Ok. The events in Japan over the last 24 hours is a game changer. The question is: How are we deploying/re-deploying money?
1) Given the situation at Japan's nukes, forget about any new nuclear construction for a LONG time. With aging plants, how do we generate the power?
2) Japan's oil refining capability has been hit hard. For how long? How much more fuel will they import?
3) It looks like the materials/commodity demand equation just changed overnight.
4) A lot of Yen will stay in Japan now as the country will need to spend to rebuild/recover.
5) With the inaction of the U.N and NATO, the result is looking like the post Khadaffi world of Libya will actually be Khadaffi - the sequel (Jackass 2).
So lets hear it. What are we looking to buy/sell next week?

Nothing. What I do investing is not driven by news or media events, even horrific, tragic events like the losses and property damage in Japan. I will continue with my normal investments by holding on. Nothing wrong with this plan. I pulled profits out of about half of my holdings on the 4th. The plan was to re-buy most of what I had at a discount. I still plan on doing some of that, but I'm looking for some fresh opportunity too. Some aspects of the events of the last day are temporary. Some much longer term. For me, a little rebalance is in order.

FTI has been at conferences the last couple of days. Everything he has been saying is still....a big GO! Why does he go to these events? ? To find out what we don't know. I hate guessing with my money.

He is a good man that FTI. What wxyz is saying in reply #1 is a great way to play it . I doubt this is going to put China and India's Nuclear plans on hold. Some nuclear stocks were up , there could be a good buying opportunity there in the next little while.

What free websites have an up-to-date list of countries with trade surpluses? This week I intend to read up on foreign exchange and allocate some extra $ to other currencies.

Last week before the ME went haywire I decided to cash in my gains and transfer 75% of my portfolio into pimco bond funds and leave 25% into equities(mainly my dividend stocks) In 4-6 months I will reallocate back into stocks if and only if oil goes below 100 a barrel. This may not be very smart, and I may lose some cash. but for me right now a 10-15% loss is worse than a 10-15% gain...

I have my plan in place and will make NO knee jerk reactions due to news of any kind... I invest every week in my 401K on the way up, on the way down, at the bottom, at the top... The dips are what make me the most money..... Up all the time yields less share than ups and downs,,,,,,, DCA 101...

I bought some CHKM for long term. I'll take the 5+% div. Still waiting to pull the trigger on my fund money that I pulled out on the 4th. I'm a pretty happy camper!

I think Japan and other nations will use a lot more fossil fuels, especially if the nuclear situation gets worse. Looks like it is getting worse daily.
According to the news this morning GE has been put on notice that several of its proposed new nuclear plants have been put on hold by potential buyers. Apparent fallout from the Japan nuclear problems.

Apparent fallout from the Japan nuclear problems. That was to be expected. The phones at the fitters' hall is ringing off of the hook with members wondering what the status of nuke work is going to be. Nuke construction just went to the back burner for a few years. Refits will pick up.

We are going to get one of those rent houses, as soon as our primary home is paid for. Still in countdown mode on that. Maybe a few 10% and higher dividend stocks would help us balance out the low yield CD's?
