American Express has special offers, and one of them is a $15/$60 purchase at Amazon.
It was ironic because I have spent a few hundred on Amazon for Christmas presents for the grandkids, but I've run out of things to buy. It's DH's fault because he starts Christmas shopping on November 1 and wants to be finished before Thanksgiving. I had to tell him to slow down when he came home with these really cute decorate-your-own-slippers sets for the oldest granddaughters (7 and almost 5). I like to shop, too!
So I have nothing to buy. And I won't buy something just to get a discount.
Then I discovered (on Fat Wallet) that you can simply buy a gift certificate . . . even reload your own giftcard balance with $60 to get the credit. I was skeptical, but I tried it. It worked, and the credit appeared on my statement today. Now I can wait until I really want to purchase something. The only caveats are that you can't buy corporate gift cards and that the offer isn't good on the Costco American Express.
Isn't it ironic that they got rid of the Small Business Saturday credit but are now giving the Ultimate Big Business credit?
ETA: Mods, I posted in the wrong section. Can you move to Off-topic? Thanks.

I don't think my Amex gets those offers. Mine is a Macy's one. I can always find something on Amazon.

I can always find something on Amazon. Yeah, me too. Even if it's just toiletries, household items and cat food...

Thanks for the tip. I never search for offers that way, but I added that to our cards. We will certainly spend 60 at Amazon between now and the end of the year.

I've been keeping an eye on these Amex offers since brake advantage of the Target one last summer. Amex gave a $30 statement credit for every $100 spent and you could use it 5x. I went in and bought 5x $100 Target or Amex g/c.

For my Amex i can see a list of offers if I sign into the Amex website or if you have the Amex app on your phone / tablet then you can click on the offers button at the bottom to view them all. You just have to click to add them to your card.

The way I heard it via Fat Wallet was that you didn't get it with third party Amex card. You also only get it on ONE of your Amex cards unless you take the one you already got it on off the online site. Way too much intrigue for me. I saw it first on my Everyday Blue or whatever it is called. If the Costco is my ONLY card, it might be available. But it isn't so I don't know.

I'm really aggravated with Amazon on this one. I ordered 4 things for just over $60, they credited me back $15, but then shipped the 4 things separately. When one of the packages got lost they wouldn't resend, only refund, so my order no longer qualified and they charged me $15 again. I'd have been better off pretending I got the stupid $10 item.

There seems to be a similar credit if you use Visa Pay or whatever it is called.
A few of our presents came from Zulily, which I generally hate. One of those reasons that I hate it is shipping, which seems to negate, for me, any point of ordering from them. But that was one of the places that my DIL directed me toward. At checkout, i was offered free shipping if I registered for and used Visa Pay or whatever.
So I did. Today I was paying my Chase Freedom card and discovered that generated a $15 credit. I don't really know the details.
It was a pleasant surprise.
ETA: After reading Apple's post below about fees, I double checked. I didn't use Visa Pay; I used Visa Checkout.

No big deal this time, because I still got a $14 discount on something I was going to buy anyway, however, I won't use visa pay in the future, since normal checkout is free. Just a detail to watch out for.

I didn't use Visa Pay, which I take it allows you to pay using your phone or something. I used Visa Checkout, which is a service like Paypal. You don't have a service charge for that . . . at least according to their TOS and the purchase I made.

Sorry, I was tired... It was visa checkout, but I was still charged $1. I'd look very carefully before using it again.

Sorry, I was tired... It was visa checkout, but I was still charged $1. I'd look very carefully before using it again. You were probably charged, then, by the vendor who is allowed to add fees to cover their transaction costs. Visa Checkout itself doesn't add a fee. At least that was my understanding when I did some quick research this morning. That research did mention that the vendor could charge, though.
In any case, I didn't pay a fee. I checked that as well. So the fee isn't universal.
If they actually charge $1 every time you use it, it won't catch on. There are too many free alternatives, such as Paypal, even if you don't want to enter your CC information.
