So here I am in bed, nursing something that decided to attack me...I've been banished to the bedroom and with luck won't pass it on to DH. His surgery is scheduled for Nov. 25 and if he's sick it won't happen.
So, about 7:30 he pops his head in the bedroom door and asks me if I knew there was water leaking out of the freezer in the garage....Great, just great! Really? it has to do it now....but on the bright side it didn't die when we were in Florida for a month. (We got back last Sunday night).
Physically DH is no help when it comes to standing or lifting, so here I was, going thru the freezer looking for the expensive cuts of meat in there to save. Most of it was still frozen, so it's in coolers out in the sunroom. Good think it got down into the low 40s last night/this morning.
I'll gather myself together today, still feeling lousy and make to a trip to Lowes. I think I'll make my choice by whatever they have in stock that can be delivered today. In checking prices, it looks like they are double what I paid for mine 11 years ago. I'm thinking $500-600 is a little too pricey, but I need the freezer and we certainly use it.
TGIF, hope all of you enjoy your weekend.

Thanks Zib.....he felt so bad last night that he counldn't help me. Said he just feels useless. The Lexapro is helping a little but I've asked the Dr. to raise it to 20mg instead of 10. She told me most of her female patients do need the 20 mg before it seems to make much difference.

But I assured him it was only temporary and I prayed it would be.

That sucks, BG. Another option is to rent one for the short term until you find one you like and is competitively priced. Aaron's is a national furniture rent-to-own chain that also does short-term appliance rentals. I know from personal experience. They delivered a rental fridge to me on the same day. I did it all over the phone with my local store. Double check your homeowner's policy -- do you have a rider for the freezer? Although, I guess it would only make sense to make the claim if the amount of lost food exceeds your deductible and is worth a possible increase in rates.

Lowes has them on sale right now, and we get an extra 10% off due to military discount. I'm not fond of the idea of a frost free and the inside temp varies so much and I've always heard that is hard on frozen food. Best I've seen in $498 for a 14' and the size is also limited. The GL takes up a lot of space and thefreezer I have now is 51" high, 28" wide and 28" deep. I could squeeze in a 16 cf if we parked the GL just a little more to the right when pulling in the garage.
I was able to save all the meat, what is left is some on sale frozen veggies, some beef broth and a few other items that I don't mind if we pitch Too bad trash pick up day was yesterday....guess we'll have to find the builders dumpster. Lowes will take away the old freezer at no extra cost. And they have 6 in stock for delivery today. No insurance either and a $1000 deductible.

Home Depot has " up to 40%" off right now, you might want to at least check on line see if they carry what you are buying and ask for a price match. Most of the stores will do that.
My recent appliance purchases are mostly from Lowes too.
Hope you feel better, and everything goes well with your DH.

If you are still feeling crappy, I'd try doing this either online or via phone.

Keep the freezer door closed. You don't want the bodies thawing out before the new freezer comes. That would smell something awful.

Fortunately I'm feeling much better today, and just an occasional cough or two. Bought the freezer at Lowes this AM. They couldn't deliver it until Sunday, so we had them load it into our Mercedes GL SUV and away we went. I called our builder and asked if he had any strong men around today, and 3 concrete workers and the const. foreman took it out of the car, unwrapped all the plastic wrap, since they had to take it out of the box to get in the back of the SUV. They will pick up the old freezer Sunday.
Total cost for a Frigidaire 14.4 cf after the 10% military discount was $442. Same size as I had before and they certainly have improved them since I bought this other one 11 years ago.
Most of the food was still frozen, so got it and all the dead bodies transferred into the new one. Now it's time for jammies and some TV watching.

Glad you were able to get one so quickly. I've always been pretty happy with Lowes, been shopping there a lot lately. My freezers have saved me so much money I wouldn't be too concerned about the price as long as I could get what I wanted.FWIW I've never had any issues with frost-free freezers. Hope you are both feeling better by now.
