Has anyone brought a gas line into the kitchen for a gas stove? Any idea of costs? We have a gas line at least to the family room, which is at the other end of the room from the kitchen, so know that we have reasonably near access. << kittensaver raises hand >>
I did this about a dozen years ago. We pulled the gas line from the laundry closet over to the kitchen - - about 13-14 feet?
12 years ago it was just under $300. A plumber did it, and then the appliance installation folks did the rest of the installation.

This is good to know. I do NOT want those freaking burner coils and TD does NOT want a flat top. If the cost to run a gas line (currently, it's to the fireplace at the other end of the room, so no more than 30') is only a couple hundred $$, I'll win. Otherwise, I might wind up with another stupid electric coil stove. Another gas stove question.....do you need a special vent for a gas stove? Not a special one. You will need the same kind of venting as for any stove. It is more a function of what you're cooking rather than the fuel used by the appliance.
I have a gas combo stove/oven. It sits inserted/pushed into a cut-out in my cook island and I don't have an overhead vent. Because of this, I had to buy a stove with a built-in downdraft vent. But that's only because I didn't have any other kind of venting system.

I'd recommend putting a hood over a gas stove as the Captain mentioned. Im working with all sorts of heating devices- more like fixing the "after" problems. People fail to understand that gas produces water vapors while burning that can be harmful to your home and you. If you have your stove on an exterior wall then best would be to put a hood with a vent thru to the outside with just a flap on the end like for the dryer. And Oh My God! Where are you people living? Truthfully? A somewhat nicer area in the Chicago NW suburbs. I have to wonder if the quotes aren't somehow priced to match the area. Those prices that you throw arround for kitchen remodels are like astronomical! You're telling me!!! Although I know someone who did a $100K remodel. But that was is Barrington (very swanky BTW) for cripessakes! This was in an executive home. Are your kitchens that big? It will be bigger with an island once we're done. We're moving a load bearing wall to do this. Yea - that's about $5-6K of my quote.Do you go all out on the latest things? Honestly - no. I'm more into quality. I want solid construction (not necessarily solid wood mind you - engineered lumber can in some cases be stronger. That being said one quote for cabinets alone came in at $24K. That's insane. The rest of the furniture in my house isn't even worth that!To me is just mind boggling. Why do you think I'm getting other quotes?Of course we did our kitchen like 12-13 years ago so I might be out of touch but man! I think I'm gonna raise my prices; it appears that I'm too cheap! Do you do work in the Chicago burbs? Why do you think I'm freaking out on my own thread?

Brands to avoid were Electrolux, Jenn-Air and KitchenAid.
When we were looking yesterday we found a Kitchen Aide oven/range we really liked. The one we found is $1700 and both Best Buy and Home Depot carry it at the same price.
Why are you saying to avoid the brand? Really need to know.
We are replacing Jenn Aire and have no problems with them.
We still have time for looking ............
Thanks ..........

It was in this month's Consumer Reports as brands to avoid as they need higher than normal repairs. Both smooth top or gas KitchenAid ranges were included.

Hmmm......... thank you for this information. I don't get Consumer Reports. Is there somewhere I can get the article and references for other brands/models?

As an option to stainless steel, you might look at the GE Café series in slate. It's very nice looking.
I'm not a fan of stainless, either. Nor granite.

I'm not a fan of stainless, either. Nor granite. It looks like the decision was made last night. We bought the stainless dishwasher. We read really good reviews on Bosch dishwashers, so that's what we got. Last night, Lowe's had a kitchen set up very similar to our's. Their granite was the same colors as our quartz, and they had a maple cabinet set up. Both of us really liked the look of the stainless over the white, so we went in that direction.

Kitchenaid - double oven, electric range - model # KFED500ESS
Our home is electric and now we have white appliances with BLACK countertops. Hate it, hate it, hate it. No gas in the area.
We are thinking SS will go with anything we choose in a countertop. We like the looks of this one and have read the reviews. All seem good and recent.
Any additional information would be appreciated. Thanks .......

There are no KitchenAid electric double ovens on the list that they recommend.
For electric, double ovens the list is... LG, GE, Samsung, Maytag, Frididaire x 2, LG.
The only KitchenAid that is on the list has the lowest score listed of 70. It is a gas stove, double oven.
ETA: you are replacing Jenn Airs that are a decade + years old. Back when they were purchased, they were probably of better quality than they are today. CR reviews those that are on the market now.
The one thing I know is that appliances purchased today are not going to have the same longevity of those purchased 20, or even 10 years ago.....which is really disheartening.

Hell, if I have to pay that much to remodel or build a kitchen I think I'm gonna start a fire in the back yard and I'll buy me some cast iron kettles! Guess I'm gonna eat a lot of porridge!

Got our estimate today .............. $37500 ......... and doesn't include the range, microwave, dishwasher. The cabinets will take 6-8 weeks to build. Demolition, rebuild, and installation will take about 3 weeks.
So I should have a new kitchen for Thanksgiving dinner ........... this will be my Christmas/birthday for quite a few years.
I'm looking forward to this .........
