Sunday they gunned down and killed two people attending a memorial for someone that had just been been shot and killed.
And now police are saying they are using automatic rifles in some of the attacks.

Well, it's a sad situation but until the people involved are willing to stop raising thugs and baby mommas, there's nothing to be done. I read about this and think that there's less criminals having a chance to ruin other people's lives.

On the Friday of the Memorial day weekend Chicago police went out and rounded up as many gang bangers as possible on current court orders, etc, (why they do not do this all the time I am at a loss for) to curb the annual killing totals. It worked to an extent. This last weekend they did not do that, and it was a warm weekend, and the result, instead of the hood getting all shot up, even the beaches and the River walk are not safe from the shootings.

I wonder why Chicago is always held up as the "example" for murder gun violence - it wasn't even in the top 30 of two lists that I googled.
The St. Louis/East St. Louis area seems to be the worst - I don't recall reading or seeing much on the national news about the violence there.

For perspective, approximately 1/3 of the nation lives in the largest 63 counties (2%) in the US per Wikipedia (using 2014 population data).
I would wager most murders are either a crime of passion or a crime of opportunity. In either case, it seems relatively obvious that would be more likely to happen in a county where people are piled on top of each other.

I live in northwest Indiana and our local news outlets on cable are either Chicago news stations or one lonely Southbend station as well as the Chicago Tribune. Tennesseer has pointed out his area, Chattanooga Tennessee has a higher murder rate. It has been pointed out that Chicago, even in Illinois is not the number one murder ratio in the state. It is just that Chicago's numbers are large due to the size of the city. I started this thread to point out we were losing as many black citizens here than we were losing soldiers in Iraq, and no one cared, or do enough to stop it, Hence "Chiraq" in the title.

Value Buy - I didn't mean to suggest that you were singling out Chicago. I was actually thinking of the media focus. Other than stories about mass shootings and police involved shootings that make the national news, it seems that Chicago's murders get more national news attention than those of any other U.S. city.

The Chicago shot tracking map has been down lately. I imagine it broke down with the overworking updates......so let's talk about Baltimore. They just passed the 200 mark of killed in the streets, half of Chicago's number with a really small number of citizens compared to Chiraq.

Good news for Chicago this year. Shootings down 746 victims from last year to only 3,500 President Trump is sending some Federal Prosecutors to Chicago to help speed up some court cases that seem to languish leaving shooters out to repeat the shootings. Only 3,500 wounded so far......but check out the interactive map in the link. The shootings are starting to be come common all over the city. www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-met-chicago-shootings-violence-20171220-story.html

Meanwhile in Merrillville Indiana on Sunday, two teenagers shot and killed at an apartment project in Merrillville. Sixteen and eighteen year olds from nearby Gary Indiana gunned down in their car, at 3 am and does not make the Chicago news.......because 74 shot is the story of the day.....

And these are the words of a Chicago long time resident.... "The roots of Chicago's violence (which is confined for the most part to the poorest most ethnically segregated communities on the south and west sides) go back more than a hundred years. The way you curb it is to provide real help to these communities, and not in the form of a larger on-edge, ready-to-shoot-at-the-drop-of-a-hat police presence. It will take a broad community outreach and effort that includes economic redevelopment that will provide well-paying jobs in these communities. It will take reforms in housing and strict enforcement on slumlords to clean up their buildings to make them livable. It will require building more schools and funding and maintaining them adequately, NOT closing them or allowing the ones that remain to fall to ruin. It will take training the officers who police these neighborhoods to deal effectively with the problems that plague these neighborhoods (which extend beyond gang problems). It will take a herculean effort to better integrate the city, which is currently one of the most segregated in the nation. You don't turn a century + old raft of problems around in a month or a year. If we start now, it will still take decades. Which is why we should start now. We should have started decades ago." And then there is this.... Top 10 Most Dangerous Cities In America 2018 Rank Most Dangerous Cities In America 1 St. Louis 2 Detroit 3 Birmingham. Ala 4 Memphis 5 Milwaukee 6 Rockford. Ill 7 Baltimore 8 Little Rock. Ark 9 Oakland. California 10 Kansas City www.bbcnewshub.com/top-10-most-dangerous-cities-in-america-2018/

Have not posted on this thread lately. The fact is the last few weekends in Chicago have been pretty grim, as to the number of shootings. The good news is they do not shoot well, and there seems to be fewer deaths too. The weather does not seem to be the reason for the last few weeks uptick as the weather has been below normal, and not hot and humid. www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-crime-in-chicago-20171114-storygallery.html

I don't get it, where's the resultant utopia ?

Chicago is so close to Indiana that East Chicago is in Indiana.

East Gary Indiana went as far as to change their city's name to Lake Station to get away from the stigma of being connected via name recognition to Gary Indiana decades ago. I am not quite sure of the history behind naming East Chicago, East Chicago, but I imagine it had to do with the individual Chicago industrialists who developed the manufacturing and refinery industries in northwest Indiana in the early 1900's. I assume you are referencing gangbangers coming to Indiana to buy their guns and take them back to the city of Chicago in violation of Chicago's gun laws......

They don't care about the laws. Gun control laws are only followed by the law abiding. The very same people who don't need their guns controlled. They end up being the victims.

The same could not be said about murder. Murder is an action of a person, guns are inanimate objects.

Yes. And and you are for a national gun registry too right? That would potentially be useful in fighting gun violence

And and you are for a national gun registry too right? That would potentially be useful in fighting gun violence Nope, gun ownership is a constitutional right. Registries include the owner, making every law abiding gun owner a de facto criminal since your statement includes. (bolded) I don't believe in freedoms being legislated away for a "potential" situation. That would be like eliminating anything with risk (which includes just about everything) because of "potential". Slippery slope, that one.
