wasn't the last theater shooting in Nashville too? I saw a headline about this earlier and thought it was just another story about the last shooting. ^that all makes me sad and pissed off, that mass shootings in public places have become so commonplace that they all blur together.

I believe the last one was in Louisiana. It is very disturbing that this type of thing seems to be happening every few weeks.

Is it time to resurrect the drive in theater where one only attends inside one's armored Humvee with the bullet proof glass?

We are all tired of hearing about it. People are tired of losing their lives and their loved ones to these crazy mentally ill people with guns.
Why does our government keep letting it happen and do nothing to stop it? This has gone beyond all common sense. I have nothing against people owning guns, but we have to do something about mentally ill and their ability to access all the weaponry they want. Too many sick people with no concept of reality and right vs. wrong.
I joked to my husband the other night that we might send our son to work in Europe. He might be safer there. Isn't gun violence over there very minimal?

Interestingly enough... the only people he shot at was the police. I saw this too. A guy takes a hatchet and a gun to a movie theater and ends up only slightly injuring a few people? How do you only slightly hurt someone with a hatchet - leave it on the floor and let the guy trip over it and bang up a knee? Thank God he was completely incompetent. Wish every one of them was.

He did not have a gun per se. It was a pellet gun. Somehow, I think he had a death wish, "death by cop". How do you swing an ax, and the person only gets a bruise out of it?
Still a damn scary situation. We went to the theater yesterday. One pm in the afternoon. Believe it or not, we were the only two people in the theater. I did not mention it to the missus, but my first thought was look for the exit(s) and pay attention to anyone walking in.
Did not mention it to her til going home. She said she made the same mental note after sitting down in the seat. That is not how we want to spend our afternoon out.

There seems to be a Southern trend - the guy in Charleston who shot up the church goers, the guy in Chattanooga who shot up the military people, the guy in LA who shot up the movie goers, and now this guy in Nashville who attempted to shoot up people at a movie theater. There was also a big ring of anti-government people in NC that got busted recently. Some guys became convinced operation Jade Helm was just the beginning of the Federal take over of the states, and they collected a giant pile of guns, explosive devices, etc. Ironically, they got busted by their gun dealer, who turned government informer. www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2015/08/05/how-federal-agents-foiled-a-murderous-jade-helm-15-retaliation-plot/Are these things only happening in the South, or are they happening in other places but not reported as widely? Does the South have more than their share of crazy people, or is it the blazing heat and humidity that's making us act insane? As a Southerner myself, I'm beginning to wonder. Everyone just needs to sit the hell down and have a nice cold iced tea, calm themselves down a bit.

Maybe it is all the sweet tea ? Must bring this up in the new conspiracy thread... Well, if you wanted to poison the most Southerners possible, adding something to the tea bags would be the way to go. Sounds like an idea for a Stephen King novel.....

There were a couple of stupid fluffy summer movies I wanted see and DH loves going to a theater but I am NOT feeling the love at this point. Many friends tell me I am giving in to "them" whoever they may be, but I am honestly scared out of all internally-contained organic matter and don't see how I can enjoy spending $$ to sit in a movie no matter how comfy the lounge seats. I want to relax, folks, not have to be on high alert every moment. And, since open carry of long weapons is already legal here and open carry of handguns will be after Jan. 1, I don't think my enjoyment level will increase anytime soon. Sooner or later, everything comes to NetFlix or U-Verse or something I can enjoy in the privacy and safety of my home.

I don't like going to the movies. It is really expensive, just for tickets - forget about snacks, it's often too cold, and usually packed with rude people or 50 crying babies and toddlers in the late night R movie showing. I think iTunes is outrageous for charging 5.99 for rentals, but it is still a lot less than even one person going to the movie theater. In YM fashion I tend to mostly rent the 99 cent movies after checking Netflix or Hulu to see if I can get them at no cost.
I saw on the news that people are pushing for security at movie theaters. Seriously? If I didn't want to go before I am certainly not going if I have to be patted down and searched beforehand. And this will just push the incidents to a different venue. It won't stop them.
