mayo.
DD is bringing green bean casserole, since that her hubbies favorite and she is also bringing pumpkin pie. The asparagus is cleaned and ready to go. Tomorrow I will just peel and cook regular potatoes and sweet potatoes. DD and I prefer the sweet potatoes minus the syrup and marshmallows.
My turkey breast is in the oven, the cranberry sauce is bubbling away on the stove top and I have to get the desire to get up and make the stuffing. DH and I do a small meal of our own the night before so I can have leftovers as the SILs are not too generous at giving out leftovers on the day of. My cats like turkey, no skin and bone. Unfortunately. last year's didn't go so great as DH pissed me off, I got soused and threw the turkey out the door. Or was that Christmas? Eh. Same difference.
At some point I will put the rolls for tomorrow into the oven to bake so I don't have to take up oven space over there and they can just be thrown in to warm up. That and soda are our big contributions.

Lime jello? 7 up? If so, I'm making that same one. Also making a strawberry one They have been made for holidays as long as I can remember (my brother made the green one for 4H, my sister did the strawberry one). Actually, I'm thinking I'll have my son make them, so he knows how in the future.
I'm also making the mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes. I'll make the mashed potatoes today, and probably prep the sweet potatoes so they can be heated quickly tomorrow.

I pulled the turkey out of the freezer tonight, it's in the fridge for Sunday night. tomorrow, I'm volunteering early and the roommate and I are heading to a friend's family dinner around 2. we are bringing 2 bottles of wine and a big salad of baby spinach, (cooled) roasted butternut squash, craisins and almonds w/balsamic.

X has DS from 9-3 tomorrow so I'm not stressing the food prep too much tonight. The cheesecake had to be done now, but the rest can easily be done tomorrow. My menu is simple: Turkey Paula Deen mashed potatoes 1/2 yield of mac and cheese (because I know DS won't eat the potatoes) Crescent rolls Roasted vegetables (asparagus, squash, bell pepper, and carrots) Cranberry sauce (from the can cuz laziness) Pumpkin cheesecake for dessert
And did I mention I'm also making breakfast? I might toss the cinnamon rolls in the oven now.

I just got home from the grocery store to pick up fresh greens for the salad. They had every register open and it was a breeze to get in and out. I would hate to think what our local Wal-Mart looks like right now - I have never seen more than a fifth of the registers open.

I know you cannot eat shellfish, but the best Thanksgiving dinner I ever had was at a friend's home in coastal Connecticut. While my frind's girlfriend was preparing the traditional meal, my friend and I went out on his boat and checked his lobster traps. There were quite a few lobsters in the traps. So back to his house for lobster and drawn butter pre-dinner treats. We filled up so much on lobster we barely touched the traditional meal.

Funny you should mention those. I was so late getting out for the turkey breast that I told DH if we don't find one then we're probably having the turkey tv dinners. He said that was fine with him.

With TV dinners, use plastic utensils and everything goes into the trash can. No dishes, pots or pans to wash up.

I have the turkey seasoned and in the pan ready to pop in the oven tomorrow. I don't stuff it because nobody likes that because it gets mushy so i just stuff it with carrots, celery and onions. DD and i made a pumpkin cheesecake and pumpkin pie. Also, we have some bread drying so we can put the stuffing together tonight. My mom always made it the night before and let it sit over night in the fridge to absorb the flavors of the onions and celery, etc.

I was tasked with bringing a center piece decoration, so I bought a very nice one and I am done. I have such great friends (and I do cook for them in a week or two → big holiday brunch)

Lime Jello yes, 7-up no. You mush the cream cheese up with a fork and mix it with the crushed pineapple, a little sugar and a pinch of salt. The marshmallows are cut up and you put the lime jello on top. Pour the boiling water on that to dissolve the jello and sorta dissolve the marshmallows. Add the cream cheese mixture and stir it all up. Let is set slightly in the fridge and then fold in the whipped cream. A whole lot of messing around but I like it and generally only have it once a year.
