My husband and I are still getting used to being on our own away from his mooching family. (Long unhappy story here.) They would eat bread like nobody's business, the kids would eat 2 slices of bread each as a snack...etc.
Because of this we have ended up with 3 extra loaves of bread, which we will not be able to finish before they go bad if we use them the way we normally would.
I'm looking for recipes to go with them--and please no exotic spices involved! I was looking up what to do with it online and kept getting results that needed things like Gruyere cheese or amaretto cream, or a dozen other spices we would use ONCE and then never use again. We also do not eat croutons.
So, links? Ideas?

Yeah, unfortunately our freezer is...non-functional. I should have added that in to clarify.

Go to the zoo and feed the ducks and fish. Take it to work and freeze it or just let it disappear.

I actually did not know that. Used to throw out stale pieces for them all the time.

Unfortunately, yes.. I'm sure.. google and you'll see.. there was one site that did mention that IF it was multi-grain and you added some other stuff to make it more nutritious...but mostly, it's just really not good for them at all.

Yeah, unfortunately our freezer is...non-functional. I should have added that in to clarify. Perhaps there are bigger issues here than 'extra bread'

I saw a recipe that was french toast, but with cheese. It looked really good. It would probably be better with some artisan bread - but you could try it. It could be a vegetarian dinner. I would also make bread crumbs and keep them in the fridge. (And then I would make real Mac & Cheese with a baked crumb topping.) My mom would roll them out really thin and then put cream cheese and asparagus on bread, roll it up, glaze it with butter and bake it. I loved those. If you put some smoked salmon in there - could be a perfectly balanced meal. Protein, vege, starch. You could make a strata. Some of those recipes have some fancy ingredients, but just sub them out to whatever you like. If you like stuffing (called dressing when it isn't stuffed into something) you can make stuffing and buy a small turkey breast. My sister used to make a stuffing that had sausage in it, and serve that and a vege for dinner. She said it was quick, easy and used up all her stale bread, so economical. I like the bread salad that places like Panera has - but that is probably because they use really good bread. This sounds weirder than hell - but who knows - it might be the best thing ever: www.kitchendaily.com/recipe/pineapple-ham-bread-souffl%C3%A9

Well - re-reading my post - I have a cheese addiction. Only one of those things didn't involve cheese.

Do the same things with those leftover bottom of the bag chips and other snacks. I don't recall who the poster was that told me that, but right now I have 4 bags of bottom of the bag that DH won't eat. So it becomes crumbs for other food items.

Make a breakfast casserole. There is a type of recipe that involves placing bread slices on the bottom of the casserole dish. Then pour egg & cheese mixture over the top and bake.
Make bread crumbs in the blender and place on top of tuna casserole.

I'm alittle late to the game... but you could make stuffing balls! These are great with soup or as a side with chicken or pork. Google a recipe*. Not the 'healthiest' of options but it is something tasty to do with lots of white bread.
You can also just break up the bread and toss it out in your yard in small amounts - the birds and squirrels become instant cat, dog, and little kid entertainment. You don't want to leave a pile of 'food' outside - it will attract unwanted visitors -like rats, possums, raccoons. But a bit a time makes the birds and squirrels happy. (ok, squirrels can be considered a nuisuance... )
* should use things like onion, celery, canned broth, eggs, and poultry seasoning, maybe fresh or dried parsley.
