Okay, it's early I know, but I am looking for ideas. DF and I went to Scotland over Christmas last year and despite delays coming and going (two days Orlando, two days London) and the lost luggage (mine arrived at the house a week after we got back), it was a great time.
We have the girls this year and I'm thiking about London, DF to my and his surprise really liked London), but I'm not sure about the expense.
Any ideas from anyone else?

Never even thought of that, thanks! I'll look into it.

Germany is fantastic at Christmas. They have all of these great Christmas markets. If you don't want to spend the entire vacation in Germany then consider a cheap Ryan Air flight from London to Germany for a few nights to experience the Christmas markets.
My other tip is to go somewhere that they dont celebrate Christmas. Two years ago DH and I went to Italy and there was about a day and a half where we just lounged around the hotel because all the museums and other places were closed for the holidays. So for Christmas this year we are looking into going to Asia.

If you want to stay in the US, Yosemite is awsome in the winter.

Bobosensi - I have heard that Germany is gorgeous at Christmastime! There is supposed to be a great Christmas market in Edinburgh but missing two days being stuck in Orlando kept us from seeing it in fullswing.
Mad Dawg - Yosemite is a great idea! I've never been there. I'll check it out. Thanks all!

I still remember the combination to the roads which are closed to the public during the winter.

What about southern Germany/Austria? Vienna is amazing, and while I was there during summer, everyone says that it's even more beautiful in the winter and has the best Christmas market in Europe. Also, there is a Sound of Music tour in Salzburg that is supposed to be fun- I haven't done it yet, but a lot of my friends have and loved it!

I have been to the Bavarian Alps. They in no way compare to Yosemite.
