I wonder what rank(s) are considered "senior officers?" Senior officers are usually considered full Colonel and above..or in the Navy Captain and above.. A comment about this .... If you take a look at the demographics of 06s (full Colonels), you are largely talking about people who have been in the military approximately 15-18 years (and maybe more ~ depending on if they did enlisted time.) So TODAY'S "senior officers" reflect the recruiting efforts and military demographics from 15-20 years ago .... and this isn't necessarily an accurate reflection of who is joining the military's officer corps NOW or RECENTLY.

There are exceptions of course, but to reach full Col, Captain naval, one has to be so chosen, not passed over , and it is in most cases those who might be considered to even advance further. There are schools they go to , these are the staff officers who do the planning as well as command the battalions, the rank of ship commanders, Carriers, missile submarines, are usually Captain, so much responsibility put on them, for the most part very well versed in the military skills needed for senior officers. hey know how to command, they know their men , they mentor their junior officers.
