Now that we've discussed the KitchenAids, our waffle maker died a not-so-sudden death last week. We are firm believers in Waffle Wednesday. Since we just purchased the KitchenAid 600 at Costco last week, we'll wait until December or January to purchase a waffle maker. That gives YM lots of time to discuss the virtues of various waffle irons.
We had this $30 Cuisinart. It started to break a few years ago. We coaxed it along until the handle completely fell off giving us few options for actually getting the cooking waffle out of the appliance. DH "tolerated" the waffle iron. He'd like a better one, but I'm not sure he can articulate what exactly it is he wants. Belgian would be fun.
What do y'all have? Do you like it?

I have a Belgian waffle maker that I bought for $2 at a garage sale. I don't remember the brand, but I love it. Oh, wait, it is a Salton so no brand. Since there are two of us, I got a second one with coke points. It isn't Belgian. i like Belgian waffles best so that is what I would buy. But the cheap ones are good, too. Only pay big bucks if you enjoy spending big bucks.

DH and I still have our regular cuisinart waffle maker we got 9 years ago. We don't use it much at all because pancakes are quicker, but DH was asking me about it a month or so ago. He wasn't sure we still had it. I keep it because sometimes you just really need the crisp edge of a waffle. It's just the two of us so we don't need something bigger. But if you use it weekly I say go for something nice!

Waffle irons are simple devices and you'd probably do well with any of them. Our very old kenmore waffle iron finally bit the dust last year due to an electrical glitch.,as yet i havent replaced it and instead have resorted to just making pancakes. Heres a pic of it

I wish I had a Flip waffle maker instead of the traditional one. I think it is miserable and could be designed much better. If it overflows and oozes out, then it I find it a pain to clean so I often just don't bother with it. I think the flip maker would be easier to clean and deal with. Seems like that could make a waffle maker that had an easy overflow area or something to clean. I think there could be a better design for any of you future Shark Tankers.

We alternate on Sundays between waffles and pancakes. Today it is pancakes.

Our waffle iron is old. I think it is a Rival. Every once in a while we talk about getting a new one, but I am finding more and more tha "new" doesn't necessarily mean "better" when it comes to appliances.

I do have fond memories, though, of having waffles and real maple syrup at my aunts' house as a kid. IIRC, they had a cast iron waffle iron that made the best darn crispy waffles ever. And, I wish I had their waffle recipe -- they were so light and so yummy.

We bought one from Walmart. It didn't work out of the box. We took it back. I think my dad got me one for Christmas and it works. I can't remember what brand it is. It's not a Belgian one.

I think we've decided to with Belgian. The Cuisinart one we had is still available for ~$30, but DH has expressed that he would prefer to wait two or three months for the ~$85 Belgian, flip-style one. Since we use it every week, it seems mildly justifiable. There are $200 versions, and that seems excessive.

We have one we got at Costco about 15 years ago and it's awesome. Waring Pro flip style Belgian waffle maker.
Just looked at the equipment reviews from Cooks Illustrated / America's Test Kitchen and they don't review any Waring Pro ones; here are their recommendations:
Highly recommended - Chef's Choice WafflePro Express Recommended with Reservations - Cuisinart 6 slice and Cuisinart Traditional Not recommended - Kalorik and Black and Decker
To make good Belgian waffles, though, you don't just need a slightly different maker, you use a different recipe. The recipes for Belgian waffles include yeast and take a lot longer to make since you have to let it rise. I love, love, love Belgian waffles and think it's worth the wait, but it's not a quick thing. Our favorite recipe is one I do the night before and it's ready the next morning and the next best one takes about an hour to an hour and a half once you let it rise.

And, now, thanks to milee and tskeeter, waffle irons are now trending on Cook's Illustrated/America's Test Kitchen.

I have a traditional 2-waffle maker, which we received as a wedding gift. It's a Cuisinart, and while we do not use it often, we do enjoy it.
OK, now I want waffles. I bought some very good dark Grade B maple syrup while we were traveling over the summer. So I think that will be breakfast next week.

I just got this for my birthday. It works. Good enough. We kind of rotate between waffles, french toast, and pancakes. French toast is the quickest and easiest, though.

My old waffle iron bit the dust a while back, so I just got a Cuisinart Belgian waffle maker that has removable plates for both waffles and pancakes. The pancake molds are ridiculously tiny and I doubt I'll use them, but I really liked the idea of removable plates to help with cleaning.

French Toast Tuesday which rotates chuallah bread, cinnamon chip bread, and sourdough french. Waffle Wednesday Pancake Friday has changed to Pancake Monday since DH started playing basketball on Friday mornings. That vascillates blueberry, strawberry, and plain. The other carbs that rotate through are Potatoes O'Brien, biscuits with sausage in the middle, oatmeal, and fried egg/English muffin sandwiches.

Again, Costco for the win. We have a Waring Pro waffle maker, it flips and makes Belgian waffles. It cost about $40 at the time and still works like new. We get a great deal of use out of it and I like that it has varying degrees of crispy and dark to match mine and DH's tastes. Very worthwhile. I think I bought it around this time of year about 5-6 years ago.

The Chef's Choice Waffle Pro is looking pretty good. It even comes in a heart-shaped model!

I'm the type of person who has almost completely clear counters.

I think my new one is a flip one. Fits in the cabinets just fine. I'll have to look when I get home.

It fits in an above the counter cabinet, but the flip models are not as compact as the flat ones.

I don't have issues storing but I also have tall and deep cabinetry. I just saw Costco coupons for November 20-25th and their Waring pro waffle iron is on sale... $10 off for final price of $34.99!

Do you guys make your waffles from scratch? I just use Krust-eze (or something like that) for delicious Belgian waffles. It takes about as long as it takes to mix the ingredients.

Those silly full time jobs seem to get in the way of making things from scratch. We do use Bisquick and stove top stuffing. I used to always make pasta and taco shells from scratch. Not so much during the school year ... I buy marinara, but white sauces we make from scratch. Crepes I make from scratch.

I inherited the best waffle iron from my great aunt. It had removable plates (waffle ones and flat ones for sandwiches), and was BIG (made 4 square waffles). Unfortunately the old wiring began arcing and I had to retire it. My mom gave me the classic round cuisinart waffle iron, and it worked well for years, until it quit heating.
I looked for replacements. Several did not work at all (heated unevenly, didn't cook right) and got returned. I got a non-electric Belgian one - you heat it on the stove burner, add batter, wait 30 seconds and flip to the other side. It is great if the electric is out, or maybe for camping, but I've decided I really don't like Belgian waffles as much as the traditional ones. I've now got another classic round cuisinart one.
I mix up waffle batter from scratch; it takes just a few extra seconds to measure the baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar that I add to the flour, vs dumping in a mix. In fact, those are probably the only things I do actually measure properly. Everything else is just eyeballed.

They still make this kind - my mom has one that she and my dad got for a wedding gift 35 years ago, and found me a modern one as a shower gift when DH and I married 5 years ago. Let me find a link - I love it!
