Many of you might not know that Spike Lee is filming an inner city movie in Chicago this summer dealing with all the black on black killings going on in the big cities.
He has tentatively named the movie "Chiraq" and has taken a lot of grief from some Alderman feeling he is giving Chicago a black eye in public relations.
Well this week since Monday, thirteen people have been shot, two killed, so Spike may be into something.
And today is....Tuesday.

I will try to update this thread every Monday or Tuesday listing the weekend carnage that goes on every week in the "city with big shoulders, and a lot of handguns".
Surprisingly, the Black Lives matter campaign has been a work in progress in Chicago. A few demonstrations last year, a few really small ones this summer, even though Chicago police have many officer involved shootings (with black corpses) every week.

Every Monday all the local televisions outlets usually show the crying mothers and grandmothers saying when is it going to stop, but there are few demonstrations on this matter, but never well attended by the immediate neighborhood residents.

Like sarcasticgirl I live in/near Chicago. I cringe daily when the newsreports list the count/day. This has been a TERRIBLE year. Another point is that, while the counts predominantly point to black on black shootings they have moved pushing into mixed & white areas and onto our expressways.

Yes, the early morning rush hour shootings seem a little strange.
Nearby Gary Indiana has once again pushed the shootings to big numbers also, but so not match the gang war numbers from the 1990's.

Chicago makes Baltimore look peaceful and they have their own problems. DC is seeing an uptick in violence as well. When kids are involved that makes me sad.

Four men were injured in separate shootings Thursday on the West and South sides, police said.


About 2:20 p.m., a 25-year-old man was shot on the 4900 block of West Crystal Street in the Austin neighborhood, police said.

The man suffered a gunshot wound to his chest, police said, and managed to get himself to Norwegian-American Hospital. His condition was not immediately available, and police said he is a known gang member.

Makes you wonder what would be happening now if Chicago was going to be hosting the 2016 Olympics. I watched a Vice special on how the Brazil gov is clearing out their ghettos by the Olympic venues.

We had a shooting around 8 years ago. But our population is only 11k. So that would be 1 per 88k. You've got 2.719m so the equivalent would be 31. But we just got our 5th sex offender. So it's not all rosy in small towns either

I accidently saw this movie. I don't agree with the description of "glamorizing" anything. It showed a life completely different than mine and did not make it look appealing at all. It was dangerous, unhappy and most people made really poor choices for themselves. Ice Cube and Dr. Dre were involved in production so they came out looking very moralistic, but not really glamorous.

As much as I complain about Chicago's murder rate, I have to say, they are not even in the top ten most dangerous cities.

The statistics are based on cities of 200,000 or more so little cities or towns do not skew the data.
Number ten on the list-Indianapolis. Since I live in northwest Indiana, I do not get the local Indy news. I knew they had the usual drug/gang murders, but am surprised they are in the top ten nationwide.

We have been in southwest Florida several times, and Fort Myers, Lehigh Acres and Cape Coral areas were always trading nights on the local news for shooting deaths. For the amount of senior citizens there, the local younger populations sure skew the data there.
I do not think any of them top 200,000 so they are not in the data, but Fort Myers is sort of in a bloodbath right now.

Chicago may not be so bad after all.
