I don't think I've actually attended a Black Friday event.
The stories remind me of when I was a kid and my mom used to take me to the "After Christmas" sales to buy Christmas cards and wrapping paper (and whatever else). People used to get into fights and grabbing stuff. We stopped going when I was around 11.
I'm a bargain shopper but I don't see endangering yourself to save a few dollars.
We don't buy many gifts anymore. I think MIL is the only one this Christmas. And it will be small because we're flying into Portland this year.

I tried TV hunting on black Friday a few years ago. I wouldn't try any of the stores with lines out the door, so would drive around until I found a store that wasn't too busy, pop-in, see that they were sold out, and pop right back out again. I ended up ordering one online.
I need a new phone this year, I'll probably stick to online for that as well.
Unless I need major appliances or electronics the deals just aren't worth it.

My husband suggested we stay overnight at my parents' house, and that he and my father go shopping the next day while my mom and I entertain the kid. I think he was joking.

DH goes to JCPennys to pick up the Mickey snow globe. He leaves here about 4:30am and after he picks them up he calls me and I meet him for breakfast.
Don't know about this year. We are having overnight guests that are late risers so maybe DH will go and come back home for breakfast.
Otherwise I stay away from malls on black Friday.

Did it once for a Furby I think it was. Probably more than twenty years ago. I made an appointment for DD at Nordstroms brow bar for 4:30 Friday. The lady said the place won't be so awful by then. That's as close as I'm getting to the mall and not shopping. We did that yesterday and she cost me a small fortune. I can't afford her visits!!!

I'm going to go to the mall tomorrow and look for a new pair of jeans. I noticed a hole in the ones I was wearing yesterday so now I have my excuse.

I've been doing the BF thing online today. A lot of people are offering promotions and/or free shipping.
I got some treats for the dog from PetSmart. She likes the ones that are $6.99 a bag, and they are $3.99 a bag. I only got one, though. She is literally on a diet. She gets one a day. It was also free shipping plus I had a small amount on a gift card that I wanted to use up.
I bought 10 "free" Christmas cards on Shutterfly. I only had to pay shipping. It was $6.99 shipping for 10 so Walgreen's might have been as cheap. But I had access to my DIL's pictures on Shutterfly. What I forgot was that I had an "offer" for 10% off with Amex if I bought at Shutterfly. I saved another 69 cents! Well, that's the only thing I might have bought on there so that's cool. I did buy two metal picture ornaments under a similar deal earlier (supposedly $24.99 each, which I find IMPOSSIBLE to believe just like I don't believe anyone would spend $33.90 for 10 Christmas cards, which was supposedly the price) but $8.49 shipping for both ornaments worked fine. They ARE really nice.
I bought a movie from Target with free shipping. It was $5, but the RedCard made it $4.50. So that's also cool.
We've only got one grandchild's one present left to buy, and we get them each two. With nine of them/18 presents, that is great at this point. We buy my sister brownies and give to a charity (Wreaths Across America because my husband is a veteran).
So no BF here, but I am enjoying the online version.

No Black Fridays for me. Ever. I HATE the crowds in the shops. My DH though... another matter entirely. He associates BF with Thanksgiving "tradition". So even if he doesn't buy, he LOVES going out in the crowd and feeling the "spirit". So right now DH and the kids are out with the crowds , I am doing online shopping. I ordered 5 items of clothing from Talbots, 2 jackets from LLBean and I am done ! Time to watch cheesy movies on TV!!

I went to Macy's one year and it was deserted at 7 AM. Other than Rite Aid which is close by and not crowded, I don't shop anywhere starting TG until after Christmas. I went to the mall once on Black Friday to take all my nieces (4 college aged girls at that time) - man was that a mistake. We left home at 7 AM and I had to force them back home at 10 PM. They had so much fun though - trying on everything, choosing and comparing prices at various stores, but I was pooped. Never did that again.

DS and I are going to Sesame Place tomorrow. They do a whole setup for Christmas... It's actually really cute. Plus I got groupons for our tickets.

We never did it growing up, but my oldest sister always goes black friday shopping. She doesn't go out at insane hours, and one thanksgiving I was at her house and she made us go with her. I'm not into it though. The deals aren't that great, and everything is picked over. Plus I saw a consumer reports segment that said the super duper black friday items are often specially made and of lower quality/fewer features and they have higher rates of breaking and poor performance.

I went. I love going Black Friday shopping, even though I did all of my shopping online and am done. I went with my teen.
Hours were completely stupid this year. Mall was open from 6pm (with JCP open at 3pm) and then it closed at 1pm. Then it wasn't opening again until 5am, or something like that. The only stores that were open past 1pm were the big box stores. On the drive over, traffic was light, and while the parking lot had a lot of cars, we had no problem getting a spot. We went in through JCP because it was the only store open at 5:45 and just waited to get into the mall. I zipped over to Hollister, since last year, we stood in line for a half hour to get in, but there were only two other people there. There were no crowds in the stores, no lines, and sales people every two feet asking if you needed help. The only store I saw that had a line outside was PINK. Frankly, it looked like any other day at this mall, crowd wise. The only things were some clothes for the teen and her sister, which they both get now. I did get one t-shirt and a pair of earbuds for Christmas, though!
The whole fun of shopping on Black Friday is staying awake all night. I was home by 8:30...

We like to Black Friday shop. I view it as a challenge. When we got to the mall, there were NO parking spots. People were parked everywhere. We drove around patiently and someone pulled out and we got the first spot, near the door, lol. Then, we decided to grab some lunch at the food court so we split up and I ordered food and then DH and DD found a table. It was a good day. Everybody was very pleasant.

DH and his sister went to Best Buy around 11:30 on Thursday night, I'd gone to bed because I wasn't feeling well. We were going to order him a PS4 online to avoid going out, but they were bored and decided to go to the local Best Buy... they got there around midnight and said there wasn't really a crowd at all (they also kind of live in the sticks though). DH got his system and SIL got a new TV for the nephews for Christmas. I thought they were insane but they both made out.
Years ago once when we were in Philadelphia for Thanksgiving, my brother and I had my dad bring us to a Walmart at 4am to try and get some Gameboy Advances or something. We walked in, looked at the crowds and walked back out. DH has gone to Toys r Us a few times years past to get stuff with either his sister or my friend, but we're so over it. I'd go out during the day on Black Friday (SIL and I have done that), but never early morning or Thanksgiving night.

mmhmm, I think that's mass murderer as opposed to serial killer.
I had no intention of going. However, because we were visiting where we used to live, and there are actual stores there, the girls convinced me to buy them new boots. They share shoes, and their boots were actually falling apart. Saturday wouldn't have worked as were driving home. We went after lunch on Friday. I wanted them to get a pair that were 50% off at Macy's, but they opted for the ones at Payless that were $10 cheaper. Whatever. They're the ones who have to wear them.

I went out to Penney's on Thursday. They were giving away coupons as you walked in. $10 off on a $10 purchase, with a chance for either $100 or $500 for a lucky few. Bought a waffle maker and rice cooker for $9.99 after rebate. Coupon didn't apply to electrics so went back in and bought a pair of pants for $8 after coupon. Bought a $100 gift card and received a $25 off $25 coupon. Used most of the gift card and another $10 off $10 coupon the next day on four pair of pants, a pair of shorts, and two shirts on a "Spend $75 in-store get $20 back" promotion. I thus spent $92 on eight articles of clothing and still have $45 in coupons to use later from that.
Like I've said, it's all a game.
And no, I haven't tried to do the big electronics doorbusters for years. There's really nothing I need badly enough.

I accidently bought 4 ceiling fans at Home Depot. DH and I have been working on some house projects and we wandered over Friday and started looking at fans but couldn't find any that we liked. The next day I went in with my sister to comparison shop on carpeting and there was a random stack of Black Friday sale ceiling fans en route. They were exactly what we were looking for and only $60 each so we cleaned them out.

We got a new washer/dryer set on Black Friday as planned.
K-mart was pretty much business as usual by the time we arrived. They had a REALLY good deal on shoes. Buy a pair get one for $1. So we bought Gwen new snow boots and allowed her to pick out a new pair of sneakers for a buck.

I did better on Amazon today than on black Friday.
